Live Your Passion and the Money will Follow

 By: Ruth Bridgewood

Photo: msoci.com

When you get towards the end of your life, it is important to be able to look back and know you did everything you wanted to do and you have no regrets. Success in life can be measured in any way, not necessarily just the amount of money you have made. However, if you can live your passion, and work towards something you are extremely passionate about, it is most likely that you will make money (despite yourself!).

Here are some things you need to know and do in order to be successful and live out your passion:

Belief - The most important thing is to believe that you will be successful. Relax and believe in your success. Visualise yourself on television one day talking about your passion and how you turned it into a reality. Believe and feel empowered as you think about your endeavour and how you are going to be successful. As well as believing in yourself, you must believe in what you are doing and the impact it will make on the world (or at the very least, the positive impact it will have on your clients or customers).

Attitude - You need to maintain a complete positive attitude. Be positive at all times. Don't let the little things get you down or upset you. Realise that every obstacle now is a learning experience. Have a positive attitude and outlook on everything you do with your business and your passion - the Law of Attraction will come into play and you will find that things will begin to work in your favour more often than they ever have before.

Passion from the inside - If you truly love what you are doing then everything will come naturally for you. You will take pride in your work and if you design clay pots then you won't send a cracked pot out to a customer because you will be passionate about the quality. This is because you will own it and your name will be on it. You will be proud of everything you do.

Model the Experts - Choose at least five experts in the field you have chosen and model them. Learn everything you can about how they became successful. This means you should know their entire autobiography

Make a Start - If you are in a situation where you cannot make your passion a reality today, then take your idea and make it better by chiselling away at the details. Lay out the plan for your project or business endeavour, consider every detail and improve on it where you can. When you are in a waiting period there are still plenty of things for you to do. Don't procrastinate or look at a waiting period as a sign you shouldn't get started.

Take Action - Taking action is the most important thing to avoid procrastination. You are working toward your dream. Let nothing is going to get in your way or slow you down. Put a sign up that says "action" to remind yourself you are working toward your passion by constant action. If you have others on your team, make sure they are action oriented - it can be frustrating when you want to get things done and others are holding you back. Also build momentum by acting on the ideas you have. Don't sit around waiting for something to happen or come to you.

Always reward action - Never let action and goal setting go without rewards. You want to reward everyone helping you and yourself. This doesn't mean you need to spend money you don't have. You can reward someone by letting them know you appreciate what they are doing for you. Acknowledgement of hard work is sometimes enough when people know you really appreciate it.

Continuous Improvement - Accept that when you start, you will not be putting out your best every single time. You need to find ways to continuously improve processes that are slowing you down, causing poor quality, or frustrating you. There will most likely be a certain amount of trial and error. Productivity, processes and quality will continue to improve as time goes by and you begin to find ways to make things better.

Maintain Your Enthusiasm - It's important to keep the fires burning. Going back to your old habits could leave you feeling restless and unmotivated. Take a break or a vacation if you need to, but if your passion is genuine you should be able to recover from any slumps and get back into it!

How To Set Goals Effectively

By: Jaime Peret

Photo: thebhag.com

Writing this article for you was a pleasure, I trust it be likewise for your to read it.

Sometimes we do not realize that there are so many options you can take to amend your life, but if you do not have any ideas on how to choose which one, you are stuck.

Now, we will talk about some guidelines that will effectively help set your goals and manage your time in an efficient manner that will cause those goals to become reality.

1. Express Your Goals in a Positive Way:

The fundamental element to setting goals that you can attain is to state your goals in a positive way. How often have you been excited to accomplish a goal that didn't even sound good when you brought it up? If you are not happy or comfortable with the goals that you have set, most likely your chance to succeed is pretty low.

If you want to express your goals in a positive way, you simply have to first think of a goal that puts a smile on your face when you imagine it completed. Why would you want to set a goal that made you cringe or cry? When you are beginning to set your goals it helps when you are talking about them to others in a manner that states your actions as positives because it will have others seeing it as a positive as well. That will garner you a great deal more support. In the end, don?t we all need a little support when we are trying to do something positive in our lives?

2. Be Precise: Set a precise goal that includes starting dates, times and amounts so that you can properly measure your achievement. If you do this, you will know exactly when you have achieved the goal, and can take complete satisfaction from having achieved it. Being precise in setting your goals is no more than setting them with exact details. It is easier this way because then you can follow a step-by-step format. That?s all there is to it.

3. Set Your Priorities: When you have several goals, give each a specific priority. This helps you to avoid feeling overwhelmed by too many goals, and helps to direct your attention to the most important ones and follow each in succession. Setting priorities will force you into the step-by-step format above. By doing the most important first and moving to the least important in succession, you are enabling each task to be easier than the last. It causes the accomplishment of each task to get easier and easier which will encourage you to complete your goal.

4. Write Your Goals Down: This will be your road map to your success and give more attention to it. In writing your goals down, you are better able to keep up with your scheduled tasks for each accomplishment. It also helps you to remember each task that needs to be done and allows you to check them off as they are accomplished.

Basically, you can better keep track of what you are doing so as not to repeat yourself unnecessarily.

5. Keep Operational Goals Small: Keep the low-level goals you are working towards small and easy to achieve. If a goal is too large, then it can seem that you are not making progress towards it. Keeping goals small and incremental allows you more opportunities for reward. Derive today's goals from larger ones. It is a great way to accomplish your goals.

Overcoming Panic Attacks the right way

 By: George Williams

Photo: anxietypanicadvice.com

Panic disorders are the result of the increasing number of troubles and tensions in every day life. Each one of us is susceptible to experiencing panic and common anxiety attacks at some point or another in time. Nearly five percent of the population around the world has already come under its toll. Still, there is a great hope to cure panic attacks as there are some clear-cut ways to aid the recovery process. Let us take a glance over the issue of panic disorder and methods to cure panic attacks.

Panic disorder is looked at as something that all of a sudden causes mental and physical discomfort, fear, worry, irritability, and at times stomach problems, too, which can lead to nausea. Your body is subjected to a chemical imbalance which might influence you to get into an unnecessary scuffle with someone. Your brain starts sending signals that tell you that something is off and your heart rate increases. Anxiety disorder usually lasts anywhere from fifteen seconds to thirty minutes, causing a dreadful experience to the victim. Panic attacks are often related with the sense of apprehension and the person victimized by it experiences himself as being caught in a very frightening condition.

Panic disorder is not a mental sickness inspite of what many people term it as. Nor is it a strange disease that can be fatal. Usually, when someone suffers panic attacks, people around are apprehensive of any kind of physical injury to the person because of the extreme stress inflicted on their mind. One thing here is certain that an attack will never injure you, physically as well as psychologically. This is a myth, which, if you have it in your mind, needs to be done away with in order to allow the healing process become faster and smoother.

In the phase of a panic attack you might experience your heart palpitate fast and excessively. However, this is just a consequence of your mind being subjected to extreme anxiety. These severe anxiety symptoms are often experienced by many agoraphobia sufferers. When you feel and experience weakness and fear that you will faint, relax; it is simply caused by hyperventilation.

There are clear-cut ways of overcoming panic attacks. You can stop panic attacks successfully by controlling your subconscious mind. You need to be able to control and relax your mind and thoughts when you feel like a panic attack is imminent. You can treat panic attacks effectively by conditioning yourself to smash the fear of having a panic attack. There is a way to cure anxiety. Panic attacks can be controlled efficiently, by bringing the panic disorder symptoms under control. Finding the reason for your anxiety and the proper use of some techniques that help relieve the anxiety, such as deep breathing exercises, changes in lifestyle, etc. will cure panic attacks forever.

Why Setting Goals Don’t Work!

 By: Raymond Hill

Photo: lrhand.com

Most people would agree that individual beliefs and values influence and determine the outcome of any situation or experience in our lives. That’s why a group of people can go through similar experiences and yet individually come away with totally different results. Question!!! "When do most people think about setting goals?" It’s usually done as a new year’s resolution at a party over a drink or two, or when you need to slim down for the summer to fit into that new bikini you’re planning to buy or on some other whim. When done in such a manner the goals set tend to be unrealistic and unattainable? No real thought or planning has gone into it, and in reality, you’re just setting yourself up for disappointment and failure.

When this happens of course you say to yourself. "See I knew that goals don’t work!!" The truth of the matter is that there is a specific formula needed to create great goals that work. Only 20% of the reasons why you’re not achieving your goals are on the outside. That means 80% of the reasons why you’re not reaching your goals is on the inside. If you are seriously looking for change in whatever area in life you are unhappy about always start with yourself.

Einstein said "We are all boxed in by the boundary conditions of our own thinking" Our values and beliefs are created subconsciously through the conditionings we received in our early informative years through our parents, education, religion, schooling and work ect. When we reach our teens and into adulthood, we conveniently begin to pigeon hole meanings and reasons to life’s experiences. Subconsciously we create own internal rule book on how we believe we should be and on how we perceive things. Through habitual limiting beliefs and thought processes we set an invisible wall that limits what we allow ourselves to experience and feel. This then becomes our perceived reality of the world. To change your internal representation of your individual world, we must begin to challenge and review:

• You’re Beliefs: Beliefs from the parameters of what you will and will not allow in your life. They make up the boundary conditions of your thinking. Limiting beliefs narrow and restrict your possible experiences; however, transformed beliefs can expand your individual potential and expand what you allow yourself to experience.

• You’re Values: Values represent what is important to you, ideas that guide your life and represent what you stand for, like family, happiness, stability, love, money, recognition ect. Individual experiences will vary based on your range of values. Someone who values wealth will invest time and effort in that area, and there life will reflect that. If that same person does not value honesty, then the route to wealth will be very different from someone who values honesty.

There have been three major turning points in my life:

The first was when I discovered that if I wanted anything to change it was up to me. This world doesn’t owe me any favors or free hand outs. I am responsible for my life, and for everything that’s happened to me. At some level, we have chosen everything that happens in our experience, whether consciously or unconsciously, for a grander purpose. Don't ask, "Why did I create this?' Instead, ask yourself, "How did I create this reality and what do I want to create instead?"Responsibility means "If it’s to be it’s up to me" After you accept complete responsibility, your whole life begins to change.

• The second turning point for me came when I realized that you can learn how to be successful. If you put your mind to it, there is nothing that you can’t accomplish. No one is any better or smarter than you. All Life and business skills, sales skills and money making skills are learnable.

• The third turning point was discovering the art of correctly setting goals. When done correctly your goals become the signposts along your path, which motivates and keeps you on track towards your desired results? The Goal Setting Formula To Success The first thing is to decide exactly what key area of your life you would like to work on. Start off with your end result in mind. Imagine that there are no limitations on what you can be, have or do. Imagine that you have all the time and money, all the friends and contacts, all the education and experience that you need to accomplish any goal you can set for yourself.

Just like a Harry Potter, Imagine that you could wave your magic wand and make your life perfect in areas of life of your choice. What would it look like? For a goal to truly motivate people it must inspire create the energy and confidence and determination so that the goal may be reached. For this to happen effortlessly and easily write your goal in present-tense language as if it is happening right now. Success is not around the corner - it's right now. Using the following technique allows you to put goals in your future in such a way that they actually occur. When Creating Your Goals They Must Be:

Specific: For your goal to have the energy to reach its objective it must be detailed and state its outcome. It’s no good saying "I want to be rich" This is very ambiguous. How much richer would you want to be? If you make 1 cent more you would be richer. Be specific. Example: "I want to earn $10,000 passive income per month from my online internet affiliate programs".

Measurable: When we set goals it’s important to start with the end in mind. This prevents procrastination and gives a positive direction to shoot for. When setting goals be aware that you will be breaking this goal down turning it into milestones. Start with the end in mind.

Evidential: There should be some practical evidence that you decide upon when setting your goal that makes it real and compelling for you. Be sure that you have a clearly defined the way you want your goal to be. For example, it is obvious when you have reached your goal when you have in your next month’s bank account $10,000 from your online internet affiliate programs. This is a better goal than just I want to be rich. Focusing on the evidence will help you to be on target and will improve the effectiveness of achieving your goal.

Responsible: When we set goals it must be understood that for this goal to work you must take control of your actions and be responsible for the success of this goals objective. You must fully accept the consequences of your own decisions and actions. Responsibility means "If it’s to be it’s up to me.

Timed: In your subconscious mind the past and the future don't exist; there is only the "now". Your future is pre destined, to a degree on what you are doing, thinking and believing right now. This means that the future can be molded and shaped any way you want it to be. By creating future date goals you are taking charge of your future. At first aim to make the goal roughly 6 months away.

Inspirational: We as human beings do things either to avoid pain, to gain pleasure or because we are inspired to do something. When we live our lives in accordance with our own inner values and follow our true heart’s desire we discover our higher self. We instinctively awaken a dormant energy that guides our life and so we begin our sacred quest to find our true purpose. When we are inspired we manifest great things into our life to support nurture and challenge us. Challenges help us to grow and are necessary for great things to happen.

Emotional: Human beings are emotional beings everything we do is driven by our emotions. We are driven to gain pleasure and to avoid pain. It's an instinctive ancestral survival skill from years of ago, when we needed to have those instincts to avoiding becoming dinner for that wiled bear! So the more emotional gain that is associated with your goal the more you will feel compelled to go for it.

Goal: Health (example) It is the 17th of July 2009, and I feel amazing as I am now a healthy size 10. I love and feed my body a healthy balanced diet of daily salads and juices. I walk regularly around Regents Park three times a week and attend yoga four times per week. I feel my life is in balance, and I now have more energy and vitality to develop and build my personal training practice.

Activating the Goal: Once you have designed your goal it is important that you put it into action. Take a few moments to create the emotions that would accompany the successful achieve¬ment of your goal. In your mind eye create a mental picture combined with all the emotions that will have an enormous impact on your subcon¬scious mind. Visualization is perhaps the most powerful tool available to you to help you achieve your goals faster than you ever thought possible. When you combine this clear goal setting method, with emotionally charged visualization, you activate your subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind then solves every problem on the way to your goal. Your subconscious mind activates the Law of Attraction and begins attracting into your life people, circumstances, ideas and resources that will help you to achieve your goals even faster.

Read your goal and do this visualization every morning and evening before you go to bed? Remember To: 1. Commit to go through this program with 100%, total commitment. You will get out of it what you put into it. 2. Make the decision to change your life for the better. Then, use the above method to create your desired Goal. 3. Take action! In order to make a change in your life, you have to actually do something. Take responsibility for your own life and your own results. 4. Begin with the end in mind.

This method of goal setting is one of many Shamanic Life Coaching techniques used by the Padmic System™ helping you to experience a greater understanding of yourself and your individual strengths.

How to Sharpen Your Mind and Improve Your Memory

 By Charles Ratliff

Photo: vitrolenta.com

Do you know the secret of having a sharp mind? Everyone wants to have a sharper mind and long-term memory especially since competition at work is very high. Even at home, we want to be able to recall all important tasks or details which can be helpful for us to do our day-to-day tasks the right way. Our mind is just like any other parts of our body that needs special attention. There are necessary vitamins and nutrients needed for better brain function.
Below is the list of vitamins that can help sharpen your mind and improve your memory:
B Vitamins
Studies show that B Vitamins serve as memory enhancers, protecting brain neurons from harmful bacteria by creating protective shields. There are 4 B Vitamins that are very important for the brain.
a.) Vitamin B1 or so-called Thiamine helps to process the fuel of the brain which is the glucose. B1 can be seen in soybeans, whole-wheat bread, sunflower seeds and green peas. Deficiency of Thiamine may results to poor memory, irritation and fatigue. The worst things that could happen to a person who lacks Vitamin B1 are memory loss and eye problems. Persons who are prone to Vitamin B1 shortage are people who actually love alcoholic drinks.
b.) Vitamin B3 or Niacin is a very important nutrient for our brain since it reduces the production of blood cholesterol while increasing the blood flow through our brain and for those who is health conscious it actually helps to have lower blood pressure. Vitamin B3 can actually be found in peanuts, beans, milk, tuna, tofu and calf's liver. Vitamin B3 deficiency may cause many health problems, like diarrhea, dermatitis or even dementia which is a brain disorder.
c.) Vitamin B6 or Pyridoxine is present in fish, soybeans, sunflower seed and spinach. It helps in producing neurotransmitters also known as the brain messengers. Lack of this type of Vitamin B may cause depression and mental confusion.
d.) Vitamin B12 also known as Cobalamin is a vitamin necessary for older people for it helps with the production of red blood cells which is important for the brain. It is also called the vitamin for the aging brain. Some good sources of this vitamin are oysters, roast beef, sardines and beef liver. Shortage of this vitamin may cause depression, anemia and irritability.
Antioxidants
a.) Vitamin C or known to all of us as Ascorbic acid is also known as an antioxidant in the medical community. It helps in the production of norepinephrine and in the regulation of neurotransmitter. Sources of Vitamin C are grapefruit, watermelon, papaya, cabbage and broccoli.
b.) Vitamin E also known as Tocopherol helps protect our blood vessels against damage from the process of oxidation thus making our blood vessels healthy. Foods that are considered to be rich in Vitamin E are asparagus, sweet potato, walnuts, almond and sunflower seeds.
c.) Vitamin C and E serves as antioxidants in our body which removes toxins in our body especially in our brain that might be harmful to us.
Omega 3 Fatty acids
It is commonly found in specific fishes like tuna, mackerel etc. Studies show that frequent intake of foods rich in Omega 3 helps improve a person's memory.
So, you should now start eating the right kinds of foods to help sharpen your mind and improve your memory.

Self-Esteem Habits in Your Family

 By Liv Miyagawa

Photo: ottawa.ca

To keep your self-esteem high you need good self-esteem habits. Just taking a self-esteem course to raise your self-esteem once doesn't keep your self-esteem high for the rest of your life. By creating good self-esteem habits in your family you will not only help yourself to maintain a high self-esteem, but you will help your husband/wife and your children to raise their self-esteem too. This will maximize their performance and well-being now and build a good base for maintaining high self-esteem in the future.
Here are three self-esteem habits that you can introduce to your family.
1. Give compliments. When you give your family members compliments you will help them to raise their self-esteem. Try to not just give them compliments when they have done something good, but also compliment them on their personalities. For example, you can tell them that they are kind, helpful, happy, social, punctual, fun to be with etc.
2. Talk about your own positive qualities. When you talk openly about what is good about yourself you show your family that it is ok to think positively about yourself. It is important that everybody learns that loving yourself is something positive.
3. Tell your family members how you want them to treat you. Tell them what you want them to do in order to show that they care about you and love you, and tell them how you do not want to be treated. When you do this you set a good standard of showing yourself respect by expecting people to fulfill your needs of being loved and cared about. You are also a good role model in terms of not accepting bad behaviour. Your children will grow up as strong individuals who do not accept being bullied or stepped over by others. They will take responsibility for their own happiness.
Although I do not want to put it on the list, the most important self-esteem habit that you can have in your family is to show each other love every day. You do this by listening carefully to every family member and showing that you care and respect them. This is the most important self-esteem habit.

People With High Self-Esteem Don't Let Themselves Be Walked Over

 By Liv Miyagawa

 Photo: blog.timesunion.com

Building self-esteem is not only about learning to accept and love yourself, it is also about respecting yourself. People with high self-esteem don't let themselves be walked over by others. They don't accept bad treatment because know that they are worth better.
People with low self-esteem don't expect people to treat them well because they expect others to view them in the same negative way as they view themselves. People with high self-esteem on the other hand expect to be treated well. They expect others to listen to them, care about them and treat them with fairness. In short, people with high self-esteem expect others to treat them as valuable human beings because that is what they consider themselves to be.
To raise your self-esteem you have to make sure that you don't let yourself be walked over by others. When you are mistreated you need to show yourself enough self-respect to tell the person who treated you badly to stop. You should not accept to be called names or spoken to in a degrading way and you should not accept to be ignored. If you don't do anything to show that you don't accept bad treatment you show yourself and others that you are not worth better than that. To raise your self-esteem you need to stand up for yourself.
If you do not respect yourself, nobody else will. Because people with high self-esteem respect themselves the people around them respect them as well. Self-respect and self-esteem is admired by others because everybody wishes to feel as people with high self-esteem feel and to have what they have. By respecting yourself you will gain respect from others.

The Best Time Organization Tips

 by caseycavell

Photo: personaltrainer-alex.com
The time-tested phrase ‘you have to learn to crawl before you can walk' is merely a metaphor for setting micro and macro goals for yourself. If your ultimate goal is to be able to walk, then yes it is important that you should learn to crawl first. Regardless, when creating goals for yourself, remember to set intermediate ones also, so that you create checkpoints for yourself; this helps you keep on track to achieve your ultimate goals.

If your goal is to purchase your first self storage facility this year, you must first identify all of the components of a sale. Finding a motivated seller with a mismanaged property that still has an upside is the ideal situation. Believe me, it takes a lot of time and effort to find a person who is willing to sell their property. That's just the first step! If buying your first property is your goal, then your first micro-goal should be finding a motivated seller. Set about a plan for finding a motivated seller. If it takes cold-calling self storage facilities from a large owner's database, then set a goal for the number of places you will call in a week, a month, etc. Within each one accomplished, continue to set others. This allows you to set them realistically for yourself. If you just have a goal of buying a property, but you have no structure on how to achieve it, you will almost certainly fail.

I believe in setting high standards and goals. If you don't achieve your ultimate goal, you will most likely achieve the secondary and improve yourself or your situation. So in closing, remember to aim high with your ultimate goals, yet set your intermediate goals realistically because they are the ones that you will be chasing in the immediate future. I challenge you to set one for yourself tomorrow. After you completed this goal, set intermediate goals that will help you achieve along the way. After you complete your tasks, reflect on your experience and see if you feel that setting the small goals to achieve the big one can help you or not. I'm confident it will.

Top Five Warning Signs of Depression

 by grantwmr@gmail.com

Photo: allwomenstalk.com

Depression is a devastating condition that can take over your entire life. It is easily one of the most misunderstood conditions that affect our mental and physical health. Depression is more than just feeling sad. It is not just the blues. It is the result of a complex interaction between the chemicals and the brain. Depression can affect sleeping, eating, working, relationships - in fact, it can affect all aspects of your life.

Depression will affect close to10% of the population at one point or another in their lives. That's about 19 million people in the United States alone. About 80% to 90% of those who seek treatment for depression feel better within two to three weeks, and continue with their lives. Unfortunately, about two thirds of those suffering from depression never seek treatment for a variety of reasons.

One of the biggest reasons that people fail to seek treatment for depression is that they fail to recognize the symptoms, or even to realize that anything is wrong. Recognizing the signs and symptoms of depression can literally save your life or the life of a family member. These are the top five warning signs that someone you know may be suffering from depression.

1. Decreased interest in activities that were previously enjoyed

This is a symptom of depression that is often overlooked or misinterpreted. A person who is suffering from depression loses interest in activities that they have previously enjoyed. They may stop attending meetings or drop out of clubs to which they have belonged for years. If questioned, they will often simply say that they've lost interest, or don't enjoy the activity any longer. Associates and friends often don't recognize this as a symptom of depression, and may even feel hurt or angry with their friend for the slight.

Interestingly, recent research suggests that social contact stimulates the release of chemicals in the brain that help stabilize moods and produce happy feelings. It's one of the reasons that social activities are often part of the recommended treatment for depression.

2. A change in eating habits

Those suffering from depression will often change their eating habits. There are many reasons for this change, and not all apply in all cases. A depressed person may feel that it is too much trouble to bother with eating at all. Food may lose its appeal entirely, or they may turn to snack and junk foods because they require less effort to prepare. In turn, those who are depressed may show marked increases or decreases in weight.

Because nutrition appears to have a major effect on mental and emotional outlook, these changes in appetite can have a further debilitating effect on the depression, triggering a deepening spiral or cycle of depression. Encouraging proper eating habits and good nutrition can help alleviate the symptoms of depression.

3. Frequent headaches, stomachaches and other physical symptoms

Depression is often accompanied by physical symptoms, including headaches and stomachaches, muscle pains and other pain. While it's easy to assume that the pains are "all in your head", the fact is that they're not.

When you're depressed, your brain and body produce too much or too little of various chemicals. Those imbalances can result in the aches and pains that are characteristic of depression. Treating the depression can diminish all the symptoms, including the headaches, stomachaches and other pains.

4. Fatigue and/or insomnia

Sleep is another area of life that is often disrupted during depression. The disruption can take the form of insomnia and an inability to sleep, or it may take the form of excess sleep. A person suffering from depression may find themselves feeling tired all the time, or taking naps when they typically don't. Insomnia may keep the person up at night, leading to fatigue during the day. These symptoms may show up as waking up too early, waking during the night, or falling asleep during the day.

The inability to sleep can also deepen depression as the body is unable to renew the supplies of chemicals that the brain needs to function properly. Instating healthy sleep patterns is another way to help alleviate the symptoms of depression, but again, it may be necessary to treat the depression before it is possible to start sleeping well again.

5. Thoughts of hopelessness, harming oneself or suicide

The most telling and clear sign of depression are thoughts of hopelessness and/or of harming oneself. If you find yourself feeling worthless, believing that there is no use in trying to do things, or thinking of harming yourself or killing yourself, you need to get help immediately.

If someone you love is struggling with these feelings, they are not just feeling blue or being dramatic. Recognizing these thoughts and words as what they are, a sign of a serious depression can literally save their lives.

First experience with depressive mood

 by rachel.broune

Feelings of sadness are normal, appropriate and even necessary during life's setbacks or losses. Or you may feel blue or unhappy for short periods of time without reason or warning, which also is normal and ordinary. A depressive disorder is an illness that involves the body, mood, and thoughts. It affects the way a person eats and sleeps, the way one feels about oneself, and the way one thinks about things. A depressive disorder is not the same as a passing blue mood. It is not a sign of personal weakness or a condition that can be willed or wished away. People with a depressive illness cannot merely "pull themselves together" and get better. Without treatment, symptoms can last for weeks, months, or years. Appropriate treatment, however, can help most people who suffer from depression.

Depression can happen to anyone of any age, race, class or gender. It afflicts almost 19 million Americans each year, and up to one in five American women will suffer from clinical depression at some point in her life. Women are two to three times more likely than men to suffer from depression. Many women first experience symptoms of depression during their 20s and 30s. Once you experience depression, there's a 50 percent chance that you'll be depressed again at some point in your life.

One reason that treatment for depression is inadequate is that many people do not know or are confused about where to seek mental health treatment. Another reason is that many individuals do not perceive depression as a real medical condition that should or can be treated. Also, there is still a social stigma attached to mental illnesses like depression. These perceptions are wrong. Depression is a potentially life-threatening disorder and a woman does not have to "just live with it."

Women experience depression about twice as often as men. Many hormonal factors may contribute to the increased rate of depression in women particularly such factors as menstrual cycle changes, pregnancy, miscarriage, postpartum period, pre-menopause, and menopause. Many women also face additional stresses such as responsibilities both at work and home, single parenthood, and caring for children and for aging parents.

Although men are less likely to suffer from depression than women, 6 million men in the United States are affected by the illness. Men are less likely to admit to depression, and doctors are less likely to suspect it. The rate of suicide in men is four times that of women, though more women attempt it. In fact, after age 70, the rate of men's suicide rises, reaching a peak after age 85.

Desire:The Fuel for Success

 by sharon eiffel
Photo: eso-garden.com

Desire and our ability to want is often the primary reason we achieve our dreams. Take for instance, Abraham, who wanted a child so badly that he had the strength to believe in the promise of God and move forward, despite his age, until he had that child he so strongly desired.

Desire gives us the power to resolve problems and overcome the obstacles that block our path. The intensity of our desire, stemming from our faith, determines how actively we work towards our goals and dreams. The things that you truly want and vigorously care about are the fuel that you need to make things happen. Even when the outlook is grim and it seems to many that there is no hope, if you believe in your heart that it can be and you hold on to your unwavering desire then anything is possible.

A solid and intense want, a steadfast desire, is the foundation for achievement. Desire is the beginning of everything that is, was, and will be. Without a true desire, all of our dreams and hopes are nothing but wishes. Wishes are mere fantasy, without the power to be more. A dreamer who lacks desire will never be more than a dreamer. Those who don’t understand the power of the mind typically limit themselves to the simple things they can see, touch, and hear, and cast off their hopes and dreams as nothing more than a fairy tale.

A person who wholeheartedly believes in their dreams and passionately wants the ideas they imagine, on the other hand, is consistently moving closer and closer to their goal. Desire is a fervent motivator that relentlessly drives you forward, overcoming any hindrances without thinking, until your dream is a reality.

With a strong desire, you can bring about changes others never thought possible, you can make a difference in the world, and you can live your dream. Believe in yourself and have faith in your abilities. Know that you can do anything and don’t limit your true potential with barriers of doubtfulness.

Use this knowledge in your own life to reach your goals. Focus on your dreams and keep your desire consistently strong. Most importantly, believe in yourself and believe in your dreams. This simple way of thinking can accomplish anything.

Anxiety And Depression: Understanding The Causes And Possible Remedies

 by alien82

Photo: steadyhealth.com

There is nothing really wrong with anxiety and depression when they do not interfere in a person’s everyday lives. Anxiety by itself may help spur a person in facing an upcoming task and depression may result in slowing down a person and thereby offer one time to pause and reflect.

Only Acute Bouts of Anxiety and Depression Need to be Worried About

The words anxiety and depression are used to describe moods which the average person is familiar with. The problem arises when the anxiety or depression appears out of the blue, does not go away for weeks on end and there is no relief as it interferes with normal daily functioning. In such cases, one may safely assume that the person is suffering from anxiety and depression that is out of the ordinary and needs to be treated through medical intervention. Anxiety and depression are forms of mental illness which, thankfully can be treated.

A person suffering from anxiety disorders will show signs of shakiness, have muscle aches, sweating, hands become cold and clammy, dizziness, very fast heart beat as well as dryness of the mouth. They will also be emotionally irritable and apprehensive, having dark feelings of bad things about to occur. On the other hand, depression is more common and may have occurred in at least 25 per cent of women and ten per cent of men at some point of time in their lives even though often, it is hard to recognize it.

Theories abound about what causes anxiety and depression as these may be caused by physical and environmental triggers that together give rise to anxiety and depression in some people. Anxiety and depression are illnesses for which successful treatments are available - using a mixture of psychotherapy as well as medication often helps. Anti-anxiety medications and anti-depressants as well as other medications are aimed at alleviating anxiety and depression and these are available through physicians. Depression may also be treated through electroconvulsive therapy.

Anxiety and depression together, cause a person to feel lonely and frightened and may trigger thoughts of suicide, which is especially prevalent in depressed people. For treating anxiety and depression one can try out a number of remedies such as prescription drugs, herbal alternatives, dietary supplements, visualization therapy as well as cognitive behavior therapy. There are also people who feel very strongly that anxiety and depression may be treated effectively without taking recourse to prescription drugs. The bottom line regarding what causes anxiety and depression is that it results from a chemical imbalance that exists in a person’s brain.

Problems arises when the anxiety or depression appears

 by alien82

Problems arises when the anxiety or depression appears out of the blue, does not go away for weeks on end and there is no relief as it consistently interferes with your normal daily routine. In these cases, you can reasonably assume that the cause is anxiety and depression that is out of the ordinary and needs to be treated medically. Anxiety and depression are forms of mental illness, which, thankfully can be treated. Stress in an emotional response to a circumstance or situation, such as job stress, or pressure stress. There are treatments, anxiety management and stress reduction therapies widely available and there is no reason to suffer needlessly nowadays.

Stress and Anxiety are Emotional and Mental

Stress is a condition which may arise from a situation or thought that makes a person frustrated, angry or anxious and what may be stressful to one person need not be stressful for another. On the other hand, anxiety is when a person feels apprehensive or fearful and the source of this uneasiness may not always be known or recognized and so contributes further to the distress felt by the patient. Therefore stress and anxiety are not one and the same and are caused and treated differently. Anxiety disorders are an aggregate of psychiatric conditions that cause the person to feel excessive anxiety.

On the other hand, stress may be caused by emotional instability such as too much grief and depressive thoughts and may also be a result of overactive thyroids, low blood sugar or even heart attacks. No matter what, stress and anxiety need to be properly addressed and finding the source of the stress or anxiety should be paramount in the minds of those treating such disorders. This may not always be possible though one may make a small beginning by charting out the things one thinks is causing a person to be stressed out.

Stress and Anxiety Causes and Triggers

Once the possible source of stress and anxiety has been identified, one should then find someone trustworthy enough to whom one can pour out one’s feelings and thoughts. Many a time, talking about such matters may help relieve the stress and anxiety and there are also communities that have support groups and hotlines to help out. One should also live a healthy life and eat a well balanced diet without overeating. In addition, the need to get enough sleep cannot be overemphasized and exercising regularly will surely help alleviate stress and anxiety. One should use little alcohol and caffeine and also not use nicotine, cocaine or any of the other recreational drugs.

In case a person feels crushing chest pain accompanied with shortness of breath, dizziness or sweating one should immediately call 911. Also, go to the doctor at once if you have thoughts of committing suicide or bouts of dizziness, quickened breathing or a heartbeat that begins to race. One may get in touch with a health care provider when one is unable to work of function normally or one becomes aware of the source of feeling stress and anxiety.

How to Look at Problems

 By Kevin Pinga

Photo: ultimatemillionairemind.com

In life, we are bound to encounter problems at home, in school or in the community. People have their own ways of looking at and solving their problems. Some may avoid thinking about them especially if the problems are trivial. On the other hand, there have been cases of people attempting suicide because of the seriousness of their problems. I shall share with you some ideas on how to look at problems and how to solve some problems effectively.
Firstly, we have to sit down and reflect upon the root cause of the problem. This can be done via reflection on paper. You may realize that the root cause of the problem could have taken place some time ago. This root cause has triggered the sub problems you are facing now. For example, a family problem could be the root cause for a child's misbehavior in class such as disturbing friends, playing truant, stealing money and so forth. If we were to solve the student's class problems we will not be addressing the real issue which may persist for a long time.
Secondly, we have to discuss the problem with people whom we trust. No man is an island. Similarly, when we talk to our confidantes and share our views we know that we are not alone in solving whatever problems we may have. Sometimes, we may find it difficult discussing issue with your parents. This is where the school counselors come in. as they are trained and sworn to secrecy, you can count on them for positive and practical advice and help. Through personal experience, I have walked out of my school counselor's room feeling lighter and more positive.
Thirdly, we have to train ourselves to be mentally strong. This simply means we have to look at the positive side of things. Every cloud has a silver lining. Similarly, we have to view a problem as a learning process and not as a stumbling block. History has shown us great characters like Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela are revered until today for what they made out their problems to achieve their country's dreams. The point is to never give up and to think of our failures as a guide to success.
In conclusion, there are many ways to look at to and to solve a problem. Problems are here to stay and the important things are to select a method that works effectively for you to solve any of your problems.

Mindfulness: The Fruits of Awareness

 By Justine Crowley

Photo: dhammawheel.com

As the mind wanders so does the breath. In order to access more inner peace, joy, happiness and abundance in your life you need to keep a still, calm and quiet mind as much as possible. Easier said than done, I know. I have been there, and at times, especially when we feel so tired, listless and deflated that nasty inner voice; that internal dialogue starts to take charge and rent your precious mind for free. Perhaps your a creature of habit, or sincerely don't want to commit to meditation crossed legged on the floor too much, or chanting spiritual mantras to connect to your core being, and that is okay. An alternative will be presented to you shortly. Brace yourself for some positive, constructive and meaningful change to help you access resources to help you become more connected to your soul purpose - to the abundant and prosperous land.
The activity I am about to suggest does not cost the earth; in fact it does not cost a single dime except for any relevant travel costs to do this. And you will be able to lift your life force energy so the law of attraction begins to work in your favour.
Go for a leisurely stroll in a local park, or go for a walk in the country and rather than using nature as a backdrop to your thoughts: I invite you to focus on every living thing (yes animals and fellow human beings) you see. Once you do this, a sense of peace and calm will begin to emanate your being designed to turbocharge your abundance and prosperity. These non-human animals are also God's creatures like we are, and thus deserve your respect and attention; and as you focus on such animals your mindfulness state is alive on them. If any preoccupied thoughts come to the fore (your ego always wants to remain in charge, and this is something we all have) all you have to say is "thanks for sharing" and go back to focusing on all living things you see. Just for a few moments, and then return to now.

Motivate Your Motivation

by originalvision56

Photo: self-helpmotivation.com

This week you finally did it. You brought the gym bag out of storage and joined a spinning class. Or, you finally decided to quit smoking. Or, you bought that juicer and have vowed to start eating healthy. Whatever the goal is, you finally have what it takes – motivation.

And so you plunge ahead. Until…

Until that point in time when the big motivation train starts losing its steam. When you’re just too tired to go to the gym after work. When you decide “just one” cigarette wouldn’t hurt. When you look at that juicer and that mound of carrots and kale and decide it’s easier just to have a glass of milk

If only you had it like the good old days. You remember the good old days, don’t you? The days good old Mom used to nag you to do your homework, nag you to write your term paper, nag you to go to soccer practice, nag you to stop biting your nails. Ah, Mom, the original Life Coach.

You now find yourself faced with two options – give up like you’ve done so many times in the past, or give your motivation a kick in the butt with the “Magic 30 Minutes.”

Don’t let the name fool you. The “Magic 30 Minutes” doesn’t require you to purchase either a rabbit or a hat. Although it’s so simple you’ll feel like you’ve pulled a rabbit out of a hat. The “Magic 30 Minutes” is that 30-minute period between waking and falling asleep, where your mind begins to shift from a waking state, through a light trance state, to a sleeping state. That’s right; you actually go into a light state of hypnosis before going to sleep.

Used effectively, such as reading a pleasant story to children before they sleep, the mind is filled with positive images, which helps promote positive thinking. And, since you’re already in a light state of hypnosis, your subconscious is most suggestible to positive and negative suggestions. Unfortunately, most people use the “Magic 30 Minutes” ineffectively, watching the news before retiring, thus filling their minds with crime, tragedy and fear - very negative suggestions indeed.

So, how can the “Magic 30 Minutes” help motivate your motivation? Simple. Thirty minutes before falling asleep write out positive affirmations to yourself about whatever goal you’d like to achieve, such as “I love my body and will treat it well, like going to the gym or drinking a glass of fresh vegetable juice.” Repeating one’s positive affirmations are good, but since the act of writing involves using many different senses – touch, sight, thought – writing out your affirmations sends an even stronger message to the subconscious, resulting in quicker positive changes.

Utilizing the “Magic 30 Minutes” can work with motivation for any goal, can boost confidence and self-esteem (“every day in every way my confidence grows”), and can even be used to attract prosperity to one’s life (“I am open and receptive to a more prosperous life”). You have no more excuses. Just five minutes of writing affirmations before going to bed can change your life.

Of course, if you’d prefer to move back in with Mom… I didn’t think so.

Finding the right depression medication

 by free.article

Photo: ehow.com

Always feeling under the weather? Always not in the mood to be around others and have a good time? If you’re suffering from prolonged sadness for quite some time now, you should face these bouts of depression and get yourself diagnosed by a psychiatrist, they’re doctors who can actually help you out with your problem. Not to mention the various depression treatments, as well as all sorts of depression medication that doctors prescribe to their depression patients.

Fortunately depression can now be cured, especially when diagnosed early, depressed individuals can actually be treated through therapy and depression medication, although it may be a bit costly, a person’s good mental health is something that shouldn’t be scrimped on. Cognitive behavioral talk or interpersonal talk are incredibly healthy depression treatments that are just some of the available psychosocial depression treatments that cognitive behavior therapists can offer to their patients, both actually prove to be able to produce fruitful and positive results even for just short-term sessions, around ten to twenty weeks are almost always, already enough to get a depression patient slowly begin their recovery towards a sound mental health.

Before getting started with depression medication, the depression patient must first get him or herself to a reputable doctor, get a diagnosis of which type of depression the patient is actually suffering from, may it be clinical depression, manic depression or what-have-you. It’s best that you’re sure what you’re actually dealing with since there are various depression medications that are available in the market, you should make sure that you get the most appropriate one, the one that’ll actually cure your depression illness.

There’s actually a wide variety of anti-depressant depression medications available to help treat those who are suffering from depressive disorders. The more popular ones are those that are of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs variant then there are the tricyclics while the other popular variant is the monoamine oxidase inhibitors or MAOIs. These depression medications (the SSRIs variant as well as the other newer depression medication available in the market) actually to be a much safer alternative than the tricyclics, since they have fewer side-effects as opposed to the tricyclics depression medication variant.

Sometimes, doctors actually find it more effective to mix up these depression medications, depending on the needs of the individual, the doctor might actually prescribed a variety of depression medication to help cure one’s depression illness. Also the dosages of depression medication can actually be increased or lowered depending on what the doctor finds to be the most effective. However, when it comes to taking these depression medications, patients are highly advised to never mix up depression medications as well as pick out which dosages to take without consulting their doctors first.

Anti-anxiety or sedatives however, should never be mistaken as depression medication. Even though these anti-anxiety drugs are often prescribed along with depression medication, they don’t actually help cure one’s depression illness. Their mere purpose is to help calm one’s nerves which is why depression medications are still needed to be taken by the depression patient.

There are actually some common side-effects from depression medication, usually coming from the tricyclic variety. Some people tend to not mind these side-effects from depression medication, however if it does become to much of a bother and may end up ruining one’s ability to function properly, it’s best to go immediately to your doctor and report the side-effects. Quite common side-effects from depression medication are the following:

Dry mouth: always having the irritating feeling of being hydrated, it’s best to always have some (clean, drinking) water nearby so as to have something to drink whenever dry mouth occurs, chewing sugar free gum as well as brushing your teeth after every meal is also a good idea.

Constipation: cure such discomfort by eating and taking in a lot of fiber to help aid your digestion.

Blurry vision: another temporary side-effect, this one’s quite easy to pass but if it proves to be too much of a bother, consult your doctor immediately.

Headaches: quite common with the newer kinds of depression medication, it’s really not a big deal and will actually go away easily.

Insomnia: first-time users may actually experience this depression medication side-effect but it usually just happens during the first few weeks of taking the depression medication, asking your doctor to lower the dosage of the depression medication may actually help you with this side-effect, as well as the time of day wherein you take your depression medication can actually have something to do with your sleeping problem.

Boost Your Skills With a Few Quick Tips To Increase Your Memory

 By Timothy C. Collins

Photo: howtoincreasememorypower.com

Of all the faculties of the human mind, that of memory is the first that suffers decay from age. Memory declines with age, but we all want to remember where we placed our keys well into our golden years. Having a weak memory leads to a terrible feeling of helplessness, whether in a student, an executive or a senior citizen.
Our brain is, after all, our greatest natural resource. Just as we need to feed the body and exercise it for it to reach its true potential, so too do we need to increase our memory so that it serves us well. Good mental fitness can improve our memory, creativity, thinking skill, imagination, awareness, and analytical skills. As your mental power develops, the inter connectivity of your brain cells improves. It won't take a long time to see the progress of your mental performance, so it's worth investing in developing your mind power.
Tell yourself to remember. When you first learn a person's name, for example, tell yourself, "remember that". This signals your unconscious mind to rank this input higher in importance.
Know why you want to remember something. For example, to remember a person, think about how that person will be important to you in the future. If you want to remember fact about something, think about how you'll will need them someday.
Visualize the future. Imagine where you'll see a person next, and anything you notice about them. Use this with the last technique. The additional associations will set the memory more firmly in your brain.
Retrace your steps. When you forget something, like where you put your keys, you probably retrace your steps. This works, but try it in your mind, as if you were watching yourself from a distance. This can help keep you from blanking out parts of your route, as you did when you first set the keys down.
Imagination is a good tool to help increase your memory. Imagination should involve various senses, not just visualization alone. You train yourself to create mental reality with vivid picture, realistic sound, touch, taste, and smell.
Another technique is breaking down information. Our brain can remember information better with certain kind of stimulation. It remembers emotional stories much better than scientific facts and boring statistics.
Most of the time, we don't forget something, we just fail to recall it. We usually let our subconscious mind do all the learning work. We need to get our conscious mind to exercise a bit by increasing our awareness. We can increase our awareness of daily activities through retrospection. This awareness-increasing exercise trains you to recall things well. As we improve, we can go further on until we can recall events in many days.
Finally, the last trick to increase your memory and enhance recalling ability is to have a habit of repeating what we have learned. Try to mentally summarize some information that you have just read. By doing so, you screen through the reading material 3 times. You can recall repeated information better than things that you read only once.
You can increase our memory power reading aloud, writing on a paper repeatedly, and then reading it loud in your mind. Watch once impossible tasks become easier and your self-confidence grow with your enhanced memory.
If you are looking for ways to Increase Memory, then spare a few minutes and read about these two highly effective mental training programs.

Setting Your Criteria for Personal Success

 By Justine Simard

Photo: justinesimard.com

Even though I'm a strong believer that success should be seen as a journey rather than a final outcome, all of us have goals which are determined by our own definition of success, and success itself is usually defined in terms of things that must be achieved. All of us use different standards when defining success.
Here is a question: Why do we set the bar high or low when we decide on our goals and what we are going to believe as a success? And I don't mean high or low in comparison to other people here, because everyone has their personal system of reference when it comes to standards in personal achievement. Rather, why don't we always set goals to our own personal best standard? Why is our criteria of success not always determined by our ultimate potential or our ambitions and most meaningful dreams, our greatest competencies, our highest standards? Why don't we always aim for the absolute best outcomes with reference to our own definition of success or absolute potential?
As we define success for ourselves, around any specific goal or outcome, we now have an alternative between big success and small success. The route to success for each of those options might be quite different as each success or goal represents several challenges. These might be real or just perceived, so we may consider that attaining massive success calls for massive struggle. In my illustration, see that the big mountain represents big success with bigger challenges, and that the small mountain symbolizes a smaller success that is likely to be more convenient to achieve.
When we set our goals, there are several beliefs (conscious or unconscious) affecting how high we set the bar. There are various factors which might have an effect on our standards for personal success and how we set our goals. Here are the key ones:
Fear of Failure or Fear of Success
Fear is known for having paralyzing effect in itself, but when we nurture the assumption that we can fail at something, or that we're not skilled or deserving to achieve success, it gets very tempting to stop pursuing it, or to change the goal so that we are able to diminishes that fear. If you didn't have fear of success or fear of failure, if you chose you could have the ability to succeed at your highest objectives, and if you were confident that you either have what it requires or will get what it takes to succeed, if you believed that you could achieve success, and really deserve to be successful at your highest standard, how different would your goals be?
Faith and Expectation
Once we set goals and we define success for ourselves, we're very more likely to set goals that we expect to achieve. Why set goals that we assume we won't achieve? This really affects how we carry ourselves in the process, in the way we take action, and how we impact on our environment. Faith has a significant effect on perseverance, tenacity, patience and determination. Expectation is so powerful as it opens us to receive, and it also causes us to conduct ourselves as if we've already received what we want! And when you enter a situation or a challenge with that attitude, then you are already half way there! So developing faith and expecting success will give rise to your thoughts, behaviors, feelings and the universe to align to bring about that success.
Limiting Beliefs
Limiting beliefs are beliefs, conscious or unconscious, that conflict with our goals and dreams. They may inhibit us from reaching our goals due to the discrepancy between what we want to realise, and what we think we can achieve, what we believe we deserve to have, or what we expect we are able to achieve. There may also be a conflict with our goals and our own integrity or values. The important thing here is to review your goals and discover whether you've any beliefs that conflict with your ethics or your expectation of success. So ask yourself whether you might have lowered your standards for success or made your goals smaller to avoid that conflict and stay in line with your limiting beliefs.
Realism
All of us have been told or have thought to ourselves that we were unrealistic about some of our goals and dreams. Whenever you adjust your goal to what is actually realistically possible determined by your own resources and attributes, and not according to your past achievements or what your limiting beliefs or others are telling you, then that goal can be set a lot higher. When we're trying to be realistic, it's not always real, since the reality of what's possible and what we can attain might be better than we and others think, realistically!
Integrity, Desire and Purpose
We every now and then set goals that are not consistent with our real desires, our sense of purpose and our integrity. For instance, we could say we want to be rich, but deep down it may not be what really motivates us. So it's really important when we set our targets to match them to our own genuine self, to our most important and meaningful desires, to our greater sense of purpose, and to our own personal mission. Because as I've discussed earlier, when there's a conflict between our goals and our values, we are unlikely to really pursue that goal and succeed at achieving it.
Response to Challenges
A challenge can be received as two things: an opportunity for growth, or an obstacle. And depending on the mindset that we adopt before going into the challenge, we will either embrace the process or feel frustrated and held back. And when we set our goals, we assess what will be required for us to realise that goal. When facing challenges, you may believe that the obstacle or challenge is not worth taking up, or is too daunting. And that mindset may cause you to choose the smaller mountain. And at times, just because of our mindset, we miscalculate challenges. We see the mountain bigger than it actually is. And we also dismiss the fact that if we start climbing it, there may just be some things that happen along the way that help us reach the top. Consequently, we might make choices that take away some opportunities.
Everyone has 2 mountains. This is not 2 mountains for two separate groups of people. When you look at your 2 mountains, the amount of success you desire for yourself in relation to your own personal aspirations and dreams, and your individual abilities - and when you assess the challenges - which mountain will you choose?
Success really is a process and not just an end result. So once you've decided on your mountain to climb and on what you anticipate finding when you reach to top - even though you don't know the path and the challenges you'll encounter on the way - then enjoying the process and embracing what it throws at you is a goal in itself, because you know that you're moving forward in the direction of your most meaningful and ambitious goals.
