You might have heard the old saying 'only gamble what you can afford to lose'. Well, however you approach it, starting your own business is still gambling. A massive percentage of businesses fail in their first year. If your financial situation is such that you agonize over every small amount you spend,starting a business is probably a bad idea.

Put it this way: do not expect to succeed. Expect that you will fail, and always try your hardest not to. You'll be pleasantly surprised if things go your way. Note that this doesn't mean that you shouldn't believe in yourself and your business - simply that you have to realize the kind of odds you're up against, and stay realistic.

You have to remember that you're the most senior person they can talk to in this organization, and you have to act like it - when there's no-one other than you to handle complaints, you have to either give in to customers at every opportunity or watch them take their business elsewhere.

Do You Really Love What You Do?

If you don't love what you do, then sooner or later you're going to want to stop doing it - and when you run a home business, that's difficult. Besides, you can't run a home business if you're always sitting and thinking about how great it'll be when it's the weekend. No, the only way to succeed in home business is to be absolutely sure that you really love what you're doing. If you can think of another job you'd rather have, then you're in trouble.

Think of it this way: could you run up to someone on the street with a leaflet about your business, and tell them all about it in a way that would really leave an impression? It doesn't matter whether you actually could or not - if you think everyone will be interested, then, believe me, they will be.

Stress and Other Factors That May Cause Acne. Stress may worsen your acne condition. In some people, emotional tensions may also cause acne. Humidity or pollution are environmental factors that cause acne. Drugs like lithium and cosmetics may also result in acne.

Dermatologists recommend scrubbing the face and neck with water and soap to get rid of toxins produced in the body that may cause acne. You reduce the chances of occurrence of acne or infection in pores by cleaning your face regularly. You may even develop permanent scars in infected area, if you do not take proper care and treatment.

"Prevention is better than cure." So it is better that you avoid oily food that is hard to digest in order to prevent acne. Acne medications usually do not treat them completely. Do I Have An Anxiety Problem?

Everyone experiences anxiety from time to time. It is a normal part of our life and is probably experienced by 100% of the population at some time or another. Life is like that, there are always events which will produceanxiety or anxiousness in normal people.

The death of a loved one, a life stressor like divorce, family problems and so on. There are a myriad of situations where anxiety is a perfectly normal human reaction.

However there are also situations where we would not expect the average person to experience anxiety. They could experience anxiety that is far more extreme than would be expected in the average person, or for a much longer duration than would be expected, or both.

Where this is the case the existence of this anxiety, particularly on an ongoing basis, can produce effects for the individual, both psychological and physical.

Physical symptoms, for example, could include shortness of breath, headaches or even migraines, heart palpitations, hyperventilation and much more.

Psychological effects could include inability to concentrate, loss of sleep, irritability and the loss of a sense of personal security.

In these circumstances it is important to take a number of steps to relieve this. The obvious and first one is to consult a medical professional. However there are others that are also useful to try.

There are different ways that we can learn to use to cope with severe anxiety. These, if learned and practiced properly, can reduce some of the effects that anxiety can produce.

Counselling can help, either on its own or in conjunction with some of these activities. And at the same time the counselor may well have their own suggestions for some other activities that may suit the individual well and be beneficial for alleviating the problem.

So if you think you are suffering from more anxiety in your life than you should there is much you can do. Dont ignore the problem, anxiety can become more severe is left alone. Take some steps to confront the problem, there are usually solutions.

Are you doing this for yourself and to make your life easier and time saving,or are you doing it because someone told you to or your neighbor is doing it?
In order to do a job 100% to your liking you need to do the job right or not at all. By not having your heart into it, you will get stressed, frustrated, waste money and not have a useable time saving solution to your problem.

6. Set long-term and short-term goals.
What will you be happy with for now? What would you like it to look like by the end of the year? Sometimes doing things a little at a time in order to achieve the higher goal is better.

7. Develop a system for paper, files and bills.
By keeping on top of the paper filing, paying bills and keeping notes you will eliminate 20% of your stress in keeping up a household.

8. Keep your organizing simple.

One of the most common mistakes that people make concerning problems such as memory loss, disorientation, and the inability to follow instructions is that they are too quick to assume that the source of the problem is Alzheimer's disease. But many times the problem is something different than Alzheimer's.

Alzheimer's disease is a degenerative condition that progresses and worsens until it takes a person's life, and it is only one form of dementia that people experience. There are many other causes of memory loss and other problems that are simply not due to Alzheimer's.

For example, a person, young or old, may have short to long term memory loss as a result of an accident, or a traumatic experience. Hobbies, word puzzles and card games can certainly help. Turn off the television set and get them outside in the sunshine, or read a book, or listen to special music. Causes for Memory Loss

To maintain normal function, the brain must receive a certain combination of nutrients and oxygen in order to serve you properly, and that includes general health down to remembering where you left your keys.

But the brain needs more than that to maintain your memory. It also needs neurotransmitters and the nutrients that help them function and as well as protection from a variety of environmental toxins.

Specifically, in order to maintain proper brain health and a good memory, you must have enough B vitamins and amino acids.

Even if you take supplements, if you have a high amount of cholesterol and triglycerides in your blood, then you lose the benefits of thesenutrients.

These are blockers to blood flow and the blood is the only way for your nutrients to get to the brain. When your brain is deprived the blood and nutrients it needs, the health of your memory suffers.

Although the test is deceptively easy it is also very useful as it's quick, cheap, non-evasive and helps diagnose Alzheimer's disease ordementia and gives an indication of the areas in the patient's memory that may be affected.

To combat memory loss, eat well and drink lots of water. Rest, exercise, and avoid smoking, drugs, and excessive amounts alcohol. Stay away from stress and if yourmemory loss continues, consult a doctor.

How Emotions and Feelings Shape Learning

Body, thought, and emotion are intimately blended through complex nerve networks, and function in concert to shape our awareness.Emotions interpret, arrange, direct, and summarize information received through the five senses. They color our perception of the world and we often unconsciously react to them. They are primary and universal survival tools that permit us to experience joy, surprise, sadness, fear, disgust, or threat. Since emotions are linked to survival, they receive neurological message priority. This article will provide insight into just how our feelings and emotions impact the quality of our learning.

Are emotions and feelings the same thing? The difference is that feelings are not linked to survival. Furthermore, they are context-specific responses shaped by the environment, culture, and society. Emotions can be measured through variations in blood pressure, heart rate variability, brain-imaging techniques, and electro-dermal response.Feelings are difficult to measure. Some examples of feelings are frustration, anticipation, jealousy, cynicism, worry, and optimism. In the present context, I have reason for being particular about this distinction, though most people lump these together for convenience.

Traumatic events and enduring stress can take a toll on a person's physical and psychological health. The memory and accompanying negative emotions of a stressful incident or condition, at any point in life, can lay dormant for years. When triggered by some later stressful event, they can evoke negative beliefs, desires, fantasies, compulsions, obsessions, addictions, or dissociation. This toxic brew can inhibitlearning and memory, and generally fracture human wholeness. Unless the person feels emotionally secure, it is almost impossible for the "thinking" parts of the brain (neo-cortex and frontal lobes) to function effectively.

All living things are created with built-in defense mechanisms. The human version is a fight-or-flight reaction to perceived threats. Stressors, whether sudden and unexpected or consistent and ongoing, trigger this natural effect. Most people are unaware of the common causes and the long-term effects of stress.

Stress is cumulative, and the effects of substantial stress are dissipated only after a period of twelve to eighteen months. Low-level consistent stress keeps the body in a constant fight-or-flight stance. This means that the mind-body is not able to operate at maximum performance. In order to maintain this steady defense mode, energy is diverted away from both the immune system and the brain. Stress and constant fear, at any age, create a chemical imbalance, which can confuse the brain's normal circuits.

A person's physical and emotional well-being is closely linked to the ability to effectively act, think, and learn. Long-term exposure to threat, conflict, or humiliation will damage self-esteem and may result in a condition known as learned helplessness. This chronic defensive posture is characterized by a vortex of negative emotions, self-limiting beliefs, apathy, anxiety, fear, mistrust, immature coping behaviors, and a diminished interest and ability to process information. This state is context-specific and can be triggered over and over by contact with a certain teacher, peer, subject, building, or memory.

An unusual physiological effect occurs during emotionally-stressful conditions. As a reflex response to a threat, the eyes move peripherally so that they can monitor a greater field of vision. This makes it virtually impossible for the eyes to track across a page of writing. Enduring stress will strengthen the muscles of the outer eye, making central focus and tracking a permanent problem. A condition of traumatized children is called "wall-eye" where both eyes are locked in a sustained distrustful peripheral focus. This condition can be overcome through whole-brain integration exercises.

There are many theories on emotions. According to Leslie Cameron-Bandler, author of Emotional Hostage: Rescuing Your Emotional Life, it is possible to experience 421emotions, from rage to peace of mind. Emotion is literally energy in motion. Emotions and external behavior influence one another. Behavior, whether desirable or not, is often a manifestation of our emotions. And since the mind-body is one system, the reverse is true; emotion affects physiology.

Emotions influence perception and learning. In her book, Molecules of Emotions, Dr. Candace Pert wrote: "The brain filters our perceptions to create our 'reality'. The decisions about what we perceive, remember, and learn are regulated by emotion; the interaction of peptides and receptors in the brain. At the same time,emotions are a response to this filtered reality, memories, and learning." Certain positive emotions and feelings act as catalysts to learning . Curiosity, appreciation, and calmness enable receptivity and inhibit resistance. High self-esteem and self-confidence boost thelearning process. Our innate personality types can indicate how we are apt to deal with the range of situations that life offers, and in which environments we are most comfortable.

The Importance Of A Healthy Mind

Your state of mind can affect your body in ways you cannot even imagine. Have you ever noticed that people who constantly experience high levels of stress often look tired, rundown and older than they actually are? This article will provide you with information about the importance of a healthy mind. Whether you're just getting started or looking for next big thing, the following information will be beneficial to you.

You would be surprised at how many people are constantly exposed to stress! Did you know that even infants can experience stress? Think about it - when a baby cries, they usually want or need something whether it be attention, food or a diaper change. If their cries are ignored, they may experience stress because their needs are delayed. Adults, on the other hand, can experience stress in a variety of ways that usually stem from the results of day-to-day activities. Triggers like demands at work, family problems and social conflict can throw just about anyone into a downward spiral.

Knowing your triggers, however, can help you take the step towards ensuring mental health! Some of your distractions or concerns are easily dealt with while others require extra steps to resolve. The best way to ensure mental health is to recognize that it is extremely important. Most people would ignore signs and symptoms of mental distress because they are used to believing that it's 'all in your head.' All too often, people do not recognize the problems until they have already affected them in a negative way.

One of the best sources of information regarding the state of your mental health is you, yourself. You know your limits and what you go through everyday. You can also recognize the factors that affect your mental health when you encounter them. To make sure you take care of your mental health you should learn to identify situations, events and people that are stressful to you so you will know how best to manage them when you need to.

Once you recognize your stress triggers and the things that challenge your mental health, there are certain steps you need to take. Here are some tips that should help you along the way:

Assess your mental health on a regular basis. Try to assess at what point your state of mind is at its best and then try to be aware of when you dip below that level. The point here is to take note of 'trends' in your emotional well-being. Have you been feeling happy and satisfied lately or are you generally depressed and have been for some time?

Set aside time to focus on your mental wellness everyday. Often, taking a few short breaks to relax everyday can do a lot for your mental wellness. Recognize that it is normal for people to have concerns and worries but that what you need to focus on are real solutions. To do this effectively, you need to make a conscious effort to manage your mental wellness.

Choose the most effective ways to manage your negative thoughts. People have different ways of dealing with stress and unpleasant emotions. When these thoughts enter your head, learn to recognize them and then interrupt the flow. Think of more pleasant things or distract yourself by taking part in more productive activities. These thoughts will probably appear from time to time but the key is to prevent them from dominating your mind.

Learn to prioritize. Most of the time, the stress that affects your mental health is caused by an overwhelming sense of being behind at work, at home and financially. Make a conscious effort to prioritize your life. Even if you have a list of 20 things to do in one day, for example, being able to complete seven of them before lunch hour can help reduce pressure.

Challenge your mind. The mind can get a bit rusty when it focuses on only one or two things. Learn to tread on unfamiliar ground and challenge yourself. Learn a new skill, for example, such as playing an instrument or learning a mind-stimulating game like chess. Unfamiliar things make the mind work harder because there is new information to process.

Go easy on yourself. If your mind wants to take a break, then go ahead and let it rest. Your mental wellness rests on how well you can listen to what your mind is telling you!

Maybe things aren't perfect, and progress isn't coming as fast as we'd like, but we need to cut ourselves some slack. We need to be kind and pat ourselves on the back for a job well done instead of beating ourselves up.

We need to treat ourselves with all the empathy, love and understanding that we lavish on everyone else. We need to be able to walk away at the end of the workday energized and ready for what's next rather than drained and ready to collapse on the couch with the TV remote. Here are some suggestions to get your day in line and bring back joy and energy to your life.

1. Start your day with intention. Pick out a maximum of three tasks that are the most important to complete. It's easy to get side-tracked by putting easier, less-important tasks on your to-do list, making it longer and longer. Putting your best effort and intention on meeting your top priorities will give you a real sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.

2. Take your lunch break. Eat a healthy meal, go for a walk, or mediate. Too many of us eat a hurried lunch at our desk I'm often guilty of that. Don't shortchange yourself -- refueling and relaxing are important for stamina and creativity.

3. End your day with positives. Before settling in for the night, take a few minutes to review your day. Think of two things you wish would have turned out differently, acknowledge that you did the best you could at the time, and then firmly set them aside. Then, think of five things you did that were positive and take the time to savor each one of these accomplishments. Remind yourself that no one person can be and do everything, and give yourself a pat on the back for what you do accomplish.

4. Stop listening to the voice in your head. The one that says, "I'm not good enough." You are good enough if you weren't, you wouldn't be in your current job getting it done. When you hear that voice, stop and reframe the comment into something positive. Make a decision right now, today to never disrespect yourself again.

5. Stand up to your fears. Anxiety often comes from fear of failure or fear that you don't deserve "something". Whether its money, success, a relationship or something else, we sometimes fear the exact thing we think we want. Spend some time examining what is really fueling your anxiety and confront the fears that arise.

Many of us hold our lives to a standard higher than we have for other people. We need to learn to give ourselves a break. The next time you start dumping on yourself for something, shut it off and reflect on how you would respond to a friend with the same issue. Then give yourself the same love and tolerance your friend would expect from you. Superheroes only exist in books and movies. This is real life and you're human but you can go on to accomplish great things if you just get out of your own way!

  • A depressed guy will most likely abuse alcohol. Women usually try to eat their depression away, while men will resort to alcohol.
  • They also probably become control freaks, and they become very compulsive.
So, how could you help a depressed man get over this ordeal? Just like how there are differences between symptoms of depression in men and women, there are also slight differences between ways on how to help them. Before anything else, you must be aware that men are harder to persuade in getting help. It is even more difficult for them to admit that they have a problem.   • First of all, help him admit his problem. Do not push him however. Just explain to him what you are observing slowly and what your concerns are. Ranting him about all his behaviors won't help.

You would probably agree when I say that living with a depressed person could sometimes be hard. Seeing that person cry over and over again, noticing him/her having no interest in doing daily activities, observing how s/he struggles in doing even the simplest task, or witnessing how this person loathes against him/herself all of that could be really heartbreaking especially if that person is your loved one.

First is always be considerate and compassionate. Never get pissed off with how they deal with their difficulties. Sixth, remind the person that whatever his going through is caused by depression, a disorder, and that s/he is not to be blamed.
Seventh, slowly persuade the depressed person to seek help. Explain to him/her the benefits of going to a doctor, or having therapy sessions with a counselor. However, do not push him too much. Just persuade the person slowly so that s/he would not feel any pressure as this could be bad for depression.

Overcoming Depression - An Interview With One Man's Struggle

No matter who you are or what walk of life you are from, you can suffer from depression. Those that suffer from this disease find it a constant struggle to sometimes wake up in the morning and try to go about their day. Many turn to doctors and antidepressants for help, only to find that not only do they not work, but in some case have a worse effect than before. In the struggle that many have to find something that does work, we often find that hearing about how someone else recovered can be an inspiration for your own recovery.
While this author is developing his expertise on the subject of depression, and having battled with it for many years, I succeeded in living a semi-normal life. As with one of the problems with disease, it started in early childhood. Alienated from peers and having problems at home, as well as a thyroid gland deficiency. Even with the gland problem taken care of, the symptoms continued to linger. At the time, this condition was not even thought of as a real disease, and put under the label of just feeling down. Antidepressants were not even heard of, and those medications were mostly prescribed for other things at the time.
With the limited amount of information available I struggled to lead a normal life. The problem was the situations kept getting worse with every major let down, like divorces and having to move around a lot and not being able to keep a steady job. I was plunging deeper and deeper. Soon there was no want or desire to get up in the morning, and thoughts of dying were on the horizon.
That is when I decided that something had to change, but what to do? Again, not much was really studied about my depression, and I could not afford expensive doctors, so I decided to try to get on disability for help. This in itself was a struggle, but at this point there was no way I was in any condition to work. I was at the bottom, living in a flop house, with no future in front of me other than the next life. I met someone, and we got together, and I thought things would be better, and they were somewhat, but my depression soon resurfaced again. It was always there, preventing me from enjoying my new relationship.
When my kids were born, I thought everything would change. Both of them were a joyous experience, and the love for them was always there. As my condition got worse, in desperation for some relief, I turned to doctors for answers. Of course, back then treatment options were limited and I was prescribed a popular antidepressant. I won't mention any names, but it is still being administered today, but for other things. I personally did not feel any different, but my partner did, and noticed that I was getting more and more outwardly angry at just about any little thing. While fearing for my kids, my medication was changed and even these did not help.
The first piece of advice, is take control of your situation. Do not take no for an answer, when it comes to trying to find alternatives. Do as much research as possible and educate yourself. I found ways that did help me through meditation and changing my diet to home cooked meals and also eliminating processed foods. I also found an old saying that says, "fake it till you make it". This worked as my own personal mantra for many years, and still does to this day.
When something tries to knock you down, like depression, you have to just keep going. You need to try alternatives to antidepressants. There are so many studies that show not only do they not work, but can be detrimental to both your mental and your physical health. Keep going, don't stop, don't let your illness get the better of you. It literally is a case of mind over matter, and you can learn to overcome this through different meditative techniques, but you also have to want to do it. If you can not do it for yourself, think of your spouse and your kids, they need you and they can help you with this problem.
Even after everything, there are going to be many times when a bout of depression strikes without warning. It may be something you see on television, or hear on the radio. It may be losing your job, or having to move. The best way to get better is to address it directly and take the time to get away by yourself and use your self help techniques. Then you can move on, if you stay focused, you will get over it.
Sometimes you can find something you like, and get paid for it. In my struggle to understand depression, I have been able to write articles about it. Including how most antidepressants and other medications prescribed to me have worked out, or not. I have been blessed enough to learn all I can about it and turn the information into something everyone can understand. I always try to help the next person lead a normal life. I have also been able to make a living with it. I also have much support from my current wife, and son. They have stuck by me through good times and bad, and this is also something that you will need to make it. If you have to wake up every day and tell yourself that you are doing it for them, then do it. This is where that "fake it till you make it" comes into play.
When you find something that works for you, stick with it like glue. It can literally save your life. No matter how bad a situation looks, there is always another day to look to, and something else on the horizon.

If you find you are becoming excitable over something at work or at home take a deep breath and go for a walk. Hypertension in Men Symptoms and Causes

A few years ago, the American Medical Association announced that normal blood pressure should be 120/80. Whether it's the job; money problems; smoking; overweight; alcohol; and other social and psychological factors which may contribute to the condition, it is important to understand it is not a curable disease, nor one which is tangible. Also keep in mind; hypertension is not exclusive to any one group. It affects people from all walks of life. To what degree it can cause damage to your heart, kidneys and brain depends on its severity.

If you find that you have taken every precaution and your blood pressure is still high, your doctor may prescribe medication only if he or she feels it is absolutely necessary. Some of the drugs have side effects, while others can be tolerated. While on any type of medication, do not fall under the assumption that because you may feel better you can stop taking the drugs. This is a dangerous scenario as mentioned earlier; hypertension is a symptom-less disease.

If you follow a proper diet that does not contain sodium; if you alter your lifestyle in order to ease the stress and other factors which contribute to hypertension, it can be controlled. Nothing in life is more important than your health; certainly nothing to cause physical or psychological elements which can raise your blood pressure. Hypertension in men is prevalent; yet over fifty percent of men do not realize they have the condition. Take care of your health and it will take care of you.

Forget Worries Before Sleeping

Modern day life imposes so much stress on us that the fears, anxieties, worries and problems occupy our minds till we go to sleep. Millions of sleeping pills are prescribed every year and millions more are added each year. It would be safe to assume that our modern and advancing lifestyles enforce stress in our lives.

Bills to pay, project deadlines, end of a relationship, insecurity, and debts are just a few of the factors that could trigger emotional and psychological stress.

Physical stress also rise in modern day living. Pollution, unhealthy eating habits and too much activity can also put excessive stress in our bodies. Physical stress coupled with psychological stress can make us weaker and more defenseless when viruses or bacteria attack our bodies.

So, probably it is time to reduce the distance between you and your employees by making your office an exciting place and adding some fun and humor to it.

There was a time when while looking for jobs in India such factors like employee friendliness or fun at workplace were not kept in mind but nowadays people give a lot of importance to workplace environment. Sure, work is supposed to be serious business. No compromises should be made on the professional front. Punctuality must be maintained and deadlines should be set and met. Nevertheless it is important to remember that most of us spend more than half of our day in the workplace. Hence, it is extremely important to ensure that working is a fun process and not a boring one. Most importantly, the problem of the youth turning to drugs and alcohol to reduce stress can be curbed by ensuring that they enjoy work. For this purpose, exciting projects and challenging deadlines should be set. However, flexibility of work timings and the capability to work from home every now and then should also be maintained.

Contests like karaoke contests, free lunches or coffee once in a while, fun awards etc can also be organized. Occasional parties and social gatherings after work hours and incentives like gym, yoga or kick boxing classes can also be provided to the employees.

Most importantly, the relationship between you and your employees should be a friendly and comfortable one. They should have the freedom to express themselves and discuss their problems with you. You should be a part of the team and participate in all the group activities. Remember that the one factor which motivates us to work harder is Encouragement. When you know that your work is valued and appreciated, you tend to put in longer work hours to do better work. You should make the extra effort of interacting with them personally whenever you can and encourage them. All your colleagues should be treated equally and a cheerful and fun environment should be maintained. This would prove to be beneficial for both you and your employees.
