Creativity - The First Cousin To Genius

 by Robert Elson

Photo: psychologytoday.com

"Genius knows where the questions are hidden." Mason Cooley

What exactly is the difference between the mind of a genius and the mind of an ordinary person? Michael Michalko, in his book Cracking Creativity, says he thinks the difference is that geniuses know how" to think, instead of what" to think. This enables them to create completely new concepts and say to themselves that anything is possible.
That simply means that they look at problems differently. They combine ideas, images, and thoughts in a different way and are able to recognize patterns in the world around them. They know how to make connections between objects, no matter how unusual or disparate. An example of this is when Leonardo DaVinci made the connection between the tone of a bell and a flat stone hitting the water, causing waves. His connection was that sound also traveled in waves.

Another sign of genius is the ability to think in opposites. An example of this type of thought would be the Danish physicist Niel Bohr. In 1928, he announced that it was possible to imagine light as both waves and particles, not however simultaneously.

The ability to think in metaphors is considered a sign of genius. Aristotle felt that if a person has the ability to compare two separate areas of existence and somehow find a relationship there, then that person has a special gift.

A person of exceptional abilities also focuses on how to analyze the process of accidental creativity. It's not a matter of why it failed, but what exactly did it do?

A person possessing genius is highly productive. An example of this was Thomas Edison, who held over 1,000 patents. In his book Cracking Creativity, Michael Michalko states that geniuses produce large quantities of ideas because they think fluently. Apparently, their minds are extremely busy; they think all the time. And it's possible for the rest of us to develop these attributes as well. It's simply a matter of training our brains to think more fluently.

According to Buckminster Fuller, Everyone is born a genius. Society degeniuses them." Some believe that genius just appears, out of the blue, and that the conditioned thinking of higher education can actually detract from a person's genius. Massive amounts of knowledge doesn't necessarily guarantee genius; it only means you have an excellent memory. And the good news is that you need not be a genius in order to be creative. And even better news is that we are capable of more than just creative thought; we are capable of more genius than we ever dreamed. Charles Baudelaire described genius as no more than childhood recaptured at will."

So, how do you accomplish this feat? You must retrain your brain to think like a genius. You can do that by following the above criteria. You must start to think about the world around you differently. Think in opposites, think in metaphors, and become more productive with your thoughts. And when ideas don't exactly pan out the way you hoped they would, you must ask yourself not why it failed, but what did it accomplish, what did it prove?

Want to develop the mind of an inventor? Start looking at designs around you and ask yourself how you could make them different. Max Planck, known as the father of quantum theory, believed that it was necessary for scientists to have a vivid intuitive imagination, for new ideas are not generated by deduction, but by artistically creative imagination." Even Einstein said his theories were free invention of the imagination." Ezra Pound said, Geniusis the capacity to see ten things where the ordinary man sees one and where the man of talent sees two or three, plus the ability to register that multiple perception in the material of his art."

Low Self Confidence and Low Self Esteem - What is the Difference?

 by pmangala

Photo: blogintheloop.intheloop.tv

Often, the terms self esteem and self confidence are used interchangeably. But there is a subtle distinction between the two terms.

Self confidence has to do with your belief in yourself and your abilities. Self esteem has more to do with how much value you put on yourself as a person. The difference between low self confidence and low self esteem is often the difference between the questions - "Can I do it?" Vs "Am I worth it?".

Low self confidence is typically driven by fear. What kind of fears? Fear of embarrassment, fear of rejection, fear of criticism, or fear of failure to name a few. Some of these fears usually originate, and gain ground, from our perception of how other people would react at us, based on our past experiences or our imagination. While other fears, like the fear of failure, for instance, could arise when we set tangible or intangible goals for ourselves, and start to evaluate our self worth based on our progress in achieving these goals.

But, both these kinds of fears, many times, point to an underlying issue of low self esteem as well.

So what about having good self confidence? Does having a good self confidence imply a feeling of great self worth as well?

Unfortunately, No.

Gaining self confidence, or getting a positive boost to one's belief in self-abilities, does not necessarily translate to an equivalent increase in terms of one's estimation of one's self worth.

Case in point: Some of the popular celebrities who radiate confidence on stage, but suffer in quiet desperation to the point of being driven to depression in their private lives. And that's possibly because their feeling of self worth is not keeping pace with all that they have achieved in their lives.

But the converse is always true - A low self esteem always leads to low belief in one self (low self confidence), and improving self esteem is a natural way to boost self confidence.

"Low self esteem is like driving through life with your hand-brake on." -Maxwell Maltz

We need to learn to get that brake off! The sooner we learn to do it, the better and happier our life will become.

How to Dream Big as a Young Professional

 by Tom Healy

Photo: thesource.org.au

The following is a Commencement Day speech given by the youngest head coach to ever win a National Football League Super Bowl, Mike Tomlin. He gave this speech to the graduates of The College of William & Mary in the spring of 2008. He structures it as if he were giving a pre-game speech to the graduates. This portion of the speech talks about dreaming big and does an incredible job of highlighting the importance of young people having big dreams. After reading through it, a few key statements will be examined that are especially significant for any young professional with the desire to accomplish greatness in their lives and careers.

"Lastly, and this is a mandate, team. It is critical for success in today's game. I mandate, I urge you, never, ever, stop dreaming. That will be the biggest change in your life when you walk out of this locker room door today. It's one of the things I love about working with younger people, in the business that I'm in. When you're young, you dream and you dream wildly. You do. And it's awesome.

The dreams are limitless. They know no bounds. On the other side of that door today, young people, is a reality, is a life. And if you are not careful, they'll diminish the dream.

The people that I come across, being blessed with being able to do what I do for a living. I come across people that are successful in every walk of life. Its one common bond that I notice that they all have… they're ridiculous dreamers.

Don't ever stop being that. I'm a ridiculous dreamer. To this day I do it. The difference is, what separates our dreams from the ones we all shared when we were children, is that we have to make daily choices, to take action. To make those dreams a reality. That is what I mandate for this team to do today.

Continue to dream. Don't let the realities of the world that awaits you on the other side of that locker room door, diminish those dreams.

Make the conscious daily decisions to take action to make those dreams a reality."

The above portion of Tomlin's speech does a terrific job of hitting five key points that you must keep in mind as you dream big and develop your vision. Below are quotations to illustrate those key points, as well as an explanation of each.

"When you're young, you dream and you dream wildly. You do. And it's awesome."

Let's stop for a second, and think about what your dreams were at 8-years-old; possibly you saw yourself making the winning shot in Game 7 of the NBA Finals for your favorite team. Perhaps you were the lead role on Broadway in your favorite show. Or maybe you were the biggest movie star in Hollywood. Regardless of what your dream was, there was one theme that was universally common - the dream was big. Actually, the dream was huge, and there was nothing in the world that could stop you from imagining that feeling. Never once did you think to yourself that maybe you weren't talented enough to achieve that dream, or that it would take too long to reach it. Your 8-year-old imagination was innocent and not crowded with the negative thoughts that most people carry with them in their adult lives.

Why is it that as people get older, they all of a sudden start to have doubt in their minds? One day, you may suddenly feel you are not smart enough to get into graduate school. There is no way that at 8-years-old you would have told yourself that being your own boss and running a highly successful company would be too difficult and that you didn't have the time or money to do it. The older people get, the more likely they are to find excuses and reasons why they can't accomplish something. The key is to block all of those excuses out of your mind and truly believe that you are capable of doing anything and everything that you can possibly imagine.

Do you think that at your age it is possible to dream like you once did? If you concentrate and focus, is it possible to have wild dreams about success and happiness without worrying about the obstacles you may face? Make the commitment right now that at the end of this book when you develop your personal vision you will dream like you used to as a child.

"The dreams are limitless. They know no bounds."

Refuse to set the bar low for yourself when you develop your personal vision of success. Don't settle for less than your potential will allow. Too often people are content with "just getting by" when they are capable of accomplishing so much more. Just because someone else has not achieved something, doesn't mean that you can't do it. Don't try to simply match others' successes, but surpass the accomplishments of others and create even higher standards for success. When you create your dreams, there is no limit on how big and creative they can be. The only limits that you face are the ones that you create in your own mind, from either your thoughts or the negative thoughts of those around you. Make a commitment to have no limits or boundaries for the dreams that you create.

"I come across people that are successful in every walk of life. It's one common bond that I notice that they all have… they're ridiculous dreamers."

Be a ridiculous dreamer; in fact be so ridiculous that everyone else around you thinks that you are crazy. When Fred Smith wrote an economics paper on a concept for an overnight delivery service in a computer information age, his professor gave him a C grade and told him the idea was unrealistic. In his 20s, Fred Smith turned this concept into FedEx, and his net worth is currently over $2 billion. His professor thought his idea was crazy, and guess what, that's the whole point. Make the average person think you are absolutely insane because your visions and dreams are so much larger than everyone else around you. Average people will only ever accomplish average things.

Right now, think of one of your dreams for your life that is absolutely ridiculous and that most people would think you are crazy for even thinking you could accomplish. If you cannot think of one, then you will need to by the end of this book. You must have at least one ridiculous dream that the average young professional would think was unattainable. A person who dreams obnoxiously is better than someone who is scared to do so. Be a ridiculous dreamer for the rest of your life.

"The difference is, what separates our dreams from the ones we all shared when we were children, is that we have to make daily choices, to take action."

By setting the bar high with large dreams comes the responsibility to also align your daily actions with those dreams. You cannot just say you want to do something without developing a specific plan and then sticking to it daily. It is one thing to say that you want to be in the top 10% of your law class; it's a completely different thing to actually study an hour longer each day than the others do in your class.

As an adult, you need to identify on a daily basis what it will take to reach your dreams, and then you must make the commitment to consistently do those activities necessary to be successful. The difference between a dream and an actual success is the ability to persevere through the difficulties and accomplish everything necessary to reach the goals you set for yourself.

Having a strong daily routine that aligns with your vision is crucial. If you have no routine, it's easy for weeks, months or even years to pass before you realize you have done nothing to move closer to your vision. If you identify what you must do daily to be successful, hold yourself accountable to that plan and consistently follow through with the necessary activities, then you will be successful. If you do the necessary daily activities most of the time, you may eventually get there, but probably not as quickly or easily as you would have liked. If you only do the necessary daily activities some of the time, then your chances of accomplishing your goals are even slimmer. The bottom line is simple - if you develop an effective daily plan and stick to it, you will be successful. Your actions will determine your fate.

"Don't let the realities of the world that awaits you on the other side of that locker room door, diminish those dreams."

You are an ambitious, hard-working individual who wants to be successful in this world. If you weren't, then you wouldn't be reading this book right now. The reality of this world is that most people aren't built like you. Do not let those people diminish your dreams, and do not let them ever tell you what you can and can't do in this world.

Causes of Social Anxiety Disorder

 by luciletaylor

Photo: ampandguitar.com

Anxiety disorder is described as excessive anxiety and worry about several events or activities. Unlike the rather mild and brief anxiety caused by a stressful event, anxiety disorders last at least six months and may worsen if they are not getting immediate treatment. Anxiety disorders usually occur along with other mental or physical illnesses, such as drug abuse and alcohol abuse, which may perhaps mask the anxiety symptoms or make them worse. There are several types of anxiety disorders and one of them is social anxiety disorder or social phobia.

Social anxiety disorder is diagnosed if you become tremendously anxious and extremely uncomfortable in everyday social situations. It is understood as extreme fear in the aspect of social interaction. They can worry for days or weeks even before the dreaded situation. This anxiety may become so severe that it may affect daily activities. Social anxiety is a medically recognized disorder that harshly hinders the value of life. People with social phobia have an intense, persistent, and constant fear of being watched and judged by others. Various causes are suspected, especially in the combination of genetic composition, early growth and development, and later life experience. These causes are categorized into the following:

Genetic disposition: it is possible that child of one or both shy parents may inherit genetic code that amplifies shyness into social anxiety disorder.
Ethology: averting the gaze is very usual with social anxiety disorder.
Development: social anxiety emerges at different developmental stages. Solitude becomes more important as anxiety about physical looks and performance in school increases. We also know that traumatic stressful events in life occurring at an early developmental stage may increase the risk of social anxiety disorder.
Chemical disorder in the brain: people with anxiety disorder may have abnormalities in the functioning of some parts of their anxiety response system. The anxiety system is influenced by four areas of the human brain namely; the brain system (cardiovascular and respiratory functions), limbic system (mood and anxiety), prefrontal cortex (appraisals of risk and danger), and motor cortex (control of muscles).

There are people with social phobia who realize that their fears about being with people are overwhelming and irrational, but they find it difficult to overcome them. If they are able to confront their fears and be around with others, they are usually very worried ahead of time, and extremely uncomfortable throughout the whole encounter, and worry about how they were judged the whole time afterwards. But, this illness is curable with certain kinds of psychotherapy or medications.

The physical symptoms that usually accompany social anxiety disorder include, blushing, too much sweating, trembling, nausea, and difficulty talking. When these symptoms occur, people with social anxiety disorder usually fell as though all eyes are focused only to them.

The next time we see someone from a party or any social functions and we someone looking uncomfortable, we should not pay more attention to them like we usually do. For all we know, that person might be struggling deep inside trying to overcome his or her fear.

Creative Questions

 by arne

Photo: scienceoftheinvisible.blogspot.com

“WHY CAN I PAY MY BILLS?” was the question that made Arne Rantzen realize the power of questions. Arne tells us how he discovered Creative Questions.

“Some years back I was discouraged about my bills and was doing my usual self-abusing and complaining that my success wasn’t where it should be, so I re-focused on how I could actually pay my bills. This time something happened and I noticed that the feeling bad, negative and hopeless was suddenly replaced by feeling good and positive, with plans at hand. Looking closer at the transformation I realized that I had changed from feeling bummed out by the answers to my question “Why do I have so many bills?” to feeling excited by wondering “HOW CAN I PAY MY BILLS?”

After 7 years of investigation Monica Garaycoechea and Arne Rantzén share their findings, of the impact that questions have on our lives. They are committed to teach the new Creative Question Language and have now developed several inspirational tools, such as the elegant Creative Question Cards set, the one-year Online Advanced Coaching program, their international workshops and individual coaching, available on their interactive web.

What is a Creative Question and why should you be asking them?
Arne says, “Creative Questions are specific questions. “How shall I deal with my relationship?” and “Should I buy this new Car?” are not creative questions. Creative Questions train your mind, by choosing the questions that will give you the answer that you want. When you ask yourself “How shall I deal with my relationship?” you are not guided in any particular direction. This question can give you a variety of answers. Creative Questions are precise questions that only allow answers that promote the result that you want, like “HOW DOES MY RELATIONSHIP SUPPORT ME?” makes you realize how supportive your relationship is.

The story of these two professionals demonstrates the gradual uncovering of the Power of Creative Questions, because they both wondered “HOW CAN I LIVE UP TO MY POTENTIAL?” Now, their realization has become a breakthrough in consciousness evolution circles.

Affirmations Monica and Arne have both worked a lot with affirmations over the years, an important tool used in many New Age and self-help circles to create a supportive frame of mind. “I am grateful to this step of evolution and to Louise Hay, Leonard Orr and Sondra Ray, the originators of much of the body of work around the use of affirmations,” Arne said. Now the next step in evolution has arrived as the Creative Questions Approach. Tapping into this level of manifestation, results are accelerated and deepened at the same time. “With affirmations, it’s a little more flat, continued Monica. You can use the affirmation “I am successful”, but when you switch to the Creative Question “WHY AM I SUCCESSFUL?” you notice an immediate switch to being filled with powerful certainty.”

Monica Garaycoechea was a medical doctor in her home country of Spain for 14 years, before she realized, that although she had the success most people only dreamed of, she said, “I was still missing something.”

At the same time, Swedish born Arne Rantzén was frustrated that his life wasn’t going anywhere.

In 1982 Arne began to bring his experience of Tibetan Buddhism, hands-on healing, therapeutic breathing techniques and the New Age worlds together. He wanted to create an effective healing technique that brought physical health, as well as reminding people to live meaningful lives with a sense of spiritual fulfillment. He worked as a trainer with such key figures in the consciousness movement as Sondra Ray, the creator of the Loving Relationships Training, Bob and Mallie Mandel, the leaders in Rebirthing and the International Seminar Leadership Program and Don McFarland, the founder of Body Harmony. And no matter how strong his credentials grow, he still brings that sparkling and humble presence to his events.
Meanwhile, Monica had established her own medical clinic in Spain. She found herself feeling that the “medical explanations were not enough” and wondered “What is the real cause of sickness?” Wanting answers, not only from a physical approach, but also from a metaphysical stand point.

Monica started her quest with Zen meditation, yoga and spiritual psychology. Then she explored, in depth, A Course In Miracles, Rebirthing with the founder Leonard Orr, and became a teacher of Louise Hay’s “You can heal your life” program. She began to understand the bridge between our physical and spiritual lives and that we are really creating our own realities. Monica accessed her freedom, immersing herself completely in the research of “Who am I?” to “expand and transcend the limitations of unconscious living”. And today she follows the footsteps of such teachers as Gangaji, Eckart Tolle and David Deida.

In 2007 Monica and Arne ushered in the rebirth of the new Creative Questions Card set, a sleek and sexy black and silver redesign sparked by a vision Monica had around the original yellow and blue deck, then called “Question Cards For A Better Life.”

There are 52 Creative Question cards, in the Creative Question set, addressing the 52 most important aspects of our lives. The enlightening 80-page Creative Questions Guidebook, that comes with the set explore, in depth, the meaning of each Creative Question card and gives you insightful inspiration that will impact your daily life, as well as giving you instructions on how to effectively use the Creative Question Cards. The cards come with an Organza bag and a card stand that makes it easy to display your daily card so you can see it often and be reminded to occupy your mind with what you want instead of the usual useless merry-go-round thoughts.

Stay away from bad questions Arne Rantzen said, “It is important for us to know how the manifestation process really works, because we unconsciously use it all the time. We often asks ourselves bad questions and get unwanted results. Learning how to ask Good Questions will give you the result that you really want.

Asking questions is how you motivate yourself, but many of the questions you ask are discouraging or negating your well-being, like “What is wrong with me?” “Why am I always in trouble?” or “Why is this always happening to me?” I’ll tell you why. It’s because you’re asking for it,” Arne laughs, pointing to the fact that “mind must answer your questions to keep you sane. We tend to ask questions that are limiting. That’s why the Creative Question cards are such a valuable contribution in learning how to ask Good Questions.“

The Creative Question Approach is an invitation to turn around your whole life and point it in the direction that you really want to go. Creative Questions direct you to investigate many aspects of your life, not just improving your material world although they can certainly be used for that. They help point you to where you want to go with every aspect of your life, from your personal relationships, to your health, spiritual quest, life’s work, creative growth and more. “WHY AM I GOOD ENOUGH? WHY AM I WEALTHY? WHY AM I ADMIRED?

Advanced Coaching Monica is the creator of the powerful one-year Online Advanced Coaching program “I created the “Expand Yourself and Change Your Life” coaching program to support people who want to truly understand and experience the power of Creative Questions”, Monica shared with pride and continued “Through this advanced coaching you will go deep and learn how to embrace subconscious material, feelings and thoughts, that oppose your expansion, opening up "space" for you to be able to think, feel and be, more of who you truly are. This investigation is a profound and easy way to promote the qualities of your Natural State, such as gratitude, success and abundance.”

The 52 Online Advanced Coaching sessions are designed for you to thoroughly integrate the 52 vital Creative Questions by being guided to focus a whole week on each, so you can really expand and change your life.

Working with Creative Questions you connect with your own unlimited potential that already exists inside you. Then, in the advanced study of the power of questions, you learn how interconnected you are to the whole world. Monica offers a practice in her Online Advanced Coaching where she encourages participants to “offer their creative question to the world.” For example, if you ask a waitress in a restaurant “WHY ARE YOU SO HAPPY?” or “WHY ARE YOU SO GOOD AT YOUR JOB?” you would see a 30-second transformation in that stranger’s attitude and aura.

There is a lot more about Creative Questions - information and fun ways for you to play with them - at the Creative Questions website.

How to Get More Done in Less Time

 by niamh@livingaloud.com

Photo: aroundhawaii.com

Time is incredibly important to us. We can't get it back. Yet if we are looking to improve our lives, help our families and work with others it seems that there is more to add to the to do list every single day. And even if we are incredibly efficient, there will always be more to do than time to do it. As you tick each item off, two more get added to the list. But time is the one commodity that we really can't create any more of, of course we can be healthy and try to live longer. Now if good health meant living to 90 rather than 80 do you want to be using the extra 10 years at 80,or do you want to have 10 years worth of free time to do what you love, to spend with your family, to travel the world, NOW?

Always remember that all you've got is the present moment. No matter how great your future is looking, you will always be on the journey. You only arrive when you die. So you have to make sure that you are enjoying your time and spending it well right now. You can do this by getting the things you have to do done more quickly so that you free up more of your time.

Doing this is actually very easy. You just need Focus. Focus doesn't always come easy. There is so much to do that we usually attempt to multi-task and do everything at once. Divide your attention and everything you try to do will suffer. Focusing on one thing at a time means you get it done faster AND you do a better job. Remember, as I learned from Brian Tracy: What you focus on grows.

Applying your focus is actually very simple. Start your day with a little planning. What is truly important? What must get done today? Make your list of only truly important tasks. Don't forget some of the most important tasks should be your exercise program, your time with the family, etc. It's important not to work this like a usual to do list and just work your way through it. The tasks should be scheduled into the day and time slots alloted for each.

Now is where Focus comes in. In each time slot you most ONLY focus on the task alloted to that time. You need to shut down your email, send the phone straight to voicemail and find a quiet space. It's very important that if you are working on something online or on your computer you close every other window that is open. The temptation to check emails or hit refresh might be overwhelming. The quickest way to get distracted is to have Twitter and Facebook open. If the windows aren't open you would actually have to make the conscious decision to go check your email or your Facebook, and now you know that it would be detrimental to your Focus and you can make the right decision. Focus will become easier and easier as you learn to keep your computer, your desk, etc tidy.

So keep it simple: what will you do, when will you do it, and just turn off any distractions. The first couple of times you try this you may feel the temptation to check voicemails, check emails, etc. But as you start to make that move, stop and remind yourself of how important focus is and go back to your task. You will find yourself getting faster and better at everything. And getting things done quickly and well will give you the free time to live your life.

Take a step towards treating your anxiety

 by JohnScott

Photo: anxietycuresreview.com

How many times did we want to turn the page over and start life from scratch? When life gets tough and it seems like there is no way out - all you can do is pray. That's what we should do, that is what's left to do. When you are unwell, physically or mentally it gets to you. In fact, everything does. You feel depressed and lonely, as if there is not a person on the planet that could understand you or feel your pain. Oh yes, pain … it makes us struggle and fail, get up and move on.

Anxiety and sudden panic attacks are not surprising anymore. When we hear somebody having those we no longer get shocked for some reason. It is like almost everyone has been through them in life. Life is difficult enough and everybody knows it. But what each of us should remember is that health is priceless.
Taking care of ourselves at times is the hardest thing to do. In certain circumstance people simply forget to care about their body. Stress leads to depression and depression leads to anxiety so the chain reaction really works … unfortunately for everybody.

Anxiety leaves people destroyed on the inside. It is as if you are worn out emotionally as well as physically. That's an absolute nightmare … actually speaking of those, it is fair to mention that nightmares are one of the symptoms of panic disorder, depression and anxiety.

When we ask certain respondents about their anxiety problems, they tried to be as frank with us as possible, stating this:" "I used to believe my worries were coming out of nowhere. I know there are people that tend to panic before anything happens. I would always consider myself that type of person. I didn't think my little discomfort had roots. Yes, I was unable to relax and enjoy myself because weird thins kept bothering me. Sometimes I would be able to have abstract thoughts but most of the time I was simply fixated. It drove me crazy up to the point that I stopped living a normal life. My dreams were not fine either. I would either have nightmares or would not be able to sleep at all. I am used to exaggerating now. I always think the problem is bigger than it is. But when it comes to my health I am being totally realistic - I do have issues and I need a treatment" Daniel Henderson opened up to us and we could not ignore his issue.

We are happy to let you know that anxiety can be treated and successfully. You don't have to feel nervous about your treatment - you treatment will stop making you nervous. The drug that will help you with your anxiety disorder is Xanax. Xanax is the veteran pill on the US market. It has helped millions of people so far and this isn't the limit. Sky is the limit for this drug. No matter how serious your issue seems to you Xanax will treat it without a doubt. But being a prescribed medication it is very important to not let yourself "go" with it. Use it only in accordance with the doctor's treatment schedule - he will know the exact dosage after your examination.

Don't ever allow anybody think you are not normal. Seeking for help and getting it at the right time - that is what normal people do. You medication is on your way. Take it and get rid of anxiety today. You won't believe how good it feels not having to worry about anything again.

Is there any connection between self confidence and depression?

 by farouk

Photo: huehueteotl.wordpress.com

Some people mistakenly believe that being depressed means that they lack self confidence. While this is a completely incorrect assumption still we can't say that there is no relation between self confidence and depression.

Being depressed doesn't mean that you lack confidence but in many cases lack of self confidence can lead to depression. In this article i will explain the relationship between self confidence and depression.

How lack of self confidence can lead to depression

Depression is the feeling you get when you lose hope in getting something that you really wanted, for example failing to reach your goals or to marry the person you love are examples of situations that could lead to depression.

So in order for depression to happen the following conditions must be present:

1) There must be something that you really need
2) Hope should be lost in getting that thing
3) No possible solutions that could work are availble.

now the question is, who doesn't want to be confident? being confident is a goal that almost everyone has even the confident people want to become more confident.

When someone keeps trying to build self confidence and keeps failing all the time he might lose hope in becoming confident and then become depressed!!

Instant depression and lack of confidence

Even if you don't live with depression still you can experience what i call instant depression if you lack self confidence.

Suppose that you think that you don't know how to handle Social situations. While staying at home or browsing the internet you might not be feeling bad at all but when you meet a stranger in the street and mess things up you might experience a feeling that is very similar to depression that lasts for a day or two.

I call this instant depression because it appears the moment you recall your lack of confidence problem and disappears when you forget about it.

In short lack of self confidence can surely lead to depression.

Proven way to Achieve Your Goals

 by edw3br

Achieve Your Goals Immediately

Some people may think that goals have a definite timeline to accomplish. In part, this is true, but there are certainly ways on how you can hasten the process. You can achieve more great things by focusing on the current job and getting it done, without any compromise. Here are some guidelines from the experts that you can use yourself.

Step One.

Things can be accomplished more quickly if you rely on other people and assign tasks accordingly. When forming a team, it is important that you choose individuals whom you can trust and are truly competent in the fields you assign them to. Teams need to be supervised to ensure that you get the results you want. You can also create a hierarchy or create pairs so that one can look out for the other, thereby saving you time when reviewing work.

Forming a team gives you the benefit of practicing your leadership skills. You will find that later on, you also get to finish tasks more quickly alone, since you've already created an effective system that will provide a smoother flow of various jobs. Make sure you also get the appropriate number of people for the job, or else you risk having too many to watch over, wasting precious time in the process.

Step Two.

Some goals actually have shortcuts that you can use to reach more quickly. These are not quick fixes, but can help the entire system respond in a more conducive manner, thereby boosting the process. For example, there are no short cuts to permanent weight loss, but you can do some techniques that will hasten the fat loss. Some of the approaches include using HIIT or high intensity interval training, instead of the traditional cardiovascular exercise. HIIT is done only in 20 minutes tops, and burns more fat and raises your metabolism higher and for longer periods of time. Your body will respond to the exercise faster.

To know about the shortcuts, always stay updated with changes and developments in technology and professional programs. Stay connected in a network of people related to your goals. Joining forums and online seminars are ideal. You can also talk to experts, so you can compare processes and determine if a certain approach is truly effective.

Step Three.

Consistency, discipline and dedication always give you faster and better results. If you want to finish things faster, you may have to put in extra hours and work longer than the usual. The more important thing is that you keep stress levels down afterwards by relaxing and giving yourself enough time to rest. This way, you can move on to the next goals to be achieved. Overtime should also be well-planned. You cannot expect to work effectively beyond your usual time if you're still tired the night before or do not have enough equipment to work with.

Prepare and strategize by coming up with small objectives and actions steps to be done in sequence. Having information prior to your overtime can help greatly and save you lots of idle time. You may also ask someone to work with you during overtime to accomplish more. Try to incorporate all the three steps above and see for yourself how much more you can boost the process.

The proven way to believe in yourself is to incorporate exercise into your daily life. One of the best forms of the exercise is fitness or team fitness. Find more on http://gettoaction.blogspot.com

Here are some guidelines from the experts that you can use yourself.

Self-Help Treatment For Anxiety Attacks

 by dons1

Photo: treatingwhatcausesanxietyattacks.com

In considering self help treatment for anxiety attacks, the first thing you need to do is get a proper diagnosis from a healthcare professional. Once diagnosed, you can then decide on your treatment. And more and more people are turning to self help treatment for anxiety attacks, rather than using mind-numbing drugs. Here are 5 things to help you treat your condition without drugs.

1 - Understand What Causes Anxiety Attacks

Anxiety attacks are triggered when someone with already higher-than-normal levels of anxiety suffers a peak of additional stress. This can be something as simple as driving in heavy traffic, shopping in a crowded environment, being in a crowded lift, preparing for an exam, etc. What happens is that this additional 'spike' of stress adds to your overall anxiety levels and pushes you 'over the top'.

Your unconscious mind wrongly perceives this as a life threatening situation and, as it is primed to do, sets in motion a serious of chemical and other physical changes to your mind and body to help you either fight the 'danger' or run away to safety. This is called your body's 'fight or flight' response and has been with us since primeval times.

But of course there is no external threat, all you've had is a rise in anxiety. But your unconscious mind doesn't have time to check out the reality, it just assumes the worse case scenario (which it's programmed to do) and triggers it's fight or flight response. The chemical and physical changes result in the symptoms you experience during an anxiety (panic) attack.

2 - Get To Know the Symptoms Of An Anxiety Attack

The following are typical symptoms to be aware of:- tight chest / throat, dizziness, nausea, hyperventilation, rapid heart beat, difficulty breathing, tingling fingers, sweating, trembling, feeling of being detached from surroundings, feeling of impending doom.

It is important to remember that these are just the symptoms associated with your body's flight or fight response to a 'percieved' dangerous situation that doesn't in fact exist. So you aren't having a heart attack or about to die. Try to remember this if you begin to feel the onset of symptoms. Even repeat it to yourself. It will help to reduce the intensity and length of the symptoms.

3 - Always Avoid Stress Where Possible

There are certain things in life which you can't avoid, but you must avoid unnecessary stress. Stress occurs through people, relationships, situations, etc. There are some you can't control, so don't try. But there others you can control and so you need to get rid of these stressful situations.

For example, if certain people not important to you are stressing you out, stay right away from them. If there is a relationship that causes you anxiety and stress almost daily then you need to seriously consider if it's worth continuing. If there are situations like driving to work that constantly stress you out, can you use public transport? can someone drive you? etc.

The workplace is a great source of stress. Are you working hard rather than working smart? Do you continually take on more than you can reasonably handle? Do you work voluntary overtime in order to pay for things that really aren't that important in the scheme of things? Try to reduce you hours and don't take on more work than you can handle.

4 - Be Positive During An Anxiety Attack

A positive attitude is just so important when you have anxiety and suffer anxiety attacks. Especially during an attack, a positive reaction to the onset of an attack can seriously limit its length and intensity. Anybody who has suffered an attack knows that it isn't easy to do this, but those that have managed know that it is true.

You now know that an anxiety attack cannot harm you. You now know what the symptoms are and what causes them. In other words you have all the information you need to meet your next attack head-on with a positive attitude.

5 - Eliminate Your Fear Of Another Anxiety Attack

This is the most important thing you'll learn in coping with anxiety attacks. Remember above you learned how a rise in stress on top of your already high anxiety can trigger a 'fight or flight' response which causes you to experience the symptoms as an anxiety attack? Well your 'fear' of having another attack acts in the same way...

Everyone who has suffered an anxiety attack has a conscious or subconscious fear of another. And no wonder the symptoms are terrifying! But this fear builds on your already higher-than-normal anxiety levels, so raising your overall anxiety even higher. By itself, or in conjunction with an everyday stressful event, this fear can trigger your body's fight or flight response, so producing an anxiety attack.

This vicious cycle of; anxiety > anxiety attack > fear > more anxiety > anxiety attack > more fear > even more anxiety > anxiety attack > and so on, must be broken to prevent further anxiety attacks and cure your general anxiety.

To discover the simple 'ONE MOVE' technique that will eliminate your fear factor and so break your vicious cycle of anxiety, go here now http://eliminatepanicattacks.blogspot.com and prepare to get your old self back again.

Symptoms of anxiety disorders

 by JohnScott

Photo: defeatsocialanxiety.com

People are different and so are the symptoms of any condition including anxiety disorders. However, there's a general set of signs that can help you learn about the problem, and the following symptoms will make it easier for you to identify anxiety problems.

The feeling of fear and anxiety are nothing strange for most of us, as we all experience anxiety from time to time. Writing an important exam, going to a serious business meeting or attending a job interview - these are just examples of situations where most people experience anxiety. And you certainly remember the emotions and sensations that you go through at moments like these. It's perfectly normal to experience such things when the circumstances are stimulating such a respond. But things go wrong when anxiety appears for no apparent reason.

Healthcare professionals do not deal with everyday anxiety, but focus on what is known as anxiety disorders. Anxiety disorders describe general abnormality in the occurrence of anxiety signs when there is no evident reason for this to happen. Moreover, with anxiety disorders the feelings of dread and fear can be more intense and uncontrollable, taking place much more often than normally. If the condition progresses it can impede the normal activity of an individual and requires immediate treatment.

Anxiety disorders are usually connected with the mechanisms triggering the so called flight or fight response. It is an old physiological mechanism developed during evolution that puts the body into a special mode when there's a direct or indirect threat to one's well-being (potential harm, risk of failure, potential humiliation, etc.) This mechanism didn't change much as the civilization developed, only it began to be triggered by circumstance other than our ancient ancestors faced during their lives. However, when an anxiety disorder develops, this response gets triggered by quite odd circumstances that normally don't pose any threat at all.

According to the actual situations that trigger this mechanism, doctors distinguish different types of anxiety disorders such as panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, specific phobia, separation anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, agoraphobia, and selective mutism.

The circumstances in which the anxiety is manifested differ from one type of disorder to another, but in general the symptoms are the same:

discomfort in the stomach
diarrhea
dry mouth
increased heart rate or palpitations
chest discomfort
troubled breathing
dizziness
abnormal urination
difficulty swallowing

Psychological symptoms that are usually linked to anxiety disorders include:

sleep disorders
irritability
concentration problems
fear of going crazy or dying
feeling surreal and inability to control own behavior

Such symptoms can be a serious sign of an anxiety disorder and require adequate treatment. Drugs like Valium can relieve the symptoms and decrease the frequency and intensity of anxiety attacks. However, you should first discuss the use of Valium or any other prescription medications with your doctor.

Anxiety attacks are treatable, so you don't have to worry about it much. Of course, experiencing anxiety attacks is not very pleasant, but if you go to your doctor and run a course of treatment, these anxiety problems can simply turn into unpleasant memories you have.

John Scott has shared his vision on numerous subjects throughout the years working with http://www.medmarkt.net/signs-of-anxiety-before-using-valium.html on a frequent basis. You can see most of his professional contributions there.

Overcoming negativity

 by ThomasStrickland

Photo: theskooloflife.com

When the sun is shining it's easier to think everything is right with the world except, no matter what the weather, life is never straightforward. It can be a little like the training courses you see in the movies for rookies to go through. Whether training for the police force or the military, we have to be able to run when necessary, jump, and shoot the terrorists and not the good guys. For those who are good at it, this is both exciting and fun. There's a satisfying challenge in getting through to the end with the maximum points scored. But for ordinary mortals, this can be a terrible trial. Bits of us wobble when we run and we have never been good at jumping. Most of the time it feels like the rest of the world is shooting at us. These feelings point to negativity in our lives. This makes it hard for us to enjoy the good things when they come along. When you feel more positive about yourself and your life, it's easier to be happy.

The negativity can be both inside us and directed at us by strangers, colleagues and supposed friends alike. One of the first signs of internal tension is when we start to grumble. This is showing our unhappiness. More importantly, we may be taking the first steps to becoming our own worst critic. This is like turning off the light. A simple flick of the switch plunges us into darkness. Yet, so long as we have not moved, it's easy to reach out again and turn the light back on. Easy in the sense of a physical action. But the mind does not always cooperate. It's a bit like sailing one of these giant container ships or oil tankers. While they are under full power, they cross oceans fast, but they take forever to respond to the wheel and turn. Stopping them takes miles of sea. In the other direction, it takes enormous energy to get them to move from their moorings. That's why you always see clusters of tugs towing them out of port. Without that outside help, these giants would never get started. That can be our lives. Some of us are not for turning. Some of us find it so hard to stop. Cognitive behavioral therapy can show people how to deal with negativity. It will always be a struggle, but it's possible to sail ships around the world. It's the same when it comes to dealing with negativity from others. If you learn coping strategies, you can respond more positively when people make suggestions or offer advice. Learn this is not necessarily hostile criticism.

In life's struggle, knowing there are drugs like Valium (Diazepam) can be a comfort. Should our own efforts to become more positive come to nothing, there's relief from anxiety available. This is not to say you should immediately rush to Valium (Diazepam). It's always better to face anxiety and beat it on our own terms if we can. But if it proves too difficult, an anti-anxiety drug like Valium (Diazepam) can give us just the respite we need to get back on your own feet. In the long term, it's better to learn new skills and motivate ourselves. Growing increasingly dependent on medication is not a good way to live our lives.

Creative Jobs can Help you Earn More

 by michael.fish

Photo: youngwomenmisbehavin.com

Are you in the search for a creative and passionate career? Well, then pursue your dreams and do what you're best at. Some of the most creative careers include fashion designing, architecture and interior designing, landscaping, music, creative writing or freelance writing, graphic designing, or careers in personal aesthetics such as hair care or make up artistry. There are other options as well and some of these include professions in the visual and media arts, culinary arts or performing and literary arts.

For instance wedding planners and event managers have an exciting option lined up for them. Other than helping the side of the groom and the bride to organize the wedding and ensure that everything is flawless, the event manager coordinates with the different people who are involved in the wedding such as those who have been appointed to supply the flowers, cake, food, dresses, gowns, choir and the list goes on.

One thing that you need to remember is that you cannot get started in a creative career just like that. What you need for the purpose is to have a flair for it and the competence to handle it. Other than that the factors that are responsible for the choice of a creative career are:

1. Personal choice
2. Aptitude
3. Professional criteria
4. Financial feasibility

Indulge in a Career in Photography

A career in photography is a perfect alternative for all the creative minds that possess an artistic vision as well as skills that help them see beyond the basics of their art. Photographers have a variety of career options lined up for them, and some of these include everything from wedding photographers to portrait studio associates etc. Whether you photograph nature or people or the dusty urban environment, the choice of specialization is something that will depend upon the degrees obtained under the course. It will also indicate if you will prefer working on your own or if you want to work for anyone else.

Salary is also an important consideration of the photography jobs. A lot of freelancers start by working on the side as it is a competitive sphere. At times the jobs are widely available whereas at other times these are scarce, depending on the demand at that season. A beginner can earn as much as about $50000 a year once they have a solid base of clientele. The salary depends on the type of photography (like, wedding photographers have a high demand). The salary of fine art photographers is unpredictable as it depends on whether people are interested in buying their work. Since these jobs are not meant for everyone, it is important to know what you want.

Fashion Designing is a Lucrative Creative Career Option for You

The fashion market is one of the most popular, profitable and interesting careers to take your pick from. That's because there is an ever increasing market for fashion designers and creative designers. Every single day brings a new area of interest for the fashion career with the designers all around the globe contending to have their hottest creations out on the ramp. The trend towards urbanization has led to a huge array of fashionable clothes being the choice for every generation. With fashion designing, other sectors are related such as retailing, purchasing and merchandising. The first thing that you need to get started in a fashion designing career is to identify your skills for evaluating whether you are suited to the needs of the industry.

The basic skills that would be required for this creative career are knowledge of colors and clothing, having the ability to sew, and finally dedication and commitment towards your goal. Getting enrolled in a fashion school will help train you in developing your skills further. With the right kind of education, and by choosing the right institution, you will be guided to getting good opportunities to prove your mettle. The fashion schools often organize internship classes for grooming the new talents for learning and acquiring skills that are required for getting the right exposure in the fashion jobs. Social networking is equally important to get started with new clients and projects.

Do you have the Musical Genius in You?

Have you always dreamed of making it big in the world of music? Music is a hugely popular field of creative arts, although not every one of us has the capacity to hone our musical skills and talents. So, with the present trend being towards that of multiple talent hunts and music reality shows, more and more talented individuals are looking ahead to prove themselves while at the same time getting widespread media coverage and a huge fan base. However, what you need to remember in this case is that the musical field, though popular and attractive in its own right, is a difficult area to break into owing to the huge competition and demand versus supply of jobs.

Often, youths with a musical talent will try to obtain jobs in music by looking for options of playing in a band or performing in an orchestra for getting a job in the sector. All you need for the purpose is the determination to succeed which is actually more important than relying on luck and talent. This is because there are a lot of talented individuals out there waiting to get in. moreover, luck is unreliable and to conquer it, you need commitment. With formal training and a little experience, you can make headway in the aspect of music.

With the above round up of a few creative jobs, what needs to be mentioned is that while the prospect of getting into a creative job is apparently unique, to start with, before taking the plunge you should note that this is an extremely unpredictable sector where performance and success does not come from the work available alone. You need to complement the availability of projects with your creativity and inner inspiration which will take care of success in the job that you are in, be it fashion jobs or photography jobs.

Michael Fish writes articles for CreativeJobsCentral (CJC), established in 2002 it is now the largest provider of jobs within creative industries. With over 7 years experience in connecting jobseeker to employer, CJC successfully fills exclusive job positions every day. Where do you find your motivation? Having a positive attitude and a lot of motivation is key to successfully reaching your intentions, becoming the person you want to be, doing the things you want to do, and obtaining the things that you want to have. If you want to succeed, you need to get a upbeat attitude and a lot of self ambition. Just what precisely is the need of a positive attitude and personal enthusiasm.

Without inducement, nothing giant would ever be done. Whenever a new business is developed, whenever someone gets a promotion, whenever someone builds a fortune, whenever somebody makes a dramatic improvement in their life, it occurred due to inducement.

Inducement is what gives folk the bravery to take chances, to test themselves, to follow their dreams, to beat challenges and barriers, and to endure long enough to see their dreams and goals become the grim reality of their life. What is motivation, and why has it got such a profound effect on races lives?

Incentive can come in many sizes and styles, but all motivation stems from people wishing to better some part of their life. When you are unsatisfied with some aspect of your life, whether it's success, wealth, health, or happiness, you will have the need for change.

That desire is the motivation, the force that may allow you to pursue and attain whatever it is that you wish to achieve. The more clear that your vision becomes, the more inducement it'll offer to you.

That is why many sensible individuals have said that all success comes out of a intense desire, that desire is the incentive for an improved life. If you find yourself lacking motivation, it basically means that your goals aren't clear or definite. Decide exactly what you want to be, to do, and to have in this life, and keep that vision in the front of your intelligence at all points, and you will develop the burning desire to achieve it.

This is the fire that ignites in people that drives them to the apex of whatever it is they have decided to pursue. And when you start to pursue your goals, do not ever get sidetracked by other goals until the original ones have been met. If you consistently change your trail, you won't finish up going anywhere worthwhile . Choose a destination and stick to it, and you will succeed.

When you are exposed to a stressful experience or situation, and you begin to feel those first waves of anxiety and panic, take a big breath and remind yourself your worries are bigger than this problem. Once you believe that, then you know you can get rid of those worries and deal with this problem very easily without panic. This is a tool called mindfulness, and it prevents us from over-reacting and experiencing outbursts or developing anxiety or panic attacks. If for example, you just got an email from your boss for a deadline that has been pushed back an hour, take a big breath and remember that exploding will make this problem worse. Taking that big breath is important, as it will tell your brain that your body is trying to calm down. Now give yourself five minutes to solve this problem, either by calmly letting your boss know that deadline is not possible, or rescheduling your work day accordingly.

At the end of the day, mindfulness is a powerful technique used to effectively cope with anxiety. This is a tool that will take some practice but will be very rewarding with time. Other ways that you can cope with anxiety is to plan a period of time just for you in the day, to do with whatever you please with no interruptions allowed. If stressful events crop up during the day, you can dissuade panic from setting in by reminding yourself your relaxation time and reward will be well enjoyed. If you are finding that even simple changes to your lifestyle are not enough to keep anxiety at bay, you may want to consider stronger treatments such as Valium. Many Americans today are turning to Valium and other anti-anxiety medications to assist them in coping with the stresses and anxiety of our fast paced society. If you have been having problems coping with anxiety, talk to your doctor about what treatment or coping mechanism would be best for you.
