How To Create A Look That Works For You

 By

Photo: timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Fashion is a funny thing and at times may seem fickle and unfriendly.
The media and celebrity culture we live in can easily influence you into trends that aren't flattering for your lifestyle or body type.

Or perhaps you refuse this pressure, get annoyed or overwhelmed, causing you to abandon or ignore trends that may enhance your appearance, comfort or personal style?
Composition and Color are keys to lasting wardrobe happiness and finding a look that works for YOU.
I will write about Color next time...
But, today I will focus on Composition. Or, in other words; how things are put together.
Whatever your experience, I encourage you to read on and challenge you to make one of these styling tips your own.

1. Balance the top and bottom fit of your clothing.
Wearing loose fitting bottoms; maxi skirt, lounge pants, etc... is a great way to be comfortable and stylish. But be sure to pair with a fitted top, as wearing a baggy top with loose bottoms can easily go from comfy to frumpy!

Or perhaps you're feeling like you want to cover up a bit more and wear a tunic or oversized blouse. This can actually be a very chic look if you are sure to skip the baggy bottoms and instead combine with leggings, yoga pants, fitted jeans or skinny skirt.

2. Pick the correct skirt length to flatter your body type.
As I see it there are three no-fail choices depending on your shape.

a. at mid-thigh
b. at the knee bend
c. at the floor

I see A LOT of skirts and dresses that stop right above the knee.
Hear this: The "just above the knee" look that is flattering on few! It throws off the proportion of your leg making you knees look thicker.
The other length I see a lot of is mid-calf. It, too, confuses the body's proportions regardless of your height.
My advice?
Go all the way to the floor (the shorter you are the slimmer the skirt should be). OR... go up to your knee bend, gently covering your knee cap. This is a pretty length on most of us.
The guide is slightly different for shorts, jeans or capris. But, be sure to pay attention to how the different lengths affect your look overall.

And, remember - unless you have a perfect bod - the just above the knee length rarely works well.
Also, when picking a jean or trouser length, consider if they are going to be dressy or casual. Meaning... worn with high heels or flats?
Generally, having a continual vertical line from top to bottom is important to a stylish appearance. Pants that stop at the ankle or back of the heel are not ideal.
Jeans and all full length (non-skinny) bottoms should just barely graze the ground as you stand in bare feet. Once flat shoes are on, the shoe sole will give enough distance from the floor to prevent wear and tear.
3. The wrong shoe height can ruin an outfit.
As I mention above, if your pant (or skirt) just grazes the ground when you are in bare feet, the correct heel height is FLAT.
If you are going to wear high heels with a skirt, dress, flared or bootleg trouser, you will look best when the length of the clothing piece goes all the way to the floor.
I often see skirts and pants that have a shorter length suitable with flats, worn with high heels. The only time this works is with skinny jeans.
And a word about the continuing popularity of maxi-skirts. Their fit is meant to be grazing the floor in bare feet and worn with flats.

I hope you can draw from these three style principles.
The main thing is to not think you are doing it "wrong." All of this is guidance for the path you are on.
I am forever trying things that don't suit me, and remembering what does work!
We're in this together...
Start with integrating only ONE of these suggestions. Preferably, whatever is easiest in working with the clothes you already have.

The Benefits of Good Observation Skills

 By

Photo: farm.pixosphere.com

As part of my training, one of my teachers had me spend an entire day doing nothing but observing from early morning to evening. I had to sit in a field all day long without moving my body -- he told me to just move my eyes very slowly from side to side.
What was I observing? What direction is the wind coming from? Does that cloud seem to contain any large amounts of moisture? Is it dark on the underside and light on top? If so, perhaps it's going to rain.
If you see birds flying, are they circling or going in a straight line? Are they water birds flying to where there might be some water? If you're looking for water, perhaps you should head in that direction.
There didn't have to be any particular significance to all the things I observed -- the point was not to let anything escape my awareness, to master the difference between looking and seeing.
When you see any kind of a movement, don't turn your head quickly, just move your eyes slowly to one side. If you turn your head too quickly the little animal or bird sitting on a tree limb is going to fly away. If you are motionless they feel that you are not harmful -- they accept you and come in close.
I discovered that the peripheral part of your viewing space can catch movement more readily than looking straight ahead. You also listen for the sounds of the area. Did you hear a cow? Did it have a bell, was it lowing? Did you hear a horse snort? If you can register in your mind all the sounds common to your area, you can immediately pick up on anything unusual.
You can also apply these observation skills in the city, where it may be even more important to stay alert. As you walk down the street, observe from one corner to the other side of the street. Is it safe? Are there any people or situations which look dangerous to you? Being aware of everything going on around you can save your life.
I went out to the field on my own many times because I felt I had missed things and wasn't satisfied with my own performance. My teacher didn't tell me to go back out -- he started me off but then I continued on my own every so often.
I used to go to the zoo and stare at the tigers. A tiger would look at me and I'd look back at him. I don't know how long I'd stand there, but I was determined not to look away first -- I kept looking until the tiger finally looked away. I guess the barrier between us gave me some kind of confidence but at the same time I felt I was making eye contact with a hostile animal -- he represented that to me. From there I'd go to a lion and do the same thing. I had a lot of fun doing that and no one could tell what I was doing, it just looked like I was standing there watching the animals.
Eventually I gave the tiger commands, not verbally, but in my mind. I would project the thought, "Turn away. Turn away right now. Turn." He was very stubborn but he would eventually turn and I kept doing it until the time it took him to turn away got shorter and shorter. I got training in using the power of my mind just like that. I did this on my own in my late twenties -- neither Dave nor Daniel suggested it.
We can apply observation to almost any walk of life. I used to teach salesmanship to handicapped people at Goodwill Industries. I would give them an orange and ask them to describe it to me and invariably all they would say was that it was orange in color and round.
"What else can you see on it?"
"That's about all."
"Your observation is very limited. You can tell where it had hung to a stem on the limb. You can even see the pores on the skin and certain streaks and discolorations. Learn to observe. What do you know about your product? What size is it? How heavy is it? What does it do? What is it's capacity?"
They thought they had seen all they could and yet as they kept trying they could come up with more. As time went on they were able to do a lot more selling and what helped me teach them was not going to a school for salesmanship. I learned just by observing out there in the country in Oklahoma and I taught them to do it, too.
If you don't think observation is all that hard, try to sit still for 20 minutes. If your nose itches, don't scratch it. If your leg cramps, don't stretch it. These are some of the things you have to contend with in observation. It's a far-reaching training that enables you to take in a whole situation in seconds.
After college I went into the army where I taught hand to hand combat -- how to maim a person, killing blows, how to disarm a person coming at you with a gun or knife. It was a fight for survival, a fight to kill.
All in all, I didn't feel too good about some of the things I had to teach, but when I made the vow to protect our country at all costs, it included that. Maybe with a gun it might have been different -- you're distanced from your victim -- but hand to hand didn't set too well with me so, even though I was good at it, I tried to find other ways to fit in.
Eventually I had the opportunity to apply for Intelligence and I went through a battery of tests until it was narrowed down to five of us. For our last test we were to have an interview with the General. We all sat in the outer office waiting for our turn to go in one by one. I was next to the last to go in.
"Tell me how many pieces of furniture in the outer office."
I told him right away.
"Where was the desk?"
I told him, as well as where the chair was.
"Anything on the desk other than paperwork?"
"Yes, there were some dried up dandelions in the pot on the right hand corner."
"Was there anything on the walls?"
"Yes, two pictures. One was of Washington and it needed straightening up, Sir."
"O.K. Next one."
That was our test -- whether we observed anything out there. I was the only one of that five to be chosen.
That is one of the great teachings I received from my training back in Oklahoma, being taught by a man that I don't believe went beyond seventh grade in school. He said, "It's one thing to live a long time -- it's another thing to learn something in that space of time. You've been given the gift of life -- don't just become an old man, learn something."

What Is Self Confidence and Why Do Only Some Have It?

 By

Photo: vindicarlo.com

The socio-psychological concept of self-confidence relates to self-assuredness in one's personal judgment, ability and power. WHAT! I"m sorry, all I got from that was blah blah blah blah.
Confidence or Self-Confidence are intertwined concepts - put simply, it's just being really comfortable with who you are.
Building confidence is a necessary exercise for many of us. Self-confidence does not come naturally to people at all. It's either something our parents nurtured us to accept as a natural part of ourselves when we were growing up or it's something our Rock Star mentors who we absolutely adored demonstrated, or it's something we worked really hard to develop as an adult. Particularly when we were old enough and smart enough to realise it was just getting to a point of becoming that person we really wanted to be. If you like, the best of who we are more often and really comfortable with that person.
We're all dealt different hands in this life and the hand you were dealt fits into the 'so what' basket, because all that matters is what you do with the hand you have. Like Kenny Rogers said "You've gotta know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away and know when to run!" People who are already confident certainly know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away and know when to run. There are some massive lessons to be learnt there so let's dissect this a little and have a bit of fun with the words from this song.
"Know When to Hold Em'"
Learning to stand your ground and speaking up for yourself when it matters to you is a really good start to building your own level of confidence, but you must learn how to do this in a way that gets your message across clearly to the other person without being abusive.
"Know When to Fold Em'"
With confidence comes the ability to know when to 'let it go'. Self assured or self confident people don't need to be right all the time and in fact they may give the grace of being right to another person even when they're not right! Why? Because self confident people don't need to be right, to feel right. That's the bottom line.
"Know When to Walk Away & Know When to Run"
Sometimes we find ourselves in a situation (i.e an abusive relationship) or simply just a relationship that we know we're not happy in. This is absolutely one of the greatest tests I have seen in terms of a persons true level of self-confidence. To be truly confident you must not only know when to walk away, but sometimes, absolutely know when to run! And there is certainly a whole other topic in that last sentence which we will leave for another time, because I'm sure you get the sentiment of the key message here.
Lastly, I just want you to remember that the confident person/s that you've seen, met or admired were not given additional credits at birth that you missed out on but they have developed it during their lifetime in one way or another. And if he or she can do it, so can you. No one particular person in this world is special, but we are all unique and absolutely all a bunch of SexyBastards that's for sure. If ever you're doubting your individual appeal or attractiveness... don't.

How To Successfully Change Your Thought Patterns

By

Photo: odewire.com

It has also been scientifically proven that our thoughts directly influence our lives and there is a wealth of information that can be found warning every one of the dangers of thinking negatively, and rightly so! Your thoughts affect your current health, your successes in life, your relationships, your finances, they influence everything. Your current reality is a mirror of the beliefs and thoughts you hold. Just by changing the way you think, you can change your life.
You have infinite power within you to influence your results and you would be naïve not to harness this power. Researchers have shown us that we have on average between 50 000 to 70000 thoughts a day! How many of those thoughts are empowering you and how many of those thoughts are limiting you? It becomes clearer every day that positive thinking is not a sheer luxury but a must if you want to feel fulfilled and happier in life.
The results you have in your life now are come from your past thoughts. Very often, past thoughts become a vicious cycle in undermining current and future results. For example, imagine you are struggling in your business, you are not aware but every second thought you have is something like `I will never be successful` or `my business is going to collapse in a few months´ or ´I am a failure, I knew it´. What really plays out now is that your thoughts connect to emotions, bad thoughts leads to bad feelings and you act on your feelings. In this example, the business owner would make very different business decisions and take very different actions depending if he felt positive or not.
Unfortunately, because he believes he will fail, he will most likely fail and he will mostly think that he was right too to be negative, which then reinforces this false belief and the cycle continues.
Because our thoughts are on automatic, most of the time we are not even aware we are having them. The first step is to become aware of the types of limiting thoughts you often have. Once you are aware of how many negative thoughts you have, you want to start to change the neurological patterns that have been formed. The more of the same thought you have, the more energy you are giving it and the more you are reinforcing that thought pattern. The neurons group and come together and are then more prominent in your awareness.
Simple Steps To Successfully Change Your Thought Patterns
• Identify - First you want to identify and acknowledge what types of thoughts you regularly have
• Awareness - The next steps is to create awareness around the thought. You want to understand where this thought/belief originates from. For all your negative thoughts, ask yourself if this is a belief or is it a fact, if it is a belief, how will you change it to empower you now?
• Replace - Now you want to replace this thought to one that is positive and will empower you.
• Repetition - You want to repeat the new thought in your mind so that now you are redirecting your energy to a positive thought and you are creating a new pattern.
Every time you think that thought, you are reinforcing it.
You need to repeatedly re-direct your thoughts to the positive one every time. The substance that keeps the associated thoughts together doesn't have unlimited supply so the good news is that after a lot of repetition, the old neurons start to disconnect and the new positive thought patterns replace it.
Change does not happen overnight and unfortunately, there is no magic pill you can take to see results instantaneously. It takes effort, time, commitment and perseverance, but with anything in life, these are the key ingredients to successfully make the changes and achieve what we desire.
You can also try:
• Distancing - this is when you just let your thoughts slip past you without giving too much attention to them at all.
• When you are aware that you are thinking negatively, tell the voice in your head ¨to shut up¨ or ¨sshh¨
• Do something active - If you feel like you are in a negative thinking rut and you can´t refocus, starting moving and do something active, this will help you to be distracted and change your focus for awhile.

Why Do I Suffer So Much by the Behaviors of Others?

 By

Photo: static.guim.co.uk

Carl Yung, one of the pioneers of psychoanalytical therapy, stated "Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves." How we react to an external person or situation is based on a word called transference. Transference is a natural process of how we all make sense of our world. We are constantly sensing and judging our environment based on all our previous experiences.
Even before we are born, our brain is already making distinctions of external cues, laying the foundations of what is considered safe and what in not. Once we are born, we are exposed to many experiences that our brain interprets and stores in memory. The amount of variation in experiences is virtually infinite; however, too simplify we can look at some basic differences that all humans encounter. Dr. Pamela Hays using the ADDRESSING model to help describe cultural influences as a multidimensional combination of Age, Developmental and acquired Disabilities, Religion, Ethnicity, Socioeconomic status, Sexual orientation, Indigenous heritage, National origin, and Gender.
When we react very positively to another person or situation or react very negatively, the reason has nothing to do with the object or situation outside of us and everything to do with what is going on inside of us. In the United States, our general cultural belief is a need to make sense out of everything we encounter as soon as possible - this makes us feel safe. Moreover, whether we have all the information or very little, most of us will come to a definite conclusion. Unfortunately, when little information is known we have an almost instinctive response to fill in the missing information with our transference. In essence, we complete someone's or something's story based on our experiences. The use of past experiences to explain current situations is the most basic definition of transference.
Much of the time we focus our attention on negative transference, "I am pissed off because my boss talks to me like I am his/her teenage child!" However, transference can be completely positive, "Wow I find that man/woman extremely sexy." When working with my clients, having them recognize the source of his or her reactions is difficult. I explain that this journey of discovery is not meant to condemn or codon others behavior. Simply, understanding why he or she is reacting to the external person or event can cause dramatic shifts in brain functioning and relief from suffering. For example, if a client is in an anxious or depressed state because of the way his or her boss is talking to them, we can begin to look at what it mean to the client if in fact the boss is being an asshole.
I will often ask "if your boss is talking to you this way, then what does that mean to you?" More times than not the client will respond by saying, "it means my boss has no respect for me and that pisses me off!" When looking deeper I will ask "if your boss has no respect for you, then what would that mean?" This goes on for a few moments, while the client really processes what it means to them to not have the respect of his or her boss. At some point, everyone comes to the conclusion that others treating them poorly led to a triggered response that indicates his or her self-worth is being challenged. "If he does not respect me, then he must not think I am worth anything... it means that maybe I am not worthy of respect... or he thinks I am lazy... I am not smart enough... I am not good enough... or I have to have everyone respect and appreciation for me to be OK with myself."
Most of us have come to rely heavily on the opinions of others to support our self-esteem. I often ask clients to respond to the following question. "When I am at peace, I thing... I feel... and I want? After years of asking this question the most commonly report answers are "When I am at peace I think clearly, I feel content, and I want nothing." Explaining the "why" of other's behavior and language is impossible, because of the multiple influences of the ADDRESSING model, I encourage my clients to rely on the simple three questions to discover the one simple answer. If we can safely assume that a person at peace is a clear thinker, feels content, and wants nothing, then a person that is negative, aggressive, mean, rude, crude, obnoxious, is most liking "suffering" and not at peace.
By understanding our own transference we can quickly see how others are doing the same thing. Soon the need to react or defend ourselves can be replaced with empathy, compassion, and curiosity to what is going on with the other person (the nasty boss... who is obviously suffering on some level).
To your mental health my friends!

What Is Positive Thinking or a Positive Mindset?

 By

Photo: inspiredtunisiangirl.blogspot.com

What is Positive Thinking?
Simply, positive thinking is the opposite of negative thinking. Positive thinking might take place in your mind, when you feel happy or when you have achieved something you have been wanting to achieve for a while. It's a little voice in your head (the one that's reading these words), that can put us in a more positive frame of mind on a day-to-day basis as we go about our lives.
Positive thinking is also one way a person can experience the feelings of positive emotions such as joy, happiness, excitement.
It may also put a smile on our faces and a bounce in our step, and make us look forward to things more.
Whether one has positive thoughts or negative thoughts, our minds are occupied with thoughts and depending on some factors, for some, positive thinking occurs more often than for others. But the great thing is that positive thinking is a skill that can be taught, learned, practiced and mastered such as you would be taught sports, practice music, learn a new language or master a subject.
Positive thinking can also become a Mind Set which is the next level of just having positive thoughts from time to time. A Positive Mind Set is such that the majority of your thoughts will be positive. And again for some people, the opposite may be true, but through proven steps, tools and practice, anyone can reprogram their mind to counteract negative thoughts and a negative mindset.
Why positive thinking?
Positive thinking is valuable to us in many ways. For example, if you're competing in a cross country or marathon event at a sports day, and you're running and running, feeling like your legs are going to collapse under you and your stitch will kill you,... you feel weak, muscles are melting, your lungs feel like they're going to burst and every step is agony. Like many top sports people do, they will use positive thinking to push through, not just to get over the finishing line, but to win. A positive mindset is also referred to as a "Winner's Mind Set".
Who wouldn't want that?
And as we have established, positive thinking is the opposite of negative thinking. Negative thinking is the other voice or even other voices in our heads that might tell us we are stupid when we make mistakes or fail at something. Negative thinking can mentally paralyse some people too and stop us from asking for what we really want in our lives. For others, it might make them worry about things that may or may not happen.
With a positive mindset, you end up making better decisions, feel good and generally function better in life.
Positive thinking fuels positive energy which is a much higher and lighter energy than negative thinking and negative energy which is heavier and brings you down.
Imagine you are invited to go to a party or an event and you think negative thoughts such as,
"I won't go, no one will like me; I hate those people anyway"
Do you think you would be getting off to a good start to make new friends let alone a good impression? In fact you probably will end up not even going.
What if you went into it thinking
"How fun, new outfit!! I'll wear my new shoes!! All these new people I can get to know (or get to know me) I'm going to have so much fun!"
Which mindset do you think is going to end up having more energy and who do you think will actually go, stay and meet new friends at the party?
Positive thinking is not... about lying to yourself, or being fake. It's important to be realistic and truthful. Your brain will know if you aren't being authentic.
In order to begin thinking positive and living a life from a positive mindset, we have to start noticing positive things that occur all day long. This is being "conscious".
Being conscious is being aware of the thoughts you have, both positive and negative. It is also about noticing what's going on around you and how you internally react to these things and then translate and digest them into being positive or negative.
So to develop your positive thinking skills, beginning with being conscious is important. This is so you can really differentiate between negative and positive thoughts as they occur.
Thanks for taking the time to read, please let me know your (positive or negative) thoughts.

3 Ways to Become a More Optimistic Person

 By

Photo: 30.media.tumblr.com

Are you a pessimist? Do you have a tendency to expect the worst to happen? Although a pessimistic attitude may seem to be an unchangeable character trait, one, in fact, can make a choice between pessimism and optimism. There are practical self-improvement techniques to make it easier to develop a positive attitude and undo lifelong habits of pessimism. This article will present three ways to help you become more optimistic.
Optimists have an outlook on life that is generally more positive and they know and value hope. Studies show that pessimists give up more easily and get depressed more often. Optimists, on the other hand, have superior stress management skills and do better in school and at work. Evidence suggests that optimists may even live longer. These are compelling reasons to become more optimistic!
One way to help convert from pessimism to optimism is to practice looking for the silver lining in problems. Optimists tend to look for the positives in situations that don't work out while pessimists use those same situations to reinforce their expectations of failure. Do you have a tendency to magnify the negative aspects of a situation and overlook any positive ones? Rather than automatically focusing on the worst, take a second look to see if there are any positive aspects in a difficult situation.
Don't wait for a problem to happen but start now to get into the habit of seeing positives in every situation. Additionally, make an effort to create some experiences of happiness. Brief, happy moments can help strengthen your sense that life can be good and you can draw on these feelings in more difficult times.
A second way to create more optimism is to review your past accomplishments. Identify your top five personal and work-related accomplishments and the strengths you used to achieve them. Use this review to affirm for yourself that you are capable and competent. Apply the confidence gained from reviewing your strengths and accomplishments to increase your optimism in your capabilities to impact the future.
A third way to increase optimism is to watch your language! The words we use help to create and shape our reality. Avoid negative self-talk - stop using phrases such as "I can't" and "This will never work." Challenge your negative self-talk and turn these statements into questions such as "How can I handle this?" and "What can I do?'. Not only are these questions more hopeful, they invite new options and possibilities.
Pay special attention to how you talk to yourself and make a concentrated effort to treat yourself as well as you would treat a friend or loved one. Don't say anything to yourself that you wouldn't say to anyone else. Be gentle and encouraging with yourself. When a negative thought enters your mind, turn it around to something to something more positive.
In conclusion, there are specific techniques you can use to convert from a pessimistic attitude to a more optimistic one. These techniques include highlighting the positive; using your past accomplishments and strengths to fuel your optimism in the future; and deliberately replacing negative self-talk with more positive messages.
As with changing any habit, it may take practice to defeat pessimism but your self-development efforts will prove worthwhile as you gain the positive health and social benefits of optimism.

Trust Your Gut - It Will Make All the Difference

By

"You have to trust in something: your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life." Steve Jobs
When I lost my job in October of 2010, I had a choice: I could pound the pavement, searching for a new sales job (and probably find one that was pretty decent), or I could pursue dreams that were on my goal list in May of 1989 - to become a professional speaker and published author. Even though it was very scary, I decided to trust my gut and go for it. Though the road was difficult and the challenges many, that single decision has profoundly impacted every area of my life for the good.
Think about what happened to Steve Jobs after a very public firing from Apple Computer. Instead of wallowing in despair and disappearing from the public eye, he went on to create several businesses including Pixar and NeXT. He produced innovative products and eventually was rehired at Apple where he revolutionized technology with the development of iTunes, the iPod, iPad, and the improvement of the Apple line of computers.
JK Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series was fired from her job as a secretary because she was taking too much time off to write her books. Her former boss was quoted as saying, "We made the right decision to sack her, and I wouldn't be surprised to see her come crawling back here for her old job once this Harry Potter thing blows over." JK Rowling trusted her instinct to pursue something that she loved, even though it cost her a job, she went for it anyway. Do you think her d changed her life, just a little?
If you got caught up in the economic downturn and are currently on the job market, are you searching to do the 'same old, same old' thing, or is it time to trust your gut and try something else? If the doors you are trying to enter keep closing on you, and you're not having success, you may want to step back and reconsider if you are on the right path to being with. This may end up being the ideal time to 'kick it up a notch' and make a dramatic change.
What would you like to do but "can't?" What excuses are you using? What's holding you back? Take a moment, right now, and imagine what life would be like if you achieved your dreams. What would it look like? How would it feel? Who would you share it with? Where would you live? Experience the emotion of your success. Do you believe it can happen now? If not, do you believe that I believe in you?
Trust my belief in you and take a baby step towards your dream. Every step gets easier and before you know it, you're there. Congratulations!
Have fun,
Lisa
If you're still making excuses for all the reasons you can't move forward, I only have two words for you - STOP IT!!!

How to Stop Being Embarrassed

 By

Photo: badbreathremedycenter.com

We all make mistakes, simply put, it's part of being human. It can be quite embarrassing sometimes to make even the smallest mistakes in front of people, especially ones we care particularly about what they think about us. Here is some advice about how to stop being embarrassed.
Realize we are ALL only human, and make mistakes.
Think about a time when you have seen somebody else make an embarrassing mistake. Were they embarrassed, too? They probably were, even if they did not show it. If every single person in the same room as you were embarrassed, and they told you, you probably would not feel at least just a little less embarrassed, knowing that they all are feeling the same way as you. Everybody has been there, and most of the time, people are not judging you the way you think they are, just like you are probably not judging them the way they think you may be.
Embrace who you are.
One great thing about the human race is the fact that, although we are all a lot alike, we are all so different. We all have our own likes and dislikes. We all have our own quirks and habits. If you feel embarrassed about something that is a part of who you are, whether it is physical, mental, behavioral, or anything else, embrace the fact that because of the fact that it is different, it is unique.
What you may find embarrassing, may actually be really cool to somebody else, and, in most cases, you are not alone and somebody out there is probably going through the same thing as you are. It may help to find or even start a group or club for people with the same thing. If there truly is no one out there, then that makes you even more special and unique, and you should take that as a good thing. Remember, you could really rise above this difference by educating people about it, and who knows, you may help some one else who is in your shoes.
Educate yourself
If you are embarrassed about something that you are not that familiar with, do some research. If you are reading this, chances are that you are already starting to get over your embarrassment. You may not feel it yet, but I hope through doing research and learning, you will very soon. The more you know about something, like a medical condition, for example, the less you may feel embarrassed about it. You may find that it's a lot more common than you thought, which tends to make things a little less embarrassing, knowing that many other people have gone through or are going through the same thing as you are.
Don't forget, that to educate others so that they may understand you, you must educate yourself so that you may understand you.
There will always be times when you really feel stupid, ashamed, or embarrassed, but by following some of my advice, hopefully you won't feel that horrible feeling as much or as strongly. Hopefully you now know how to stop being embarrassed.

Few Good Methods Adopted By Great Personalities For Self Improvement

By:

Photo: static.guim.co.uk

The maximum number of years a man lives on the earth can go up to 150 years. However, the average expected life span of a human body is somewhere between eighty and ninety years. Therefore, we can say that everyone who is born, is destined to die some day. So what is the best possible way to live a perfect life? When I say perfect, it means something like a perfect model that is most commonly used in Economics. In Economics, a perfect model is used for various aspects. And from whatever little knowledge I possess, I can say that these perfect models are more like assumptions that we have in life. So we might get a thought as to what can these assumptions be. This is quite simple to understand when I say so.

These assumptions are mainly laid depending on the goal you want to achieve. Say, for example, a doctor wants to become a better doctor. To become a good doctor what are the qualities that are required. Hence here we get a perfect model for existence. The perfect model assumes all the good qualities or the best qualities to define a good doctor. What happens here is that all of these qualities are listed and you can be confident that if a doctor has all these qualities he is a perfect doctor or he can become the best doctor.

However, if we think a little deep on this concept, we know all these are assumptions to become perfect. Why are these assumptions laid? It is for doctors to keep in mind, that if he or she acquires all these listed qualities, he is now eligible to compete to become the best doctor in the world. Similar is the case for an engineer or anybody for that matter. This principle can be used in every aspect in life today. Believe me it just works out for a person to always become better. However, the same principle can be used for us to improve ourselves in our personal life as well. The best way to do this is to think for ourselves, and if everybody tries to do this, the world would become a better place to live in. You can find success and happiness everywhere. At times these things might be very simple to look at. While in practice sometimes it becomes complicated and requires a lot of effort doing so.

This line of thought has been developed by great people, who have achieved their lifetime awards. Be it a musician, or a politician and you can state many names who have achieved things in life. Today, with the help of internet, we get all the information about some of these great personalities. I sometimes sit to read about them featuring on my internet offered by Verizon FiOS Bundles. And most of the times, I have found that all these great personalities that we talk about today have had a set of guidelines to improve their personalities. And that's one of the main differences between a common man and great personality. So if we really want to improve ourselves, it is very simple. Read some of their autobiographies and jot down the qualities that they have you think you can follow. Now it is time for you to practice them one by one. For people in the corporate world, these kinds of activities are just another idea to improve your process. It is the same way we input an idea to improve our personal qualities to attain those leadership skills that our people have achieved in their lifetime. All it requires is a little effort to achieve in our own areas of specialization.

Being Self-Confident - How to Remove Insecurities

By

Photo: 2.bp.blogspot.com

Self-confidence is necessary to live a fun and joyous life. With self-confidence you can take on new challenges without the need to hold back, you can express yourself fully and completely, and you can make mistakes without tearing yourself a part.
But if you lack self-confidence then you know firsthand how difficult it can be to step out of your comfort zone and into a new or different endeavor.
However, it can be done. Learn how to remove insecurities from your life and experience a joy you never knew existed.
Here are three steps to help you remove insecurities from your life.
- Take baby steps everyday that take you out of your comfort zone. Do whatever that means to you. If you have a hard time looking people in the eye then look at least three people in the eye today.
If you feel uncomfortable speaking up for yourself even though you know your right then voice your opinion at least once today.
- Develop a deep loving acceptance for yourself. Don't allow yourself to call yourself names or to put yourself down even if you make a mistake.
If you catch yourself doing either of these two things immediately say the words "cancel, cancel" this will help you stop the self-abuse even if your mid sentence or mid thought.
- Repeat loving statements to yourself every time you think about it. Don't force yourself to repeat affirmations if it feels like a drag and like something you have to do or else.
Just say loving and caring things to yourself throughout the day every time the urge presents its self. Now if the urge never does then you will have to make yourself do it in the beginning but once you do it enough times it becomes habit.
Bad habits and good habits are formed in the same manner. It's just easier to stick with bad habits because you don't have to think about it much.
Being self-confident is really about being loving and accepting of yourself. If you love and accept yourself completely for who you are then you'll act the part and others will treat you accordingly.
You show people how to treat you by the way you treat yourself. You cannot tell someone to treat you with love, honesty, and respect if you don't do it yourself.
Think about that the next time you say something negative or unkind about yourself. Would you want someone else to say that to you? Then don't do it yourself.
What you think about yourself is just as important as what others think of you. Actually it's more important.
Being self-confident is about removing all your insecurities by taking it one step at a time.

The Best Ever Tips For Self Motivation In Life

 By:

 Photo: selfexceed.com

Motivation is the process of directing ones focus, concentration, skill, and talent towards attaining a common task or goal. The motivation can come from an internal or external source. The former is the technique of motivating by self and is also called as Self motivation. External motivation refers to the influence of an external source or factor to motivate an individual in accomplishing a task or goal. Without proper motivation, no one can succeed in life. In order to be successful in life, one needs to have a proper vision, has to dream big, must be hungry for success, must be able to stand on his or her own leg under any circumstance, and must be willing to accept pain.

One who doesn't have proper motivation in life ends up being the loser while the one that is motivated becomes the winner. Turning weakness into strength is very important. When a loser says, "I can't handle it", a winner says "I can and will do it". Losers are the ones that are always waiting for ideal conditions in life. But practically speaking, there are no ideal conditions in life. Winners have always succeeded in adverse conditions; they don't wait for the ideal condition in life. A winner translates dreams into reality whereas a loser translates reality into dreams.

I would like to bring up a popular quote that goes like this, "Positive thinking makes things possible". But the fact is positive thought alone doesn't guarantee success. It's only positive thinking when combined with efforts that takes you closer to success. Negative thinking only induces fear in your mind and ultimately decreases the probability of winning.

I would like to share an interesting story that I happened to read on the websites while I was surfing with my high-speed Internet connection powered by Verizon FiOS Internet. I hope all of you remember the great boxing legend Muhammad Ali. Even when he was new to professional boxing, he always got in to the ring with a great amount of positive thinking. He used to say 'I am the greatest, I am the champion'. He never doubted his abilities. He believed in himself, believed in his efforts and had only positive thoughts in his mind. When Ali looked at his opponent who held the title, he said, "You may have the title but I'm the champion". But he just didn't become a champion by saying so. He fine-tuned his mind and believed that he was the champion. Even when he was practicing, he used to say, 'I am the champion' literally every time he punched the bag. And he did become the champion one day. No wonder, his name glitters in golden letters in the history of professional boxing!

Winners put in that extra effort even when it hurts. A wrestling champion once said while practicing he felt so exhausted that he wanted to give up. But, for a moment he thought what his opponent would be doing. He pictured his opponent practicing harder for the title. So, he went back into more practice. After a long practice session, he could not take it anymore. Again, he thought for a moment what his opponent would be doing. This time, he pictured his opponent in the shower. Guess what he did? He went for more practice to get that extra edge. He was so hungry for that title and finally emerged victorious in the match!

Winners don't do different things, they do things differently. They put in that extra effort even when it hurts. Winners make the days count whereas losers count the days. Losers are the ones that always come up with a slew of excuses. You would have heard people say that they didn't have enough time to finish or that they ran out of time. That's not true; that's the excuse they give to their failure.
I would like to conclude with a quote.

"There's is nothing more powerful for self-motivation than the right attitude. You can't choose or control your circumstance, but can choose your attitude towards your circumstances". So, that's about it, friends. That's the importance of motivation in life. Find something to motivate you during difficult times; you will definitely reach great heights in life. Good luck!

How A Positive Attitude Leads to A Positive Outcome

By

Photo: thepassionatewarrior.com

It's easy to believe that life has a vendetta against us. When we believe that life is out to get us, suddenly everything goes wrong. But that's not true. Why would life spend all of its energy just destroying one person's life? It's not life that's out to get you, it's you that's out to get you.
Once you realize that it's through your own negative thinking that all of these bad circumstances happen, then there's a hope of improvement in your lifestyle. The power of positive thinking is emphasized over and over through many of the greatest self-help books, and through what some call the "Law of Attraction". But let's not get into the Law of Attraction. Let's just focus on improving your outlook on life.
Here are three ways that are easy to start with.
1. Get a "gratitude" rock
A gratitude rock is just a normal rock, but what it does is remind you to think of something that you're grateful for every time you see it. You keep it in your pocket at all time, and every time you see it, whether your drop it or are emptying out your pockets, you have to think of at least one thing you're grateful for. That's it. Believe it or not, just this small step can immediately change your outlook on life into a more positive light.
2. Delete the word "can't" from your dictionary.
Every time you say the word, "can't", you are inhibiting yourself from being something greater. "Can't" just translates to laziness. Who are you to tell yourself that you "can't" do something? Who is anyone to tell you that you "can't" do something. No one, not even you, knows that. And with people landing on the moon and turning lightning into an power source, there's not much support backing up what you "can't" do. Give it a shot, and try and try again until you "can" accomplish whatever it is that you can accomplish. Failure is just the first step to success.
3. Focus on what you want rather than what you don't want
You're probably used to spending all your time focusing on things you don't want... like bills. But the more you focus on the things you don't want, the more depress and lethargic you're going to get. Why not focus on the things that you do want, like a bigger TV, or a lot more money. Now the trick to this is once you envision more money or that new gadget, don't think of all the ways you can't get it. Don't focus on how financial strapped you are because that'll ruin the whole point of step 3. If you just focus on what you want without any "can't, won't, buts", then you'll feel a sensation of joy. It's euphoric. The big emphasis is not focusing on what you don't want. When that happens, magic happens, and suddenly your mind comes up with ways on how you can get what you want without too much of a hassle.
Just follow these three steps and you'll have a much more positive attitude on life. With that positive attitude, a positive change will come into your life.

How to Start Balancing Your Life Instantly

Photo: 3.bp.blogspot.com
Stress can be caused if your life is ‘off balance.' When life is busy and keeping track of time is difficult, it is easy to find yourself not being able to focus on elements of your life which are important to you. Taking a bird's eye view, your time and life becomes a parasol spinning, making you unable to focus your energy on the roles you play in life. The template I am about to show you will help you balance you life by considering each area in your life and giving you a visual representation of the way your life is at the moment. It will highlight to you the area which you have less influence in and the area you have more control and involvement in.

BALANCING YOUR LIFE ‘CIRCLE OF LIFE'
The template is very easy to use and can be used for a diverse of issues and self improvement areas. The template as shown below consists of a circle divided into 8 sections; this can be increased and decreased depending on how many areas your life focuses on. Each section is contains numbers, 1 starting from the centre moving outwards to the edge up to 10.

1. Begin with writing down a list of key areas of life that are important to you such as family, friends, careers, education, finances, fitness, health etc, and then within each key area write down what vital roles you play, e.g. mother/father, husband/wife, sister/brother, friend, employee, colleague, manager etc.
2. Each area along with the roles place around the edges of the ‘circle of life.'
3. Consider each section in turn and rank then 1 (low) - 10 (high) in relation to how much time and attention you devote to that area or role.
4. Join up the numbers around the circle.
5. Highlight the areas which you either spend too much or too little time and attention on. Just an additional point, having a balanced life does not mean the same number value for each role and key area as the focus and attention for some may vary. You need to highlight whether you are under or overcompensating in an area.
6. On a separate ‘circle of life' write down the same sections again however plot your ideal scores. This will be your aim, your action plan.
7. The last thing to do once the areas have been identified is plan for actions that can be done to balance your life.

In areas which take up too much of your time and attention, what can you cut down on? Is there anything unnecessary that you are involved in? Is there a simpler activity that can be done to make life easier?
Cutting down and finding new easier and less time consuming activities within these areas will mean that you will get chance to have more involvement and participation in the areas that have been neglected.

Completing this activity is not half the battle because unfortunately the hardest part is putting this plan into action.

Want Success? Think Positive

Photo: orvilleparker.com
"A man is but the product of his thoughts … what he thinks, he becomes."
-Mahatma Gandhi.

Whatever happens in your life is the result of what thoughts pass through your mind. Your thoughts, good or bad, pass into your subconscious mind and greatly influence your behavior and produce similar results. But unfortunately most of us are not even aware of the unlimited power of thoughts. Good, positive thoughts lead to pleasant, happy experiences and negative thinking produces unhappy and unfavorable results. In short, as your thoughts are, so is your life.

"The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible."
- Anonymous

Generally we just let our mind run wild. We hardly pay attention to the results we are creating with our thoughts. Usually most people engage their mind with thoughts of fears, dangers, frustrations, and anger. All these thoughts then sink into the subconscious mind and lead to situations that produce negative energies and results.

Our thoughts are like a DVD which we constantly play in the DVD player called our mind. Therefore what you play is eventually what you watch and experience in your life. After all, what you think, feel and speak is a powerful force which ultimately forms your future. So be careful of what you think throughout the day. It is difficult but not impossible to control our thoughts. Once you master the art of positive thinking, you will begin to see good changes in your attitude and life.

"Fear less, hope more; Eat less, chew more; Whine less, breathe more; Talk less, say more; Love more, and all good things will be yours"
-Swedish Proverb

If you are having trouble in personal finance, you are prone to letting your mind get clouded with doubts, worries, panic and thoughts of "I am in trouble". If on the other hand, you tell yourself that "I am rich because I have enough resources and capabilities to fulfill my needs and secure my future," you will find yourself becoming stronger and more convinced about facing your problems head on.

But if you keep telling yourself that you don't have enough money, the subconscious mind will register your thoughts and put obstacles in your way. So think positive. And always remember that your mind doesn't register the word 'no', or 'not'. So instead of saying "I am not weak", use positive affirmations and tell yourself, "I am strong".

"Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you'll start having positive results."
- Willie Nelson

Your words, your thoughts shape your life. So be aware of what you are thinking. When you consciously make effort to change your thought patterns and speech, you will notice how your life changes. Even the brightest of minds stress the importance of positive thoughts for personal development and overall success. And even the inspirational books, inspirational poems and motivational videos tell about how positive thinking is one of the success secrets from the beginning of time. Your life will become what you think about. It can be misery or bliss … all depending on your thoughts. So pay attention!

"You've done it before and you can do it now. See the positive possibilities. Redirect the substantial energy of your frustration and turn it into positive, effective, unstoppable determination."
- Ralph Marston

Stop Feeling Bad - For Good!

 By

Photo: media29.onsugar.com

Why do you want to stop feeling bad for good? My guess is that you've forgotten that all your feelings are trying to send you messages that are uniquely important for you. Especially those that make you feel bad.
Take a moment now and ask yourself whether this sounds more true than the idea that feeling bad is your enemy? That feeling bad is a problem or illness that you need to get rid of?
You see, few of us grew up being taught the true purpose and meaning of our feelings. In fact, many of us were even punished for feeling bad. That's why it's totally reasonable that as a child, we came to the conclusion that it's bad to feel bad. And that we need to do whatever we can to stop feeling bad for good.
Now that you remember the true purpose of all your feelings, wouldn't it be more useful to learn how to decipher what your bad feelings are trying to tell you instead of trying to shut them up like naughty children? Because when you start to listen to what your "bad" feelings are saying, not only will you stop feeling bad, you will also learn more about yourself than using any other method.
But Why Does Feeling Bad Feel So Bad?
Do you remember how you felt as a child when you tried to give someone a message and he/she ignored you? Terrible wasn't it? And what does a child do he/she is ignored? He/She works even harder to get your attention. Either by getting louder. Or doing something dramatic that is sure to attract everyone's attention.
That's what your bad feelings have been doing. That's why sometimes, you feel so bad that you think it may be better to die than to have to feel so bad any more. Because the more you suppress and try to shut all your bad feelings up, the louder they have to get to give you their message!
So What Can You Do Instead To Stop Feeling Bad For Good?
You can make friends with your feelings. Especially the "bad" ones. Making friends with your feelings is the sure way to decipher what your feelings are trying to tell you.
How? By the same way you make friends with other people.
  • You ask them questions.
  • You get to know their names.
  • You spend some time with them.
  • You do your best to understand their character.
  • You let them know that you appreciate them.
  • You treat them the way you prefer to be treated.
Here Are The Most Common Messages That "Bad Feelings" Try To Tell Us...
  • There's something important for you to notice here.
  • This thought is not right for you. Choose again.
  • There's something else you prefer here. What is it?
Ultimately, To Accurately Know What Messages Your "Bad Feelings" Are Sending, Ask...
  • What do I need to know here?
  • What is right about this that I'm not getting?
And To Stop Feeling Bad For Good, You Need To Practice!
Since you've been making your bad feelings wrong for a long time now, it's likely you won't receive the messages they want to give you immediately. Because just like any friendship, it takes some time to build trust and familiarity.
So take it one day at a time. Celebrate any signs of progress. For example, you may notice you feel less bad after asking your feelings what they're trying to say. Or you receive an answer when you ask the questions. Keep pushing forward.
Are You Sure This Works To Stop Feeling Bad For Good?
When you make friends with your feelings, you eventually feel comfortable having them around. Because...
  • You know what your bad feelings mean.
  • You know how to deal with them.
  • You know how to pacify them.
  • Most of all, you keep building a solid relationship with yourself. The kind of relationship that you know will never ever let you down. Which then becomes a firm example of all the other relationships you have in your life.
You'll know you've succeeded at stopping yourself from feeling bad for good when you even feel grateful for the information and messages being given to you. I guarantee it's worth the effort.

Boosting Confidence the Easy Way

By Kate Irwi
To boost your self confidence you need to work on some of your personal weaknesses first. It is essential you know who you are, what you like or dislike, your tastes and preferences. This may sound straight forward, but if you look at things closely, do you do, say or participate in things to please others rather than yourself?
One way of boosting confidence is by doing things with no doubts that you'll do them well. This doesn't mean you have to be perfect, but that you put your all into everything and do it to the best of your ability. You will feel your self-respect increase and others will also have great respect for you which will go a long way to boosting confidence.
In working towards boosting confidence, you may have to separate yourself from the crowd, stop following convention and pursue your own path, in spite of what others think. If you do this, you may find for a short while you feel like you don't belong, but you will soon have a body of people who respect, follow and look up to you. Being a role model for others is a sure way to boost confidence.
Here are some tips you can adapt which will help with boosting confidence:
· Do some sort of exercise every day. Even 10 minutes every morning makes a difference.
· Learn how to say a few words in several different languages
· Teach someone something they don't know
· Prepare a list of a few funny stories and rehearse narrating them to improve your conversational skills.
· Dress up in a new suit, shoes, or lingerie and walk with confidence.
· Be courteous, always treat everyone with respect.
· Learn to look straight into other people's eyes as you converse, even in group meetings or discussions.
Boosting confidence can have a massive impact on your life and is well worth working on daily.

The Enemy of Consistent Action

By Kurt Turrell
Sustained success only comes to those who take consistent action towards their goals and objectives. One is tempted to claim that inactivity or lack of action is the direct enemy of consistent action; that may sound obvious. Yet lack of action or inactivity is merely a symptom of a deeper problem. When the real enemy is treated, inactivity is replaced with motivation and achievement. Let's examine this enemy of action and success.
There are many symptoms of the enemy. In fact, many carry this internal enemy for so long that the symptoms may appear to be the real issue. But to treat a symptom is not to affect a cure. Some of the more obvious symptoms of this enemy are: personal insecurity, depression, drugs and alcohol, excuses, sloth, indecision, obsessive-compulsiveness, extreme hubris or egotistical behavior. The symptoms can be most anything negative that is promoted by this destructive enemy. On the paradoxical opposite end of the spectrum, this horrible enemy can create over-achievement, perfectionism, or some other form of over-compensation. More often than not, such people are so driven by this deep-seated enemy that it excludes the possibility of a successful, well-rounded life. For example, someone suffering from one form of this demon may be single-mindedly focused on finances to the exclusion of enjoying love, or being an effective lover or parent. The symptoms are too many to enumerate.
The enemy I speak about is Fear! Millions upon millions live in some kind of fear. And that fear, in turn, affects the quality of their lives, preventing them from ultimate achievement and therefore sustained success. For many of these sufferers there was a traumatic event, or several reinforcing frightening events, that imbed and anchor fear so deeply, like a demon needing exorcism. Fear manifests its destructive nature in many habits, including the symptoms mentioned. For those with the deepest, most suppressed, most unrecognized and exacerbated fear, the only real hope might be professional mental help. [As a side note, dear reader, if you have a loved one that needs help, to ignore and avoid is to enable continuance.] For others who recognize their issue or accept their symptoms, there is a strong potential for self-help. We must not allow it to win, for fear is the enemy of success, joy, and fulfillment.
As I have written in previous blogs, recognition of the issue, acceptance, and a desire for change is half of solving the problem. The other half of the solution is discovering the method or methods of treatment that work for you. Just as each person is different, so too are their problems and applied solutions.
Fear must be yanked out by its root, like a vicious weed extracted to prevent proliferation. One effective way to extract fear is through conditioning. The fear must be interrupted, halted, and replaced with a positive. One absolutely excellent program for doing exactly that is called "NACS" (a Registered Trademark of Anthony Robbins, Robbins International). As long as a person does not need professional, clinical treatment, Anthony Robbins' programs can be entirely effective. The point is that the mind must be reprogrammed or reconditioned in order to exorcise fear.
As juxtaposed as it sounds, we must take consistent action against fear because fear is the enemy of consistent action.
