A Fun Personality Quiz that Reveals Your Fears

 By: Cindy Smith

Photo: funquizzes.org.uk

You may have taken a personality survey before. You might have coaxed your husband into taking a "are we compatible survey", even though you’ve been married for more than ten years! Or you’ve prodded your boyfriend into taking: "are you marriage material" to try and get him to commit. We’ve filled out surveys in magazines at the doctor’s office or seen them on Twitter or Face book pages. All these personality quizzes are designed to tell us what type of parent, thinker, worker, lover or sleeper we are.

However, you probably have not taken a personality survey that tells you what you’re afraid of before. Yes, a fun but amazingly accurate survey called Wanna Play that first reveals your personality type (Innovator, Achiever, Peacemaker or Puzzle Player) and then correlates what you’re afraid of (invisibility, failure, rejection or chaos).

Why is this important? Because our fears shape our lives. They keep us from reaching our potential and keep us stuck in the same old patterns of behavior that no longer serve us. Our relationship problems keep repeating themselves with the same scenarios but a different cast of characters. I have a history of working for ungrateful bosses – I know this.

Eventually, without realizing it, our unconscious fears lead us to play a childhood game called Hide and Seek, where we hide from something inside ourselves and seek answers outside ourselves. Remember that childhood game where we hid from someone … well now we are hiding from something, some feeling, some emotion, some thought. Basically something called FEAR.

When we play Hide and Seek, we begin to seek outside of ourselves what we think will make us happy internally. We race to acquire tangible things, such as more money, better cars, fancier toys, and bigger houses. The shininess of the new toys wears off and we soon realize that to achieve happiness, peace or whatever it is you are looking for more of, we have to change something within.

Yes, we still play childhood games, even though we thought we outgrew them. Combine this with the baggage we bring from childhood, and when life gets stressful, when our back is against the wall, fear rears its ugly head and can overtake our life.

Take heart! As an Achiever who fears failure, who seeks accomplishment at all times and at all costs, who often feels less than and wants to feel more than, I’m here to tell you there is a way out of this rut. This simple personality quiz can get you to have a new definition of fear – Face your fears, Embrace your fears, Ace your fears and Replace your fears -- and lead a life where you’re not half, you’re whole!

Take the first step by taking this personality survey. Our fears have no expiration date … uncover yours and put them in their rightful place – the rear view mirror.

Wanna Play?

How to Overcome Feeling Overwhelmed

 By: Larry Iverson

Photo: ehow.com

Overwhelm, why does it happen? What can you do about it? How can you break out of the cycle?

There are four reasons that overwhelm occurs. The first and primary reason is because of lack of knowledge or skill. There are times when you may want to do something and you might have some knowledge on how to do it, but you may not be totally clear on how to make it happen. You think about it, look at it, you study, you apply some of the things you know, but it seems like there's something missing. So you then begin to feel overwhelmed because of a lack of knowledge or a lack of skill.

The second reason is because you're trying something which is too big for you. For instance, I've written multiple books. When you first start thinking about writing a book, it's overwhelming, it's a daunting task. Let's say you want to write a book that's 100,000 words, that's about 300 pages long. The first thing you have to do is to think about how am I going to get through this? It's such a big project, all those chapters, all of those words, hundreds of paragraphs. How do I do that?

Once when author John Steinbeck was giving a lecture, someone asked him, "What is writing a novel like? How do you go about that process?" Steinbeck paused a moment and said, "Well, writing a novel is like painting a barn with a toothbrush."

He said, "When you first start out, it's absolutely overwhelming. You don't even know where to start, but you pick one little corner down low on one side of the building and you start painting. And, you get the first couple of inches done. Then, you paint the next little bit above it, and so on."

Steinbeck chuckled and said, "When you get done, the barn doesn't look too bad, but painting a barn with a toothbrush is a little bit daunting." So is writing a book. That's the second reason why overwhelm happens, because you're working on something which is so large, it seems too big to you.

The third reason that overwhelm occurs is because we don't have a plan. What's your plan? What are you going to do? What is the process you want to have happen? Where do you want to get to? Where are you starting? Where are you going to end? What's the process from here to there? What are you going to do to make that happen?

The plan is absolutely crucial. You got to have a vision. You got to know where you want to go. Do you want more success in your life? Do you want to have better relationships? Do you want to be happier? Do you want to make more money? You've got to have a plan. If you don't have a plan, you will waste a significant amount of time wandering around in unproductive territory.

So overwhelm can occur because you don't have something planned out. Inside of your plan, point number four is you got to break it down into steps, and then take action. It's like writing the book.

When you first start writing a book you make decisions, "Okay, I want to address these 20 topics. These will be my 20 chapters." Then you take chapter one, "I'm going to address this topic here, and I'm going to talk about these 10 things in chapter one." Those would be your 10 subchapter headings. Let's say that each subchapter heading will take about a page. And on each page you're going to have five paragraphs under each subchapter heading. And each paragraph will be three to four sentences long.

So you have 10 subheadings inside of each chapter, so you begin by taking the first one. Under that subhead, you decide what the first paragraph of the five paragraphs under this topic will be. Then, you write that one first paragraph. Hey, you're making progress! You've only got one paragraph out of hundreds you need to write, but you're making progress. You then say, "Okay, what am I going to talk about secondly, thirdly, fourthly?" and pretty soon, you have written one page!.

You break things into steps. No matter what the task is, whether you want to be better at a sport, you want to improve your golf game, your tennis game, you want to be a better swimmer, you want to learn something brand new. Whatever it is, you break it into steps. The biggest task, the most overwhelming task, when broken down into component steps can be tackled. You can do this.

You need to get control over your negative self-talk and focus more positively. Focus on the positive and detach from the negative stuff. Detach from that which overwhelms you. Detach from that which scares you. You just break it into pieces, focus on only one piece at a time, and then take action.

The reasons again why overwhelm happens is 1. because of lack of knowledge or skill, 2. because it's too big, 3. because you don't have a plan or you don't have a vision or goals, and 4. you haven't broken that plan down into its component steps, and then take action on one step.

When you begin to break through those, overwhelm will be in the past for you. If your brain tries to run off down a negative path, don't let it. Use your positive attitude and your positive focus to chunk things down into smaller steps so you can achieve what you want.

Do you want a better lifestyle? Do you want to feel happier? Do you want to have more positive and powerful relationships? They all can be yours. Take steps daily to move you closer and closer to the life you want. You can have whatever you desire. Make today and everyday a great day!

The Best of Success to You.

How to Pick Yourself Up After a Set-Back

 By: Roseanna Leaton

Photo:  choosingraw.com

How do you react when something unexpected happens and puts a spanner in the works? Do you turn tail and retreat into a corner to lick your wounds, or do you straighten your back, clench your fists, grit your teeth and have another go at it?

Some people thrive upon challenges whilst others live in fear of them. We each have our own individual temperament and general attitude towards things which happen in life, and this is dependent upon our genes and our upbringing. The two interact to make each of us very unique. Yes, you can identify general similarities and between individuals and we each fall within certain "bands" of characteristics, but we do all have our own unique "twist".

Just because you are born with a certain general characteristic does not mean that you cannot temper, change or even overcome it. We all have the ability to shape our own perceptions, expectations and our ultimate reality. This is an important fact to know, because otherwise you might just think "this is how I am" and flee into your corner smarting from your wounds and feel a failure for the rest of your life.

Even though you get driven back into that corner you always know that that is not your rightful place. You know you should be out there, don't you? Some people only realize this in a tiny way; others become angry because they are only too aware that this situation is just not right. Your emotions at this point are quite likely to be holding your back; they can create a fog which stops you from seeing more clearly and focusing in a more positive way.

When you reach a dead end time and again, your energy can become depleted because you begin to doubt that you will ever reach your goals. With each successive set-back you lose a little more of your self-belief; you lose confidence. It becomes natural to retreat and takes longer and longer to harness the energy and positive expectation to motivate yourself to try again.

In this sort of situation, you need to clear the negative vibes from your mind and body; you need to clear that fog which has taken hold of you, step back and replenish your positive energy stores, thereby enabling you to focus clearly and productively once again.

Hypnosis is a wonderful tool which allows you to do exactly this. With hypnosis you can provide yourself with a mental massage, a mind spa break, and replenish your flagging energy stores. You can fill yourself with enthusiasm and self-belief, easily building your self-confidence back up to where it should be. And you can do this safely at home simply by listening to a hypnosis mp3 download.

The Mom Anxiety Factor: How to Cope

 By: Rachelle Salinger

Photo: coping-with.com

In a world filled to the brim with information, so much has already been written and said about parenting. If you immerse yourself in the books, the interviews, the tips (and the unsolicited advice from your own mother), you still never truly understand parenting until you are right smack in the middle of it yourself.

As you probably know by now, one of the most common things that people say about parenting is that it is quite possibly the toughest job on earth. After all, it is a skill that’s not formally taught, and one in which instinct plays a large part. Nothing truly prepares you for it.

Being a first-time mom can be quite a ride. It is a thrilling new chapter in your life, but it can also be a major cause of anxiety and stress. Such feelings are a natural part of parenthood and you do need a certain amount of anxiety to be aware of your baby’s safety. But don’t let it rob you of the joys of being a mom. Every child is different, and we’re all in the same boat when it comes to figuring out the best way to parent in tough situations. Here’s how to deal with mom anxiety so you can spend more quality time enjoying each other.

Breathe in, breathe out. Anxiety can be an overpowering emotion. It is very important to have a sense of control over it, so that it doesn’t end up controlling you. When anxiety sets in, pathways to logical thought are temporally severed. When your body detects this, it puts you in a fight or flight mode. This may work well for the military, but if you’re a mom, it’s a different story.

Try this: when you find yourself in a stressful situation, try to remove yourself from it for a moment, then slowly breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Once your breathing slows down, your heart will calm down too. Your brain will register this and say "Okay, it’s not so bad. I’m going to be fine."

If you’re starting to have more serious problems, like difficulty sleeping, or panic attacks, call your doctor or a therapist trained in helping people with anxiety.

Don’t lose yourself. Parenting can take a toll. A lot of women dedicate themselves entirely to being a great mom, and often, when the weight of this challenge sets in, they end up staring at the mirror and wondering who it is they see in the reflection. They wonder if the person they used to be is still there underneath the "mom." While it is laudable to devote yourself so wholeheartedly to the family, it is important to remember that you’re a total person.

Being a mother is just one of the many roles that you are going to play. When the anxieties of parenting weigh in, focus on the core qualities that make you who you are, and channel that strength. Or strive to find a fun-loving free spirit so you can easily cope with stressful situations. Being a mom is among the best things you will ever do in life, but don’t forget that there’s more to you, too.

Try this: pamper yourself. Go ahead, it’s okay. Moms are allowed to take breaks! Dress up in a lovely dress, put on some sophisticated hair accessories (they are all the rage in fashion trends now), spritz on your favorite perfume. Take care of yourself by eating well, getting regular exercise and trying to get a good night’s sleep. In the end, when you are at your best inside and out, it won’t only benefit you, but your family too.

Two heads are better than one. Remember "for better or for worse"? Here’s the perfect time to remind your spouse about it. While women are better equipped instinctively, it is very important to involve your husband in parenting. You need his support as as much as he needs yours in this adventure. Potentially stressful situations also become more bearable when you know that there is someone who has your back, ready to help you face your anxieties.

Try this: for starters, if the two of you are parents-to-be, look for baby gifts together, plan out how the nursery will look, and buy baby gear together. By involving him in what may seem to be trivial activities like these, it actually helps him ease into the "parent" role and reminds him once again that parenting is a team effort.

If it’s a baby girl, do a team tag. Pick adorable hair clips for her together. As baby hair can be wispy and fine, choose clips that are non-slip so they stay in her hair. Try them on yourself, too, so you know if they are too tight or they pull at the hair. A baby’s scalp is very sensitive, so even the smallest accessories like hair clips need to be soft, gentle and safe.

Don’t be too hard on yourself. There is no magic formula for success. As we said earlier, children are different. One parenting style may work well with one child, and be less effective with another. Parenting is a skill that you learn on-the-job. You will make mistakes; but the good news is that you will learn from them and get better over time. Don’t let anxieties and difficulties get in the way of this wonderful journey. Just make sure your baby is well taken care of and loved, so that she grows up into a happy and healthy tot, and eventually, into a unique woman just like her mom.

Fear of Goal Setting, Why Set Goals?

 By: Noelyne Jones

Photo:  sitepoint.com

Do you have a fear of goal setting? Have you set goals in the past that did not work out how you wanted? Are you disheartened as a result? Or maybe you are afraid to set goals in case you fail and you know how awful that feels so end up staying safe instead. Some people are afraid to set a goal in case they cannot handle the success so they put off setting the goal and keep putting it off. Do you procrastinate when it comes to goal setting?

Do you even think about it? Most people do not and that is OK so long as you are not bothered what turns up in your life and who you are, what you have and what you do. So I am in the yes goals are good for you school of thought.

First of all consider why you want to have a goal. What is your reason for wanting to be, do or have whatever it is? Your Reason Why. For example, you want to overcome your fears. Great! A really positive desire. However, why do you want to overcome your fears? Why is this important? What will it give you? When you know exactly why you have set the goal and if it is a compelling reason then you will take the action require to achieve it. For example, you want to earn more money because it will pay for th education of your children. You want to overcome your fears so that you can get a better job or start your own business and have the lifestyle you deserve.

You need to know where you want to end up so that you will know when you have got there. If you are not bothered about where you end up and when then you do not need to set a goal. It is about being able to measure how well you are doing and if you are not moving forward fast enough then you can decide what else you can do. One of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey is Begin with the end in mind. What is it that you want to achieve? If you want to be more confident, think about what this means. What will you look like? What will you be saying? How will you feel? What will you do differently when you are confident? Once you are clear about what the end goal means then you can start to work out what steps you need to take to get there.

In the business world it is about having a Vision or mission statement and breaking it down into objectives that will get the organisation to where the leaders want it to be. All objectives need to be linked to the higher purpose and each individual needs to work on tasks that will achieve their objectives and ultimately the company goals.

In a survey of University graduates it was found that 3% had accumulated more personal financial wealth, over a 20 year period, than the other 97% of the class combined. The only difference was that the 3% had written goals.

Even if you know that setting a goal is a good thing to do that will not stop you from worrying about how you will achieve it. Those fears about how you are going to get to where you want to be take over and you end up doing nothing except worry. Your own thoughts limit your success. You need to get into the habit of forgetting about the how, establish what you want to achieve and then trust that everything else will fall into place.

I am interested to know your experiences of goal setting so do let me know,

Enjoy the process of life,

The Importance of Making Clear Decisions

 By: Tomislav Tomic

Photo: crcresearch.org

The Universe in which we live in is a field of endless possibilities. Whatever you imagine, it can really exist. The only limitation there is, is the one you have created in your mind.

This is precisely the reason why we can only experience in our reality that which can be expressed through us. Our dominant convictions form channels through which universal energy can flow, helping us to experience a manifestation of universal energy that flows through us in accordance with our convictions.

"Whatever comes in, comes out as well". The reality which you experience is just a mirror reflection of what is in you and through which the universal energy flows. Just change what is inside you, and you will be experiencing a different reality.

That is precisely the reason why it is crucial to make a clear decision about the reality you wish to experience. Only when you have made a clear decision about the reality which you want to experience will you be influencing the energies around you in a way for them to start forming according to your decision.

Making a clear decision about the reality you wish to have is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. Making a clear decision is the most wonderful gift you can give yourself. The clearer the decision, the more aligned with your decision will the reality you experience be.

Making a clear decision means completely closing your mind to all other options except the one you have decided to accept. Once you have made the clear decision in your mind, nothing else exists other than that which you have decided for. Making a clear decision means agreeing to deal only with those thoughts whose contents are in line with your decision.

However, making a clear decision about the reality you wish to experience is no easy process. It is very serious business, and if you don't take it seriously like you would any important project, you can just forget the whole thing.

As soon as you have made a clear decision, you will begin to search for arguments around you that support the decision you have made, and you will naturally be inclined toward manifesting that which you have decided to experience. With enough perseverance, your decision must become the reality which you are experiencing.

Make a clear decision about the reality you want to experience and take full responsibility for such a big step. Do not just rely on divine provision, waiting for a "heavenly sign" to start doing things. You need to understand that divine provision as most people understand it does not exist. God/Originator/Higher Self/Creator wishes to help you and be at your disposal at all times, but you must understand that he will not do your part for you.

Imagine a situation where a parent does his child's homework instead of his child. That would be harmful, wouldn't it? Any responsible parent realizes full well that they need to let the child do their own homework, and that they are only to help the child if they see that the child has done their best in their efforts to do the homework.

Many things in our lives happen along the lines of the same principle. A clear decision is a presupposition for any kind of progress in any area. Individuals who are determined will advance in all areas of their interest, whereas those who are undetermined stagnate more and more and constantly complain about how hard and unjust life is.

So make a clear decision about your life as you want it to be, and then stick with it!

How to Relax After Work

 By: Neil Becker

Photo: qwickstep.com

It can be a challenge to wind down from a hard day at work. Without realizing it you can be rushing around your home as if you are still at the office and every task has to be done yesterday. You need to notice when this is happening and take some steps to relax.

First make sure that you change out of your work clothes when you get home, maybe even have a shower. When you get dressed for work in the morning you also put yourself in the working frame of mind, changing into more comfortable clothing will help you change your frame of mind.

Put on some relaxing music. Studies have shown that our heart rates match the music that we are listening to. Choosing relaxing music to listen to will slow down your heart rate after only a few minutes.

Breathe in a more relaxed manner. Make sure you are breathing with your diaphragm so that your stomach moves in and out as you are breathing. If you can, sit or lie down somewhere and take a deep breath in. Hold it for 3 seconds, then breathe out for 3 to 6 seconds. This will slow down your rate of breathing.

Do stretches, release tension from your body by stretching all the muscles in your body, especially in your neck, back and shoulders where we keep a lot of tension. If you can, get someone to massage you in order to release all the stress. Light a candle or some incense. Activating senses that you haven't used throughout the day will interrupt your thought patterns and get you thinking about other things besides work.

Do some light exercise such as yoga, pilates or other body weight exercises. You'll release stress and tire yourself out putting your body in it's automatic relaxation mode.

Slow down your thinking. You might not realize it but your mind will be racing after a hard days work. Sit or lie down somewhere quiet and repeat a short mantra to yourself, maybe something like 'I am relaxing'. Say it to yourself every few second in a calm and relaxed voice.

Acute Stress: 4 Steps To Ease Away The Effect

 By: Edward Laing

Photo: getrichslowly.org

What is Acute Stress?

Acute stress is a term that was first used by an American physiologist, Walter Cannon in the 1920ís. It is defined as a rapid but short response to immediate threats, real or imagined, in the environment by a person, which produces physiologic, psychological and/or emotional strain in the mind and body.

Events such as seeing a car accident, getting one’s self into a fight or argument or being rejected by someone you like produces stress responses to a lot of people. Even seemingly mundane activities like being forced by your teacher or your client to write an essay with a nearing deadline while looking at a blank sheet of paper may produce acute stress.

What Happens during Episodes of Acute Stress?

What happens during acute stress is that as soon as the brain recognizes the event or the people around it as stressors it responds by activating certain systems in the body such as the sympathetic nervous system, which controls involuntary activities such as breathing and the beating of the heart. The body then releases certain hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline secreted primarily by the medulla portion of our adrenal glands.

These hormones increase our heart rate, rate and depth of breathing, dilates airways, narrow down our visual field, and decrease blood flow from the digestive tract, re-directing it to our skeletal muscles in preparation for the fight or flight response among all others. Over time, these responses may resolve when there is no longer a threat to the body.

Responses to Acute Stress

Acute stress responses cannot be avoided because events happening in the environment cannot be predicted. However, there are ways to ease the effects of acute stress. There are so many things a person can do when he or she suddenly feels so overwhelmed but we narrow it down into four steps:

1. Take a walk. Exercise is a great way of relieving stress. Taking a walk, for example, releases chemicals in the brain known as endorphins, which provides you with a positive mood. Plus you have the added benefit of walking away from the stressor and have an ample amount of time to think of solutions to the problem.

2. Take deep breaths. To do deep breathing just deeply but slowly breathe in air through your nose as if you’re filling up a lot of air into your lungs. Hold your breath for a good two to five seconds then exhale slowly but steadily through your pursed lips. Repeat the steps a couple of times until you feel relaxed.

3. Take mental relaxations. When it is possible to take short breaks, use those valuable minutes to take a rest and just flood your mind with positive thoughts and images.

4. Engage in a healthy lifestyle. A healthy mind and body can cope up more with stressful situations that may not be predicted. Always eat well-balanced, healthy meals, exercise regularly, and give yourself a good eight hours of sleep.

Stress: An Important Part of Life

When people think of stress, they often perceive it as something negative but it’s not just all that. People should also recognize that stress is an important part of life and therefore cannot be totally avoided. Stress is the reason why we are able to cope up with our studies, with work, responsibilities at home and all kinds of day to day activities. Always remember to follow and maintain healthy habits and you should be good to go.

Pzizz is a powerful new kind of insomnia treatment that’s perfect for you if you have the kind of sleep problems where you can’t switch off when in bed. It will help to quiet your mind, and gently ease you into restful sleep.

Depression Indications and Treatment

  by: Nancy Miller

Photo: anti-depression-medication.com

Victims of depression talk about it as "a black curtain of despair taking over their lives". They could not be more apt. In fact, scores of individuals diagnosed with depression have perpetual periods of lethargy, when they feel as if they have no energy to tackle activities or they cannot focus. Other people may experience feelings of irritation although there appears to be no reason for feeling so.

The results of depression differ from person to person. Consequently, sometimes it's difficult to identify. Nevertheless, if you have been feeling "low" for longer than two weeks, and these emotions are starting to interfere with your life, it's time for you to go to see a health professional who specializes in mood problems to establish if you've what they call "clinical depression".

How to recognize the Signs of Depression

It has been noticed that people who've been through depression are likely to undergo a further episode at some point. It is possible that you have one episode today and the following few weeks, and then you experience some of the problems again before the next full-on episode. If you learn to recognize these early triggers or symptoms, then you might be able to keep the depression from getting worse.

Receiving Support From Your Health Care Provider

Working with your health care provider can help you learn to manage depression. There are a number of medicines used to treat the mood disorder and you might have to try a few alternative ones to find out which one is most effective for you. Additionally, your doctor may also recommend a counselor for you or recommend that you make a few life-style improvements.

How Depression is Treated With Drugs

There are numerous different kinds of medicinal drugs used to treat depression and they are known as a group as antidepressants. These drugs have been acknowledged to work for lots of people in several different ways. That's the reason it's vital that you check with the doctor when deciding on which therapy is best for you.

However, whatever medicine you chose in the end, the first move towards getting better and remaining better is taking your prescription exactly as prescribed by the medical professionals. It may also assist you if you keep in mind the following treatment tips:

-- It takes a while for antidepressants to work, so do not be impatient. Some anti-depressants can start to cause you to feel better in just a couple of weeks. Although, the whole antidepressant effect of the medication may not be felt until the passing of a number of weeks.

-- Even if you feel better, carry on taking the anti-depressant for the length of time your physician tells you to. The physician may suggest that you continue using the antidepressant in order to help decrease your chances of becoming depressed again.

-- There are a few persons who only grow to be depressed one time. However there are others who have been depressed before or have several risk factors, in which case, they may need longer term care with drugs.

What are the ingredients of a positive attitude?

 by articles@ockertpretorius.com

Photo: patrickdriessen.blogspot.com

A Positive attitude is a huge subject that I believe one cannot get enough of. I
am doing a series of articles on this fascinating subject with added examples
and practical application techniques that can be very useful.

What are the ingredients / traits of a positive attitude person?

Hope - expecting good things to happen
Have you ever told or been told anyone "you are hopeless?" This is probably one of the worst things you can say of anyone. Without hope there is no reason to get out of bed is there? Without hope you a person do not bother attempting anything.

'This too shall pass' point of view
They know that life has its seasons of rain, sunshine, ups and downs and that
these come and go in cycles. Even when things are great a slow-down will occur
sometime. Knowing this allows one not to become euphoric one day and 'in the pits'
the next minute.

A thankful spirit
It is the ability to be thankful for all the blessings that are in and part of your life. Even the challenges because they make you grow stronger, like exercising,
to prepare you for the next blessing.

Seeing the potential in a problem
An example, the recession and you are short of cash. Can you see the potential? 30 billion people are looking for a way to make extra /save money per month online.

Creativity
To be able to look for the good in any situation one needs to be creative. You
need to have a uniquely different perspective to create or find potential solutions.

Goal oriented
Without a goal your optimism is like one of those firework spinning wheels;
plenty spark spinning in circles till it fizzles out. With a goal there is reason to find solutions and take action

Focused approach
Although you have goals you realise you cannot achieve them all at once. There
needs to be a focus on a few of them for best results. Diluted effort = diluted results.

Passionate / charged up / Enthusiasm / joy
The positive role models I have observed ALL had a passion, enthusiasm and joy about something. You better get excited about something in life. Preferably everything you do.

Looking at the truth and not the facts of a situation
The facts may be that you do not have any money or may be overweight. The truth is that in your mind you already see yourself driving your ideal car. You already see yourself in that little itsy bitsy bikini with all the guys looking at you on the beach. Do you see with your eyes or your mind?

It is a determined choice to be...
Being positive is a choice. Not once a day but many times every day until it
becomes a habit. This is probably where most people fall flat on their face
because they are waiting for or expecting a 'feeling' of positiveness. Positive people do not depend on others or situations to make them positive.

Action oriented
What I mean here is that you are not a wishful thinker. No matter how much you
believe you will achieve, that in itself will not get the job done. They know that just wanting something is not enough. Action is required.

Now the strangest thing is that most people assume positive think is feeling and that it starts the action. What if you are down? How do you get positive? You certainly will not think positive and then take action. I believe that to get the mood right you first need to act. The mood will be induced and the real 'get off my butt' action will follow the mood.

How do you do this?

Quite simple really. Just DO something that makes you feel great, preferably
something that requires physical movement. Here are a couple of Examples;

My best friend likes to do gardening to sort out her mindset. The physical
activity and the thinking time seem to work hand in hand.

Listening to your favourite piece of upbeat music will probably get you dancing.

Take any positive book and read 5 pages.

The great thing about becoming a positive person is that all these traits can be learned through consistent practise to form a habit. I will be sharing practical examples of how to do this in another article and on my blog

All you Ever Need for Success is Just to Do It!

by makepeace@enjoywealthandhappiness.com

Photo:  nytimes.com

My travel achievements have developed in me many principles of success that I've been wanting to put together.. Traveling the globe develops in you certain qualities and character traits needed for you to live such a challenging, adventurous and courageous lifestyle. I wanted to put together something as to how anyone could apply these same principles to other aspects of their life and achieve the same success. Success principles work no matter what avenue you use them for.

I sat down to think about it and put some thoughts together when I reached a blank.I was suprised when no list came to my mind, I thought this was going to be an easy task.. I reflected deeply on all the countries I visited, all the experiences I had, the people I formed friendships with and I said to myself "Okay Caroline, how did you do it? How did you have these life-changing adventures to 33 countries and live in 5? What was it about you that gave you the ability to do all that?"

"I just did it," was my response. '"I just did it!" There is no other answer. Sure there were many other qualities and character traits that gave me the ability to have the experiences but none of them really mattered unless I stepped onto that plane and did it. People always said to me how lucky and brave I was and wished they could do the same. But I never could quite understand where they were coming from because I knew they could do the same. Luck played no part in it, it was easy. I just did it. I just stepped on the plane and went and never looked back.

I knew what I wanted and I took ACTION!

Did I possess many strong success traits before I did it? Probably not or none that I was aware of. I was young and immature and didn't know anything about anything. All I knew was that I wanted to travel and so I just did it. I just hopped on that plane and went.

Did I have a lot of money? No I turned up in London with no home, no job and a couple of hundred bucks. That didn't matter, I knew what I wanted and so I just did it!

Did I have much experience? No! It was the first time I had lived away from the safety and security of my parents. My first experience living on my own was in the city of London, knowing no one, with no money. Experience didn't matter, I just did it.

I didn't have support either. I was on my own but I found a lot of support and made great friendships after I just did it!

Did I develop strong character traits along the way that helped me to continue my journeys and grow as a person? Absolutely! My travels shaped me as a strong, confident and amazing person. Would I be this person now if I never took the action toward my dream in the first place? No! Thank God, I just did it!

What is it in your life that you want to do or achieve? What is it that is holding you back? Lack of money or experience?-- irrelevant. Lack of friends or support?-- irrelevant. Wrong timing? No strengths, skills or talents? All irrelevant. You can find a million reasons why you can't do it but that's not going to get you what you want and shape you to be who you want to be. You've got nothing to lose but everything to gain. All that matters is what you want.

Nike said it the best- 'Just do it!' Those 3 simple words speak so much about the call to your action. Just take the first step. All the rest will come later. You're missing out on a wild, fun ride because of your inability to take action. Just do it and success will find you!

Just do it.....

Tips for Coping With Stress

by cheri

Photo: healthofmen.com

The first step in coping with stress is learning what stress is all about, what causes it and what the signs are. Although it is often discussed, few people know exactly what stress is. Some people consider stress to be a fact of life, while others believe that stress is only a once in a while occurrence. While stress can be viewed as a very general, non-specific cause of illness it is very real and can manifest itself in serious physiological and psychological ways. Stress can be triggered by just about any event in our lives no matter how insignificant. Acquiring skills for coping with stress will help you avoid the serious illness that can be caused by stress including depression, migraines, ulcers and hypertension.

There are a number of different skills that people use for coping with stress. No two people react in exactly the same way to the same situation. It is important to learn what coping skills work for you.

The only way to reduce the negative effects of stress is to limit your body’s exposure and reaction to stressful situations. Coping with stress may seem quite difficult but it really comes down to identifying and managing your stress triggers, managing your time and avoiding burnout. Some stressful situations are easier to identify and anticipate the body’s response such as the stress we feel when going to a job interview or a first date. Other types of stress cannot be as easily predicted such as the loss of a loved one, divorce or the loss of a job. As I mentioned before the skills for coping with stress will vary from person to person just as the body’s response to different situations will vary.

While coping with stress here are the key ideas to remember:

* know stress triggers

* improve time management skills

* reduce burnout
To help you identify your stress triggers, try keeping a log or record of all the stressful situations you encounter for a week. There’s no need to get really in depth, simply make note of the events and conditions that result in a negative emotional or physical response. Make sure to jot down the day and time and describe the situation briefly. Include the location and any other people present. This will assist you in identifying times, places, situations and people that may trigger your stress. Having this information down on paper will make it easier in developing the skills you need for coping with stress.

You’ll quickly find that effective time management skills go hand in hand with effective skills for coping with stress. Managing your time efficiently will give you clarity on your goals and priorities. The first step in improving your time management skills is to set realistic and concrete deadlines and requirements for yourself. Include time to review your goals and deadlines to track your progress. Prioritize your tasks and be systematic about completing them. When your goals and deadlines are met, reward yourself for your accomplishments. When you look back on your week focus on the list of tasks you have completed rather than the list of those that are yet to be done.

Time management certainly applies to coping with stress in your personal life as well. Becoming overwhelmed with stress can lead to physical problems and the deterioration of personal relationships. Structure your personal life in a similar way as your professional life. Work on eating right, don’t skip breakfast and avoid those late night meals. Get 30 minutes of cardio exercise 3 or 4 times a week and get a minimum of 6 or 7 hours of sleep each night.

Anxiety Elevates Cortisol Levels

 by teridreshner

Photo: buzzle.com

During moments of anxiety, cortisol is released in our bodies whenever we face tense and anxious situations. The adrenal glands in our bodies secrete a type of "fight-or-flight" hormones called cortisol, together with adrenaline.

These stress hormones turbo-charge us to deal with the immediate emergency that we are facing. We feel energized, powered up, with clarity of mind to make instant important decisions.

In some rare life-threatening cases, some people have even been reported to do miraculous stunts, like in a case where a mother was able to lift a lorry to save her baby!

However, in our daily lives, most probably our emergency would be to finish that bulk of reporting in a deadline that is tomorrow morning!

It is normal for us to have sporadic release of cortisol, as this hormone is essential to support our daily functions. But if cortisol is released too often, it can take its toll on our health. Over a prolonged duration of anxiety, the brain chemicals become conditioned, giving rise to anxiety attacks, which is a sensation that there is perpetually something wrong, which intensifies over time and could lead other other symptoms such as rapid heart beat, sweaty palms and difficulty in breathing.

In our high-stress culture, our body's response to stress is activated so frequently, that it is not given a chance to return to normal. There are many factors that can trigger the release of cortisol in the body, such as frequent exercise or lack of sleep. Elevated cortisol levels are the result of the too frequent release of cortisol in the body.

Prolonged high levels of cortisol can lead to heart disease and damage our liver. Other negative effects might include higher blood pressure, higher levels of "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and lower levels of "good" cholesterol (HDL), impaired cognitive performance, blood sugar imbalances such as hyperglycemia, suppressed thyroid function, decreased bone density, decrease in muscle tissue, weak immune system, slow wound healing, and even increased abdominal fat, also known as belly fat!

Cortisol suppresses another important, DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone), the "youth" hormone which is used by the body to produce corticosterone and the male and female sex hormones testosterone, estrogen and progesterone. DHEA is the hormones that helps our body to prevent and fight cancer. With DHEA suppressed, the body is susceptible.

No wonder cortisol is known as the "stress hormone" and is sometimes referred to as the "death hormone". Cortisol creates chronic to severe inflammation that eventually causes premature aging and leads to an earlier death.

So, if you find yourself having these symptoms, the most obvious one being the accumulation of fat around the abdomen, ask yourself, if you are suffering from stress and anxiety. You need to calm yourself down after every stressful situation and allow your body to relax, so that the cortisol levels can return to its normal healthy levels.

You can manage your cortisol levels with a few simple lifestyle changes and nutritional nourishment for your adrenals and some special herbs known asadaptogens, which are harmless plants with no side effects. These herbs help the human body to adapt to stress and increase resistance to disease.

Among them are holy basil, ashwagandha, shatavari, dong quai, schizandra, gynostemma, astragalus and rhodiola.

Do Successful People Deposit Only Positive Thoughts?

Photo: selfpursuit.com

Do you ever wonder why successful people become so successful? You may
say because their smart, or they were able to get a good education, or
maybe even because they were born with a silver spoon in their mouth.
Successful people are successful because they only deposit positive
thoughts in their mind.

When you deposit negative thoughts in your mind like, I do not have
enough money, then more negative thoughts will come into play. When
you deposit positive thoughts like, I can afford anything I want, then
positive things will happen. In reality, thoughts do become things,
that is why successful people choose to deposit only positive
thoughts.

Any time that there is a problem or obstacle you have, you use your
mind to think of how to solve it. If all your mind has in it is
negative thoughts, your problem or obstacle will never be solved. They
will just continue to get bigger and bigger. So change your negative
thoughts to positive ones and you can solve your problems much easier.

How do you feel when you are around a person, and everything that
comes out of their mouth is negative? You get rapped up in all the bad
stuff going on that they are talking about and you start feeling bad.
How do you feel when your around a person and their bright, cheery and
everything they say is positive? You start to feel bright and cheery
and they put a smile on your face. They make you feel just like
sunshine on a cloudy day!

Everyone has bad days and challenges. Days where nothing seems to go
right. You can either continue to dwell on the bad stuff and let it
take over your mind, like an unsuccessful person or you can think of a
positive way to change your bad day and come up with a solution like a
successful person does. Start changing your negative thoughts to
positive ones and your bad days will become good days. Your obstacle
will be nothing but a small fence to jump over. You will become that
successful person that is waiting inside of you to come out. The
choice is yours to make. I choose to deposit positive thoughts in my
mind and be successful, how about you!

Stress Management Facts: The Things You Need To Learn

 by luciletaylor

Photo: nlpf.net

Stress management was practically unheard of during the turn of the last two decades. Then suddenly it becomes the most treaded psychological area in the medical community. What are stress management facts really? How would you tell if you are suffering stress? And what can you do about it? Here are some information about stress management facts that you should know about, this 20th century disease of the modern man.

What is Stress?

Stress is defined by many sources as some manifest produced from a physical or psychological stimulus, a fight-or-flight response of the body. The physical stress is often attributed to activities such as in muscle priming in preparation for an energetic activity; for example like the bunching of muscles, the release of adrenaline, the increase of rate of lung and heart activity, the constricting of blood vessels in various parts of the body -all in preparation of a run. But stress DO trigger in the psychological area, which involves an afflicted person's physiological reaction to a disturbing internal or external stimulus and then triggers an anxiety. Before explaining further, let's understand more about the Fight-or-Flight Stress Response

The Fight-or-Flight response as described by Walter Cannon (American Physiologist, 1929) is an acute stress response that triggers when animals faces fight-or-flight situations. This sympathetic nervous system discharge primes the animal for control of the situation; one of them is by releasing adrenaline and inhibiting of pain receptors for a fight.

In modern day humans, the "fight-or-flight" stress reaction stimulates itself by the following circumstances: it could be an approaching deadline, a failing project, a crumbling relationship, a death of a family member on an inappropriate time.

Does the Fight-or-Flight Stress affect us in any way?

Yes it does, and it affects a number of things. A number of recent researches had showed that stress becomes a major contributing factor to lowering the immune system and introducing myriads form of physical illnesses such as heavy migraines and insomnias, stroke and its relations, and eczema. And it does contribute largely to mental illnesses like severe depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and general anxiety disorder.

How does it affect us? As your sympathetic nervous system discharges fluids to cope up with stress, it may also do several functions which may not be needed. One of them is releasing fluids that when not used up can cause headaches-migraines then to insomnia. The constriction of several blood vessels alone, plus the liberation of nutrients on your muscles can cause toxins which won't be released by the body in form of sweat.

Stress Management facts are then a study of techniques that is intended to help people maneuver themselves in and out of these stress periods safely. Stress management facts allow them to channel these buildup of energies which if remained within the body contributes largely to several illnesses.

Stress and blood pressure are related!

by jimandrews

Photo: businessknowledgesource.com

There are significant links between stress and blood pressure. Being stressed leads to many problems and blood pressure is one of them. If you are suffering from high blood pressure then your knowledge about stress can make relevant differences in your cardiovascular health.
Physical response of body towards different events includes secretion of hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. Due to these hormones blood pressure causes your heart to beat faster and also blood vessels to constrict.

Stress occurs on account of many reasons like problems in adjustment between office and home and overload of work. If it persists for a long term then it is disastrous for health as it increases blood pressure . Once stress is relieved body pressure returns to its normal stage. Temporary spike in blood pressure may result in damaging your blood vessels, kidneys and heart. Upon that if you react to stress by smoking and drinking alcohol then your problem of blood pressure can become worse. If this combination persists together for long period of time then it increases your risk of stroke and heart attack.

You can fight against stress and blood pressure if you know how to manage your routine activities. Proper balance between daily activities provides you peace of mind and thus reduces stress leading to normal blood pressure. Here are below mentioned some ways to manage stress and blood pressure:

• You should make flexible schedule of routine activities. Take out some time for rest and pursue your hobbies as it will bring satisfaction and peace to your mind and body.

• Being consistently busy in work exhausts body and mind resulting in stress and blood pressure in people. Hence schedule your time flexibly and follow it sincerely.

• Whenever you feel stress then relax and take high and deep breathe. It will relieve down your stress and blood pressure also gets normal with it.

• Consult your doctor for exercises which are beneficial in relieving stress and also keeps your blood pressure normal. Physical activities are a natural stress buster.

• Talk to friends, spouse or any close one if you are feeling anxious or worried.

• Take enough sleep.

• Eat healthy and avoid any indulgence in alcohol, drugs or smoking.

Developing Your Positive Mental Attitude

 by terryptb

Photo: simplemindpower.com
Don't believe for a minute that the whole world is against you and that nothing you do can change that. The power of positive thoughts will achieve more success than being negative. Believe that the world is just itching to make it happen for you and it will!

Have you ever played the parking game? Next time you're looking parking and you know finding one may be difficult, try asking your parking fairy, or whatever you want to call it, to help you get a parking space.

As you drive along tell yourself that you will get a parking and that the world around you is working really hard to ensure that you will drive into the space in front of the door. This little exercise will work as long as your positive thoughts go out without hesitation and disbelief.

If you don't drive, try it with something else; perhaps tickets to a really popular show or concert that could be sold out already or maybe a table at your favorite restaurant on their busiest evening. Expect the universe to help you attain what you would like to have and it just may surprise you.

Now if these small little goals get some help from the world, and they will if you ask really sincerely, then surely the world will help you with bigger tasks and goals. What about expecting the world to help you through a serious operation?

Or why not expect the world to help with that dream home you have wanted so badly all your life? What about the dream job, do you think the world and its inhabitants will help with that? People in general do like to help others because it helps brings us to empathize with our own needs as human beings.

In order for you to see the world as you're helping agent, you need have to have faith. Faith is simply believing without seeing. If you sincerely ask for and expect help in achieving your goals, you will find that the hurdles and obstacles placed in your path become opportunities instead; but this will only happen if we change our attitude towards things and circumstances.

Big changes happen in our lives when we start looking at the world in a different light. If you view everything around you as being there just to block your progress then every small hiccup will become a major problem. If you consider those hiccups to be something that has been given to you as help then your entire journey will be so much easier to manage.

An optimist will not only achieve more in their lives but are happier as well.
A positive outlook will make your journey so much easier. Through some strange universal power, that positive attitude mix with faith makes overcoming your obstacles so much easier, or maybe it just seems easier because of the positive attitude.

Sometimes life seems to throw many problems in our way, and they can seem endless. Facing those problems and obstacles with a positive mental attitude doesn't make them go away, but it does make coping with them a lot easier. Nurture your positive mental attitude because it is a habit that will form your future.

True success begins with loving yourself, developing your Godly character, and learning how to serve others.
We all should pursue our passions and not our payday!

Best Of Success,

The Effects of Music on Stress & Anxiety

by miche79

Photo: healthheap.com

People often experience anxiety in anticipation of events that will be unfamiliar, uncomfortable, or have undesirable results. Even minor occurrences can produce reactions in anxiety prone people. Music is an easily administered, nonthreatening, noninvasive, and inexpensive tool to calm anxiety. The effect on people listening to music prior to and during surgery has been the subject of several studies. Some indicate that music is effective in reducing anxiety before and during surgerical procedures.

Music is thought to have many effects on an individual. Researchers believe that music may relieve stress by diverting attention away from or masking annoying noise. Doctors report that music can help achieve a deep state of relaxation, relieve insomnia, enable patients to recall suppressed memories, lower blood pressure, and normalize cardiac arrhythmia. One author claims that music enables the body to synchronize its rhythms with the rhythms of vibrating bodies around it. For example, if an anxious person with a racing heartbeat listens to slow music, his or her heart rate will slow down and synchronize with the music's rhythm.

Other researchers looked at the actual experience of listening to music during postoperative recovery and evaluated findings from a phenomenological (the system of stressing the description of phenomena) perspective. Three themes emerged from the data, including:
1. Comfort from a discomforting condition.
2. Familiarity in a strange environment.
3. Distraction from fear, pain, and anxiety.

In addition, another group of researchers found that music in combination with relaxation techniques aids in reducing pain during excercise and at rest. Music's calming effects have been demonstrated by another group of researchers. They recruited 96 patients undergoing heart surgery and randomly assigned them to one of three groups.
1. Music therapy
2. Music-videotape therapy
3. Scheduled rest
Participants in the groups received their assigned 30-minute intervention at two times on postoperative days two and three. The results showed significant improvement in mood among participants in the music intervention group; however, no significant differences were reported for anxiety ratings. There were significant effects over time on heart rate and systolic and diastolic blood pressure, which indicates a generalized relaxation response.

Yet another group of researchers carefully designed a study on the effects of music on 121 patients undergoing cataract surgery as outpatients. They were also allocated randomly into three groups.
1. Patients in the first group heard relaxing suggestions
2. Patients in the second group heard white noise and OR noise
3. Patients in the third group heard relaxing music
Patients in the group listening to relaxing music were found to be more satisfied than patients in the group listening to relaxing suggestions. Patients in the group who heard the white noise and OR noise were found to be the least satisfied, but there was no attendant reduction in levels of anxiety among members of the three groups.

Music has been acknowledged as an emotional science as it sets up a certain vibration resulting in a physical reaction. For every person there is a specific vibration that affect him. Each and every person feels engrossed and lost In music as per his feelings, emotions, thoughts or moods and finds an opportunity to express oneself. This outlet of oneself is a kind of purification and can greatly assist in lowering anxiety levels.

Stress is a common problem for everyone. It can be caused by the people around you, too much thinking, work and many others. Fortunately, there are ways to relive stress without taking medication.
Here are 7 stress reducers that will not cost you a dime:

1.Meditation
Allowing your mind to rest during times when you’re to stressed out thinking of something like work will make you feel better. When you think too much, you lose concentration. You cannot think clearly, leading to unorganized thoughts and mistakes. Through meditation, you focus your minds to a single thing or goal. It will relax your mind. You can either buy meditation CDs or mp3 to help you meditate or join meditation classes. Some studies have shown that regular meditation helps reduce stress levels and helps regulate blood pressure.

2.Eat Healthy
Refrain from eating junk foods and too much coffee and alcohol intake. Reduce munching on sweets because these tend to rattle the nerves more. Try eating whole grains, dairy, nuts, green veggies, some fish and drink lots of water. Living a healthy life will help feel better about yourself. And if these aren’t a typical part of your meal, then try to add these little by little. You’ll feel sexy and stress free.

3.Exercise
Exercising triggers the release of endorphins, which are mood stabilizers produced in the brain that reduce pain and helps a person be naturally happy. Exercising doesn’t mean spending a whole day on the gym, a simple walk with your dog or a biking within the village will do.

4.Have a good night’s sleep
When we are stressed we tend to spend the night thinking about our problems. This habit adds to your stress level. Instead of thinking, why not relax your mind by reading your favorite book or taking a relaxing bath before sleeping. Never drown yourself with alcohol before sleeping because it will worsen your sleeping patterns and will result to a headache when you wake up. Relaxing your mind will give you a good night sleep and a smile when you wake up.

5.Change your routine
We follow a schedule every day. Sometimes we get tired and stressed of doing the same old thing. Consider changing these routines. Instead of cleaning the house, why not do it with a twist. Try to incorporate play with your everyday cleaning ask your children to get all the toys scattered and whoever has the most number of toys gathered wins a price. By doing so, you have combined cleaning and playing.
6.Discover a new hobby
When everything seems to be a blur, why not make yourself busy with surfing the net, blogging, sewing, painting or anything you are interested of doing. One way of relaxing is by getting a hobby. It will surely change the direction of your mind takes

7.Have a vacation
A time out from all the commotion around you is a good way of reducing stress. Whether it is just for the weekend, a day or a week, taking a break will give you time to relax, recharge and draw off all the stress away.

Stress, whether we like it or not, is a part of our lives. But we should not let it affect our daily grind. Think of ways on how to get rid of it. Live a stress-free life, you deserve it.
