If you give a helping hand to those who are in need, then you will become a saint or messiah for them. Now-a-days people are very narrow-minded and their care towards others becomes restricted to the limitations of their family or the community. Everyone is busy with earning more money for their family and enjoying it with them. We dont want to know whether the person next door is in good condition or he is longing for some help from you.

When we talk about charity, we cant forget Mother Teresa. In one of her quotes, she said, Love is not patronizing and charity isn't about pity, it is about love. Charity and love are the same -- with charity you give love, so don't just give money, but reach out your hand instead.

We misinterpreted this quote by associating charity with dropping a few bucks in the church basket, orphanage funds, poor mans fund etc. and think that we had done something great. Do you think giving some money to a person with mental illness can take way his worries? Instead, if you can help that person by making sure he gets better medical assistance and by providing him with at least his basic wants. Remember, charity always begins at home, but does not end at home. The aim is to reach out to as many people as you can.

But that doesnt mean we always go out and search for people who are in need of help. Whenever we get an opportunity to help others, we need to make sure that we volunteer and do it, let it small or big. It is just a question of time that you need to take some efforts and train you mind to get this thing going. Youre not going to lose anything if you give.

You can also enroll as a member of a charity organization and work for the up-bringing and empowerment of the needy to live a sufficient life. Today, charity organizations offer service not only to the human world, but also to the animal world. In our society, lots of people are expecting our help and this includes orphans, blind, physically handicapped, mentally challenged, stunted growth, people below poverty line etc. Nature has gifted us with good health and wealth and it is our duty to pay attention to our fellow beings.

In an interview for Time Magazine, Mother Teresas answer for a question about her special qualities goes like, I'm like a little pencil in His hand. He does the writing. The pencil has nothing to do with it. The pencil has only to be allowed to be used. Mothers life is a good example for many to follow. Those who want palliative care and those who are waiting for death on the streets of Calcutta, India, her Missionaries of Charity offered a supporting hand. Many people followed Mothers step by coming forward as volunteers and serving the poor. A poll conducted by University of California stated that about 40% of Americans were willing to spend several weeks on vacations that involved volunteer service, meanwhile nearly 13% wanted to spend their entire year for this.

We can serve poverty-stricken people directly or indirectly. If we have to support them indirectly, the web can help us to search for organizations that deal with this kind of work. To gather more information about organizations that helps people, I searched from my home PC connected to Verizon FiOS Internet.

By helping the deprived ones, you are becoming Gods favorite. He will hold you and take care of you, whenever you face difficulties. Sam Levenson quoted, As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others.
